      Jason Parker If you’re familiar with John Bannon’s Play It Straight Triumph it’s still the same trick. His allowing the spectator was o shuffle the packers has zero bearing on the method but adds a layer of fairness. Plus the Japanese mafia part of not having the spectator see the card is a different touch but methodically its identical. I love performing this version of triumph. Always kills. No pun intended.
      I also think if he doesn’t step his presentation up Eric Chien is a better magician. Next to Shin Lim, Eric is just about as good as there is at making movements LOOK like magic

    • @davidk7441
      @davidk7441 2 года назад +1

      Yeah David started his annoyance by asking if the main seat was his, then wasn’t happy when he was sidelined, saying that Takumi cannot play piano as good as him…
      This is a show by Takumi not sure why it looks like a fight of dominance by David 😂 some people have too much animal instincts in their genes.
      Still in the cavemen stage, totally behind in the evolutionary ladder

    Step 1: Have all the clubs in one packet in numerical order.
    Step 2: Force a choice on one of the clubs - it doesn't matter which one.
    Step 3: make sure the packet of clubs is at one end of the deck (see 4:09)
    Step 4: Have the assistant shuffle but keep flipping the deck so that it is always the clubs facing the wrong way.
    Step 5: Shuffle full deck for effect (this doesn't matter).
    Step 6: Reveal cards.

    • @akmadsen
      @akmadsen Год назад

      Yup, this is the way. I know I've seen it performed by a few other people before where the magician shuffled the cards himself. The flipping of the deck (in step 4) while shuffling makes the method really obvious, IMO. Or maybe I just saw it performed poorly the first time and now I can't unsee it.
      I'm more into Takumi's take on the stuff he learned from Lennart Green, which I'm guessing is what he did for his first appearance.

  • @jeffclassics
    @jeffclassics 5 лет назад +6

    Have you watched a video of him in Shin lim's Channel? From there, a quote from Lennart Green himself saying he has surpassed his skills. He might be the best student of Lennart.

    this not a deck switch, first you must know that the 7 of clubs is a forced card ,as you can see ,at 4:08 the clubs are already in order behind that king of clubs, he didn't spread that part because he try to hide it, then he use triumph effect to let david shuffle, David just put the club face down and the other random card face up, that's why no matter how david shuffle ,he just move the card order but no the face ,then the six pile at 5:48 is just a false cut, he arrange the card in six pile then memorize it, then take it back in order. What really amazing is, he can manage to keep the clubs in order after doing the first trick

    That Maffia style as a performance image is appealing to people I find hard to understand. Besides that Takumi is an impressive hand-artist. How he did his dissappearing and returning tricks in the beginning is fabulously good. I agree with Jason and the judges who said that the slowness was a pity. The trick had too much talk this time. To me it felt that Takumi was less focused, almost as if at moments he had to remind himself what was coming next. Still he reacted well to David's fumbling and rumbling.

    The setup at 4 minutes to get the shuffle to have a good look at 4 sections of the deck really quickly was genius and for thinking on his feet if this is a real story. But in smaller chunks as they shuffle up and down and he flips the deck a few times as he fans the cards out and finds the missing card. But how he puts the cards back in order in suit is beyond me. But I feel like there might have been a deck switch at some point before this and the rest is a show. I think you nailed it at 6:50. another great trick.

    There is a forced card of any club.
    The method of deck card manipulation and return
    all the cards of one suit can be found on you tube.
    Takumi does not need to know which club which is the
    is shown missing from all the rearranged clubs spreader out.
    This trick can be shown how it is explained in a you tube.
    Culling is the name of the method used.

    I want to give my taught, he should do a few of tricks. Even though his skills amazing, I worried the voters will getting bored (this is not magician competition) with the way he present. Probably he should less talk and just focus to show his skills with a music.
    Anyway, he is the one my favourite contestants in this show.

    • @ddonlee
      @ddonlee 5 лет назад +2

      Agree. I like him alot and he has mad skills. But his talking takes away his mystical persona. I get it that he needs to explain the story progression but English is not his first language so that puts him in a disadvantage. Maybe in Japanese, the communication will be more charismatic and powerful. Part ofShin Lims appeal was his charisma, commumication skills and boyish wizard appeal with great music.

    • @wishyouwerehere1982
      @wishyouwerehere1982 5 лет назад

      @@ddonlee choose the right music, talk if really needs to explain (probably good if can memorise it) , and with his amazing skills... I believe the voters will love him.

    I think time is essential part for this trick.. Judges said the trick was a bit slow and Takumi agreed. Could this be part of the trick? Takumi gave the cards to David and asked him to shuffle them half face up and half face down. David took his time.. and so Takumi did counting the cards that were visible at that point. He flipped them a few times before passing them to David and after he got them back from him. So I guess the time varies depending on how fast Takumi can count the cards each time. (Or I don't know what I am talking about..)

  • @leifbennysvendsen9021
    @leifbennysvendsen9021 5 лет назад

    He did not ring in the cooler. At 4.09 he sow the cards. It seams mixed up, but the clubs are in a pile at top, at order. Then he looked at the card, to make the first cut at the right place, to have all clubs in the first place. When David, shuffel, he realy just mixed in the outher cards, facing the outher way, but never change the order betwin the clubs, and only the clubs are facing oposite of the outher.

    Play the video in slow motion you will see that he extend his right hand fingers after "placing" the card on the stack and moving his left hand back with his little finger bent in an unusual manner. Also when he drops more than 2 cards at a time except the last one , and there is the little finger again.On the second trick place it in slow motion and you will notice that he sort of manipulate (looking for a marked card?) the card to be chosen in a very smooth way. After that the show starts.

    I think the “finger snap” would have been better if he said he went for the magical snap, but the Yakuza guy grabbed his hand and snapped his fingers for him, as a warning if he screws up.
    Cause the story was interesting, but i think he drifted away from the story as he neared the end and the audience disconnected. Maybe he meant to say that, but since Davis was being difficult, he might have forgot in the moment.

    That guy has to be, like i am, a big fan of Lennart Green. Some points of his presentation are very similar to Lennart's one. Lennart break his wrist on stage...That guy break his finger... Snap deal is on public domain for who wants to vanish card with or without laser...LOL...Buy the book or PDF...The routine is a classical, with introduction of that brilliant sleight of hand invented by the swedish doctor...I've been lucky enough in my life to assist a lecture of Lennart Green, who is funny on stage, but also a very nice guy who shared a lot of his knowledge to the amateur magicians we were. I'm not surprised that Takumi Takahashi wants to emulate this great magician. Best of, he doesn't want to copy. Definitely I liked the performance, even if I wasn't fooled. Magic is all about we see, not about how is done. Nice review Jason. Like so much your channel

    I agree the reveal took a bit long, but I dislike that the judges just wanted fast, flashy tricks. The story setup was a big part of the effect of this act...I appreciated it quite a bit, it felt like a cool segment from a longer act. I think if the reveal happened faster and had a bit more oomph, then the "slow" complaints wouldn't have been a thing.

    Does anyone know the name of this effect?

      The Ace thing at the beginning is a L. Green thing. The main effect is John Bannon's "Bannon Triumph" or "Play it Straight Triumph".

      @@TalesFromTyranus thanks. I asked Dan harlan a month ago and he too said its a John Bannon trick. I thaught it was from Simon Aronson but it isnt. In Best Friends vol.1 from Harry Lorayne a similiar trick is mentioned. But thanks anyway. I love magic. Have a nice day.
