2 years ago, I became brave enough to try a caveman sear. It turned out fabulous. Today a caveman sear over Eucalyptus is the only way that I’ll do it.
I'm a rare to medium rare kinda guy, my wife likes it medium. Meater temp to 120, then get the egg up to 650, spray some avocado oil on the grill to get some flames going. 30 to 45 seconds for gets my steak to about 135-138 and about a minute gets my wife's steak to 140-142. I find the using the avocado oil gets the flame and char just right. I am going to have to try the caveman version, that is the only way I haven't tried to do a steak yet. Thank Capt for the refresher.
Great video Ron. I prefer my steak medium rare; my wife wants her steak rare. I like using my torch to sear when I grill steaks. Was nice meeting you yesterday at the Sunnyland Egg Fest in Dallas. Your rib eyes were superb! 👍👍👍
@@FOGOcharcoal The event was a lot of fun. Have you done a video using a rotisserie on the BGE? If you have, I haven't been able to find. I'd sure like to see your spin on that.
Honestly best way to cook a steak is sous vide. Depending on how u like it 2 hours at 125-140 then sear. For added flavor try lava salt, it will add that charcoal like flavor during the water bath.
@@FOGOcharcoaltry adding lava salt. I do agree ur method adds something but if I was to go all out. I’ll smoke it for 20-30min at the lowest temp, sous vide then fish’s by searing.
You are awesome to watch
Well thanks Tina, so are you!
Muy sabroso esos bistec. Maravilloso y muy alegre 😮😮😮
Yo tengo hambre.....
Reverse sear is the only way I make steak anymore. So good!!!!!!
It is a definite game changer!
Such a fun and delicious video to make! Thanks for tuning in everyone!
We agree, we think you should do it again for us every day this week.....
SinSEARlously good
I see what you did there......and I like it!!!
Great looking steaks. I got to do the caveman sear! I love my meat all medium rare.
Good choice! Don't fear the caveman!
Did you sear it right after cooking? Did you let the steak cool off completely?
I never let oit cool off completely. It'll never be the same as when cooked fresh.
medium, and thats the way I like "non steak snob here"
You do you Steve! I don't mind me a medium steak either
Don't drop the Caveman style steak on the ground by accident......🤣🤣🤣
LOL!!!! Hmmmm, someone has a good memory!
I like my steaks medium to medium rare. Definitely pink with no red.
EGGZACTLY how I like mine too!

I will keep an eye out for my invite....
Looks delic. Take care.
Thank you, you too!
We are definitely rare to medium rare. My favorite way to sear is directly over charcoal!
I like your style Captain!
Can't wait to try a caveman sear...won't tell the family until after they eat it
Probably a wise decision....
Like the tip regarding seasoning, I have never tried caveman style, always thought it would have ash all over the meat
Nah, you may get a flake or two but f you use really hot charcoal, it won't be an issue.
You didn’t talk sear temperature!
HOT! I don't go by temperature when searing. Just get it hot hot hot
Now I’m hungry
That is the best compliment there is!
On the egg I actually sear 1” above the coals
A great way to do it. Did you know you can turn the eggspander basket upside down to get the grate close to the coals?
That’s exactly what I do.
YES!
Steakalicious!
Another good educational video. Those steaks have a sear your father would be proud of!
Thank you John, you know how much that means to me.

Sounds like a perfect method!
I like getting the bge cast iron plate up to 700-800 and sear with a sear sauce. Perfection.
I love it! Very similar to the carbon steel pan option
next steak? I will try the reverse sear thanks Ron....
Game changer! You’ll never go back

Right on, great to meat you too! I am so glad you liked that steak. We had a blast!!!

Great job in nailing great sears on all of them Ron..
Thanks Jay, it was a good day!

That is a great way to do it but we really prefer the flavor from roasting them over charcoal. No doubt that SV can make for a fantastic steak though.

Nice tips Ron!
Awwww. yer just sayin' that Steve......
