You asked for "help" if you're "wrong". Well, I'll just offer this. Ever heard of a tiny little thing called "colonization"?
Yeah. It might have slipped by a few people. But without an intercontinental phone apparatus, broadcasting, air-travel, and many other infrastructural industries and systems, including the advent of the internet, a WHOLE lotta people, globally, didn't know what the h3ll had hit them.
Africans were included in that whole little messy thing. The entire Continent was swept and barbarically crushed by country after country. The people, their treasures, their children, stolen, exploited, exported----destroyed. Borders changed, genocides waged, cities burned to the ground, well, I think you get the idea.
As soon as heroes rose from the decimation, (Patrice Lumumba, Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Toure, Thomas Sankara, Ras Tafari, etc.) amongst their first actions, after fighting for their own localized autonomy & liberation, was offering land to those of us in The Diaspora, forming alliances with some our leaders, and even now, scholars on both sides of the waters are working on projects to reclaim the truth about our histories.
Sorry I didn't have time to go further, but you might want to research the late Dr. Yosef Ben-Yochanan, a CLOSE Ethiopian friend & Brother of AAs, Dr. John Henrike Clark, Dr. Asa Hilliard, and so many more who all have done monumental work together with our global FAMILY, to UNITE us. Not sew seeds of division.
And while you're at it, if it's the last recreational $50.00 you ever spend in your life, I'd recommend you read "When We Ruled", by Robin Walker, for good measure. 👍🏾

I'm surprised some Black folks are unfamiliar that a small portion of Malagasy people were brought to the Americas, specifically the U.S and Peru where they were called Mangaches.
That's because the teaching of the transatlantic slave trade mainly focuses on slaves being taken from west/central Africa. I didn't know until after high school. I've also never heard of "mangaches". Interestingly enough though, I've found out that my maternal line likely comes from Madagascar, based on some results I got from a dna test and extra research I did afterwards.

My family were told we are deseantant of Madagascar thru the slave trade. Some of us have a unique look about us, especially my daughter. She has been asked many times is she from Madagascar.

I am absolutely horrified that the face of American blacks has been hip hop and rap for more than 40 years! It doesn't escape my notice that when we were elegant and dignified, that doesn't mean perfect, but we were far more careful in the way we presented ourselves, people copied us but not to the extent that they have now that we are in full blown depravity mode! We have got to as a collective decide that we want a different representation. It's not just the media because there are tons of tiktokers that are just as ratchet as the day is long and that is both male and female. Yes American media focuses on negative images but the American community also engages in it online and more people are exposed to social mediA.
I’ve seen countless videos just this week alone talking about how undesirable BW in America are by their own men. How many videos talk about Blakistan but when others outside community observe things or make comments on videos they’ve seen it’s hurt feelings.

I've traveled all over the world and I know from personal experience, natives from everywhere admire, look up to and have great respect for US. I bare witness to this. Many of us don't know because we don't travel. I remember I read where less than 3% of Black Americans has a passport. Don't know what that number is today but it speaks volumes. We must travel black people.. of course if we have the money. We are not just African Americans or just Africans.... We are planetary people. Believe it.

When I was in college I met a man at home in Atlanta from madagascar. I promise I'd never knew people actually lived there until we met. He spoke highly of black people in America and it surprised me.

Cool! I used to know a couple of sisters who lived off Eastern Ave in DC near Takoma metro. Perhaps you know them. I mention this because the Malagasy community isn't that big in the DMV compared to other African communities.
Madagascar is a must visit. Last time I check it was way expensive to fly to Antananarivo from Lusaka than flying to Kuala Lumpur or Ho Chi Minh City in Asia. I hope flights there cheapen done so we can go explore. Great video fam! One love from Zambia. 🇿🇲
The demise of the once great Zambia Airways is the reason why it’s expensive to fly from Lusaka to Madagascar. Hope the relaunched Zambia Airways will in the coming years make travel to these places cheaper. For your info, it can be expensive to travel between on Australian state in terms of air fares & accommodation than to travel to Bali in Indonesia for holidays from an Australian state.

Is it wrong for me to feel a tinge of jealousy? How I WISH I had a mother and father who were so deeply moved by the experiences of their ancestors that they wanted to be the change that left a lasting impact in the next generation. Educating not only them self but educating their kids as well. Creating a solid foundation for them to grow and thrive in. Instead all I got was a a dead beat father and an uneducated mother. I’m having to claw my way up out of this situation painstakingly. I’m 34 years old and I’m still struggling. It’s SO DAM hard. I swear and yes I can be the change I wanted to see growing up to my future children. I get that but the road to getting there is unimaginable difficult. Some days I just feel like giving up. I’m not gunna lie. I’m getting teary eyed thinking about it.

