    Thank God for this, I literally was just thinking about how I haven't touched zbrush in so long. This helps a lot and zbrush UI is always confusing the first time you get back to it

      Me too. Already surfed flippednormals.com. so rare with these highest level vfx artists who r also great teachers - a rarity indeed. Havent touched z brush in 1 year, will get back to it. Problem with z brush is price, but i will get 2x30 days try version...

    I have a UI tip to share. See how in the subtool palette the subtool names are on a black background, and the active subtool is on a marginally blacker background, so marginally it may as well be the same black? Kinda dumb I think. So if you go into preferences>icolors the black background of the active subtool is controlled by icon shadow. Change it to another color, anything but black, I have mine green, and now when you glance over at the subtool list, you can see instantly which one is active.

    Thank you for this. As I can see is a common issue cause I haven't been able to use Zbrush for a couple of months already since my computer was kept by my ex in the divorce and I haven't been able to get one yet. I was thinking of having to start all over again watching tutorials which worried me a little bit cause I feel like I forgot pretty much everything, but this video will save me a lot of hours. Thanks again and I love all your videos!

    Hi Henning! Thanks for the video. It was a quick refresh!! Regarding the displacement, '32bit' and 'exr' doesn't work when 'Merge' option is ON.

    I would really appreciate a video talking about common zbrush problems in terms of usability. For example, I was getting rid of a chunk of my model and it left stubborn creases that won't go away. I can't find anywhere how to fix this!

    Zbrush - the only application that is hostile to the gui interactions of every other program. When you get fluent in several programs you depend on muscle memory for navigation and hope that they all can be set up to work in a mostly similar manner. All except Zbrush.
    It is a necessary tool in production but that doesn't mean its coders respect the users. I have used it for about 15 years, owned it for 10 and use it almost daily. Doesn't mean I admire the way they do things.
    Thanks for this, however. There is always something to learn.

    Thanks for the video! I just got your guys' intro to zbrush from your website. Do you think I'd be able to do that tutorial with zbrush core or is standard zbrush necessary?

    • @FlippedNormals
      @FlippedNormals  4 года назад +1

      Thanks!
      You can probably do around half of the Intro series using Core. You can do everything to do with the sculpting tools, but when it comes to more advanced and pipeline features it falls short.

    I've been using zbrush for about a month. I've become good at it thanks to your zbrush videos. The thing that I'm struggling with right now is how to sculpt certain area. For example, how to add the mouth cavity.
    Just one simple question. When I'm sculpting, to get the proportions right I sculpt the skull separately first, then append a sphere on top to sculpt muscle and skin. Do you consider this workflow a waste of time?? Should I practice sculpt the face without sculpting the skull first?
    Sometime I thinks it's a time consuming, but sometime I think that over time I would have bunch of skulls sculpted that I can use for future projects

    • @FlippedNormals
      @FlippedNormals  4 года назад

      Thats awesome to hear! Thanks :D
      That workflow sounds really good for learning. Its not great if you want to produce work quickly for a portoflio but when learning youre now forced to really think about each step.

    • @AkhilSaluruVlogs
      @AkhilSaluruVlogs 4 года назад

      I think you don't need to sculpt the skull

    In one of your videos, you talked about saving as a project vs saving as a tool. One you of said you preferred saving as a tool but then stated you would explain later. I think it was the intro to zbrush video but can you elaborate on this or tell me what video you elaborate on it?

    • @cperiodj9696

      I think you answer it in this video

    *Facepalm* I've been trying ZBRush on and off for almost a year now and I did not realize the UndoHistory save, I literally had files I'd given up on cus I had too many subtools and I got tired of deleting save history.

    ZBrush has probably the worst User Interface/Experience i have ever seen. Some aspects of it are so bad it’s almost insulting. It‘s unmatched toolset is the only thing that keeps it up. The moment another sculpting tool catches up in terms of functionality i think they are going to be in deep trouble to keep their customers.

    • @FlippedNormals
      @FlippedNormals  4 года назад +2

      100% agree

    • @thomasbriggs4718
      @thomasbriggs4718 4 года назад +1

      Absolutely right. Not only insulting but hostile. Ever try reporting a bug to them? I was condescendingly told I was wrong and inexperienced. At that point I had been working in international production for about as long as the guy at Zbrush had been toilet trained. It took several tries to make them see and accept that there was a real bug to be fixed.

      To respond as someone who partially agrees. As far using a pen with ZBrush the UI is actually very fluid also with Zspheres as long as you snap all of the new Zspheres the base mesh will be ok. Other than that I have to use Maya to start all of my creations.

      This is the reason it's tough to learn and even tougher to retain what you've learned... It's amazing what you can do with it once you have that knowledge though. I mean why oh why is 2.5D the default????????

    Anyone else fed up of brushes causing big stroke steps instead of a seamless clean line? For some reason a lot of my brushes do this.. and the one brush i really wish i could use is the chisel but its just horrible. Lazy mouse and step slider dont do shit, i still see steps or plenty of jagged edges on hi division.. nothing to do. Frustrating...

    • @alteraz1355
      @alteraz1355 4 года назад

      Zbrush is a mess.... changing the size of the brush to a specific size seems to fix the issue but im stuck with one size for that specific brush... and for other brushes the only thing that seems works is increasing the lazy step to remedy steps... logic 101 and a whole bunch of other nonsense settings for the rest of the brushes.. some brushes i try to change 1 small parameter and everything is broken, brush is no longer working as it should.
