Well... I have to say I'm a TON more impressed with zbrush AFTER watching your video. The UI is, as you an many others have said, mind boggling... overly complicated... and someone should be fired. Well, they probably were fired. Then, the next three people that tried to fix it had to be put in an asylum. This is the best intro for people already working in CG - you explained the idiosyncrasies from a CG perspective, which have taken years to discover learning alone! Gonna check out your paid stuff now...
Even 5 years after this video was released it is still so helpful to a new user. The paid tutorial I'm currently going through is great but the instructor talks fast and virtually blows through the UI portion. I find that most paid courses require that you understand the UI already, and I can kind of understand why. It's so dense and confusing and instructors would rather just get to the project. That's what makes this video so valuable. You guys take your time and break this thing thing down for the Noobs, which everyone was at some point. I'll definitely be saving this one. Thanks!

Okay first I want to say thank you! I have been in the game industry for 28 years and always have been a environment artist, props, level design and had done a hand full of characters in the late 90's. At that time the industry so much different, it was about sharing knowledge and not selling 2 or 3 materials made from other materials and selling them for 10.00. Now I am waiting for someone to sell their family members as a bonus pack. I look forward to learning what is new with character modeling, since I'm familiar with a lot of the basics so far on my own, Im assuming this will fill in some blanks I have. And thanks again for this video!!!

With this, you gave me enough power to try, to mistake, to take it all over again and to have patience until I am thankful with my sculpture. First time when I opened ZBrush I thought I broke it because I was just painting lines around but dunno the instructions.
Another thing to consider: while zbrush is fussy, I'm not denying that, the controls are meant to work well with tablets. The clicks and drags are all things that can be done with a tablet and pen. Whether you have an old crummy bamboo tablet (like me), or a newer fancy one that has its own buttons, zbrush as least does not insist upon left clicking or right clicking or middle clicking. It's one click, and a hand on a control/alt/shift key. Any key commands like shift-n can be done with one hand a keyboard while your other is on a tablet pen
great tutorial for beginners. introduces the tools, menus, how to start sculpting, common issues you will run into, shortcuts, etc. Not overwhelming like some books or videos

That was incredibly helpful. Thank you very much. And while i am not even close to that point, based on this experience,i will definitely consider paying for more in depth instruction...but first i think ill spend the requisite time absorbing more basics and practice ,practice, practice. This is an incredibly powerful sculpting tool. Its not magic, its just a tool, and like any tool, the secret to success is time invested.
Please more of these great tricks tutorials especially from starting sculpting a piece to clean model with fine details (even if just part of a face) for those who have a problem getting over that threshold
Some of us new people need an updated beginning stage of these with the 2022 versions. The initial steps getting the light box out of the way and you can't just go from tool to edit mode either in the new versions of zbrush.
While Hotkeys are amazing for speeding up a workflow, I'd argue that a good UI customization is even more important. This will save flipping through many menus finding functions including ones that don't/can't have hotkeys. My highest UI tip is Preferences-Interface-Wide Buttons(turn off, gray out) to make the brush icons much smaller then pull out about a dozen. All menus that are treated like brushes should have at least 2 buttons out to switch between as well including: masking, lassoes, strokes, alphas, colors, textures, and materials.

Pressed CTRL + End probably trillion times until I realized it's CTRL + N. Now I can start watching the rest of the video.
Guys this is the first tutorial I'm watching, you're giving me so much, thanks!
This was super great. I really enjoyed yalls banter together and how much I feel like I absorbed from it. Keep it up guys.
You took the words right outta my mouth.
This is still the best and most humorous tutorial on zbrush! Thank you
I cant thank you guy's enough for making this tutorial ,Really made my life easier with Z brush Thank you :3
Some of us new people need an updated beginning stage of these with the 2022 versions. The initial steps getting the light box out of the way and you can't just go from tool to edit mode either in the new versions of zbrush.
Yeah I'm noticing I'm having trouble getting a tool into edit mode from a saved project. It will bring up the 2.5D mode constant.
This is fantastic! Great tutorial and it certainly wasn't boring. I'm looking forward to checking out your website and getting back into Zbrush.
Awesome, thank you! We have tons of ZBrush training on our YT channel and on flippednormals.com :D
@@FlippedNormals I just purchased your introduction to sculpting from your website last night. I'm very excited to get started!