I'm reading your post and I like your honesty about your challenges. I've lived a lot longer than you and have experienced many obstacles in my life but never have I felt like a failure. Give yourself credit for who you are and where you are in life today. Talk with the older women and men to get a better perspective of all we have to thru to stay in the game of life. Amazing, just amazing! My name is Naimbai and I have been watching the "unapologetic nomads" for a while now. I lived in the U.S for over 12 years but now I am in the motherland. I stayed in Madagascar for 3 months and came here in Tanzania only three days ago. I was in Antananarivo when the "unapologetic nomads" visited the city. I wish I knew. I could have met them in person. I visited Rova (the palace) and met the Malagasy guy in the video. His name is Toky and we flew from Antananarivo to Adddis Ababa together. I noticed he is an extrovert like me so I approached him. Toky was going to Lusaka, Zambia. He is a super friendly guy. We hanged out at the airport till our flight times. We keep in touch and hope to see each other again. I didn't know he was with this lovely family. The world is big but also small. Maybe one day I will meet the "unapologetic nomads" in person too.

One thing I've can to learn what the main divide is between Africans and African Americans is that there has been alot of disinformation between the two, as a result both are skeptical of the other. Having moved to the USA from Africa, because of some who are misinformed be it at church or at work I was treated poorly, on the other hand, those who were informed and open to Africans treated me like family. This lead me to conclude that the stereotypes about us and whoever decides to tune in into that frequency will side eye the other.
That gap needs to be closed, we may have been born/ raised in different parts of the world but we are a one people and there should be no us vs them.
Yes, because we all face the same prejudices worldwide. I found that out during the George Floyd protests. African people in Europe said they identified with the same issues of racism. They even shared some of the murders they had happen on the continent in Europe.
We are not African, that is the divide. We are not the same people. That is not to say that we have not mixed with other nations with Melanin.

Also true that you may have mixed heritage but the African side is more accepting than the European side ( I stand to be corrected if wrong).
Another side I've noticed is, if Africa was more developed, alot more of black Americans would embrace their African side, instead it is met with ; shame ( African booty scratcher- this too is a whole different story coz NGOs have to show you a certain pic to maintain those donations / funding to come in for their livelihood,salaries), misinformation has greatly been spread and this breeds resentment, I would examine the originator of this narrative. Hint, the savage oppressor.
Conclusion, I'll always look at black Americans as my people regardless of how they treat me or how they perceive their relation to Africans.

@@impartialvoice1080 I have always Loved and accepted African people. They are usually quite humble, happy and accepting of me too. I've worked with many people from Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, I consider most of them good friends.
I loved this conversation! Learnt a lot in13mins. Its really surprising that the Malagasy gentleman speaks such good English with an impressive intonation; despite leaving in a French speaking country! And he says he was born and raised in Madagascar - How impressive!
Some do English as a 2nd language and they tend to speak it fluently. I once had a Congolese do my electricity, he was verh fluent in English. I asked how he was so fluent, he mentioned that they do English as 2nd language.🇿🇦

My first ancestor that my family and I know of was stolen from Madagascar as a child and was sold in New Orleans. We have some of our history written. He said that the white men can on ship and would entice the children to go on rides and would give them treats. They did that to gain their trust and then took them. I have a picture of his daughter when she was in her 90s. She has strong Malagasy features. One day I will go and visit.

They didn’t have to as the Africans brought the slaves out to them. But no shame, my ancestors have created a whole bullshit narrative on who they are and how they got to the states too.

However, sometimes the answer is not what they want to hear because they know more about African Americans than we know about African about their respective cultures. I dont see why people like this constantly go around asking other people how do they feel about black Americans, or any other race for that matter. ( maybe for hits for the show) But anyhow, a person who is about the business of living and taking cares of what he or she has to take care of should care less what a couple of people feel about them. I've traveled in and out of Africa for years, not everyone is going to like you and many people will take you in as family. I could care less what any body including some members of my own African American family feels about me. We give each other the due respect and keep it moving as they say. I suggest you do the same. If the spirit, energy and vibes are not harmonious with yours, move on to were you do fit and the energy is pleasing. The time in which we live is too serious and short, to be blind sided by trivial, minor issues such as what other feel about you. When it is all said and done, the only thing that matters is did you make your self happy, by coming on the planet and fulfilling you purpose in life, what ever that happened to be. Peace

He tried to not say it, but he knows Madagascar has a strong Arab and European slave trade history ("I identify more with the mainland than with Middle East"). Before Suez Canal in 1700s and 1800s it was a strategic outpost for traders in slaves or other items for traffic that came around the southern cape going to the Middle East or Asia. Pirates and privateers also used it.

We are a very educated people. And the recent uprising of violence against our people is due to the level of success we’ve achieved- in a short time span at that. They don’t just hate us because we’re black. They hate us because they did so much to us and we’re right behind them in this “race”. Come see us before you judge. I can’t blame you for your lack of knowledge tho because when I was young all I saw was those Feed The Children infomercials and I assumed that’s how it was in Africa. But as an adult I educated myself about my people of the African diaspora. We live in a divided country here and if you don’t see us for who and what we are then you’re no different than the racist people we live amongst.

I have a question for you all. This interview aside, how do black Americans feel about Madagascans? Probably never thought anything of the country except for the cartoon movies. The sense of self-importance of black America never ceases to amaze me.

Is like me traveling to Hawaii and telling people in Hawaii they don't look American or telling a native American in New Mexico they don't look American. How's an African supposed to look like? @Jude I do not think it is about complexion, most probably the Austronesian genes but I hear your point: Africa is diverse. This takes us to slave trade era and earlier migratory times - by now it should be normal that the continent is very diverse and there is no "typical" African.

Very grateful to have the oppurtunity to travel to several countries and am beyond grateful for the experience to learn about and immerse myself in a culture outside of my own. Africa is a continent. There are many cultures. Culture of Madagascar is different from Nigeria and Nigeria different than Cameroon. To many confuse cultures of countries when talking about Africa due improper education they received. The same can be applied to Europe. Culture in traditional Germany is different than Scotland and Spain is different than France. Those whom have traveled through different countries understand this. Those that don't never will.

Its usually positive when traveling to other countries because they know you are a guest, and its temporary. However, when you are a Black American that now have relocated to a part of Africa and you try to do business...it becomes quite a different experience.
Probably if we come to invest and help the locals, like develop jobs and training where there are lack of opportunities then fine. Like, if I go there will be to invest in the economy & expand abroad with Real Estate. Some foreigners go over there just to leech and the local population doesn't gain or benefit, but instead lose out.
Facts. It's not fair either. The Africans can come to America and get ahead because of the blood sweat and tears shed by Black Americans, yet we can't go to Africa and get the same energy from the locals. These videos are very misleading. By in large, Africa don't rock with us, only on paper do we have anything in common. Africans are funny style if you ask me..
I know I’m white, but I lived in three African countries and saw what you are talking about. A lot of them had negative connotations about some of my black American teammates. (It was so bad that some of them started saying they were Jamaican and not American). It was a two way street though… a lot of my teammates thought that African folks we’re basically cave people and almost talked down to them. It’s important just to go in with no expectations. You are a guest in their country and a representative of Americans, it’s important to be respectful and open to experience. I literally never had a single shitty interaction with anyone the whole time I was in Africa. I can barely go to the store here without somebody being antagonistic or rude just because they feel entitled to be that way. America is kind of broken in that department… there is no reason to be ugly to each other they way we do.

I feel frustrated watching this. It's showing the soft effects of colonialism. I was wanting to see more of unaffected culture. I appreciate what he said about protecting the culture. Although I am a little saddened by what type influence our culture has on their impressions of colonialized wealth and development. This attempt to assimilate has desinigrated cultures across the world with just one generation many times.
I agree! And I am extremely horrified that hip hop is the major impression on the world of American blacks AKA ADOS. We are so much more than that and it is shameful, to me, that the elegance and dignity of decades prior have all but been lost. I hope we can regain it because clearly ADOS is quite consequential to the way the world goes.

Furthermore, we have never had the privilege of fighting just for ourselves. We are surrounded by packs of hyenas including Africans and other immigrant Blacks who hijack our suffering and take what rightfully belongs to us. The first main group to do this was white women whose suffrage movement did not result in the rights that they wanted to achieve so they snatched Civil Rights legislation and declared themselves minorities. Even though there have been far more white women than white men over the last several decades, white women still declared themselves to be minorities. They aren't mistreated for this. Everything they have they owe to legislation that use the civil Rights movement as its cornerstone. If you other blacks, especially those of you in Black countries, want what we have then get up off your asses and do what we did!!
