Just bought one this week, best car I have ever owned by a long shot. I've driven old si's with VTEC and I always felt a little disappointed with them. But the turbo in this one makes a world of difference! If you're prepared to buy a new car and you're interested in this one; take it for a test drive. You will not regret it.
The Type R is ugly. They screwed up IMO by only offering the R in a sedan/hatch. They really should of made a coupe.... I went with my 18 Si over a Type R specifically because the Si coupe looked much better.
@@lilhec1116 the coupe is awesome imo. I really don't often have anymore than 1 other person in my car which is good because the coupe has some very small backseats. If you have kids or anything definitely get the sedan. But otherwise if it's mostly just you cruising def go for the coupe. I think they look alittle better. But again it's all subjective. You won't go wrong with either.
@@lilhec1116 Naw. I got my first car at 17 and it was a manual. Driving a manual gives you a new appreciation for vehicles imo. The new civics have roll back assist also.
Curious to know: have you experienced any issues with the engine yet? I've heard rumors about carbon buildup and gasoline diluting the oil. Any of that?
There is always room for the SI. I always found the Type R to be a track focused vehicle, designed for a better lap time, not a daily driver. The SI is one you get if you want a Type R but also want the practicality of a standard Civic.
Lucky Canadians get standard LEDs. Not sure why those sold in the US get stuck with projectors. I noticed the headlights changed back and forth with the different clips you used.
You can retrofit the led lights to fit in the us spec civics. However the lights are VERY pricey. I ended up just replacing the bulbs with led and I'm quite pleased with the outcome.
Drove a SI last week and what a great car for $25K. Finally Honda put a normal looking dash. No more two tiered funny looking dashes. It's weird with out a volume button but the Lane watch is cool. I use those convex mirrors on all my cars. My first car was a 1989 CRX Si. Back when Honda made fun cars. Thankfully they are doing that again.
The hatch doesnt look bad. But I'm very happy with how the coupe looks. So much so I bought a 2018 civic si over a type r specifically because of the coupe.
Just picked one up on presidents weekend. At a Florida dealer wasn't even on the lot for a week before I bought it. Went up there to pick up a body part for my01 civic and drove home with a new car. Really like it a lot and enjoy driving it
Joseph Belfi I agree, not having a physical volume knob would almost if not most def be a deciding factor in a car purchase for me. I like the positive feedback when i change the volume, not this touch-screen-like bullshit. Anybody I've discussed this with agrees on the physical volume knob, maybe not as much in Japan? The new 2018 accord brought the volume knob back and guess what the 18 was designed in conjunction with the US, specifically in CA
Simple Hondata addon and you get +6psi for around 232hp / 240lb/f in sport mode, or +9psi for around 270hp and 276lb/f (and a blown stock clutch). Pretty big jumps for a plug-in upgrade.
Regarding lack of volume knob, we have a '17 CR-V and while it does have a volume knob, it also has the same volume rocker switch that the Si appears to have. If it works the same way as the CR-V, you can slide your thumb up and down the that switch to raise or lower the volume. You can also push on the switch to change the volume of course. So, to lower the volume quickly, all you have to do is slide your thumb down the face of the rocker switch. The volume lowers quickly and easily. He mentions a 2-step process for muting, but it's actually quite quick and easy if you use the switch on the steering wheel.
Very nice review. Glad to see more Canadian car content on RUclips. I just wish you would've used only the Canadian Si model for the video, because otherwise people may get the impression that the Si comes with optional LED low beams. Only in Canada does the Si have LED low beams. In the States, it comes with halogen projectors. In some of your shots you got Canadian front end of the car, while in others, you have the generic US shots with halogen headlamps.
Curious to know: have you experienced any issues with the engine yet? I've heard rumors about carbon buildup and gasoline diluting the oil. Any of that?
Canadian edition of the SI is based on the Touring model. The American SI is based on the EX. In Canada, the SI is thousands of dollars more expensive than the Touring model. Not so in the US. So the extras don't come "free".
If you have driven a few Hondas without a volume knob without realizing there is a volume knob on the steering wheel then I have to say you are the knob! It's safer and easier using the control on the wheel rather then the head unit. Especially if you are driving a manual transmission.
I never said that there was nothing on the wheel. The wheel one is not a knob, its a button and you still have to do a 2 step process to mute the volume on the head unit. How safe is that if you need to cut the volume right away and you have to look at the screen, touch the volume area and then find the area for the mute.
I can already say that I like the '18 Civic Si "shocking blue", much much better than the bland '07 medium/grey'ish blue that was on that model stock 11 years ago.
"With the type-r around is there room for the si?" Sorry but that is kinda a silly question because it does not matter that the ctr is around because it is so limited production it's like it's not around. Yes there is plenty of room for the si.
I 100% agree with you on the rear bumper, its horrible, doesn't flow at all. I actually wanted the 4door but the 2door rear bumper looks soooooooooooo much better I think I may just get the coupe because of it....
I have a 2018 si. The main problem I have with it is the transmission is so clunky and unsmooth. Also it usually takes more than one try to get it into reverse gear. Do you think I need a clutch adjustment?
I have a 2007 Civic that I absolutely love, still is just a tick under 100k miles... and nothing is wrong with it whatsoever. Do you think replacing it with a 2018 Civic is really a smart move to make? Or if I'm happy with what I have, better the devil I know, than the one I don't? I typically despise change, but at the same time am always curious to see what else new is out there. Kind of an interesting conundrum to be in.

I just got rid of my 2007 Civic and got a 6 spd 2016 Mazda 6 for pretty cheap. From 2014 on up the Skyactive 2.5L 4 banger gets 37 MPG highway on 87 octane gas. Makes 184 HP and 185 ftlbs of torque, handles well, looks good, and is bigger then a Civic. The Civic had better cup holders and arm rest however.
I use the steering wheel volume control on my civic quick swipe from top to bottom mutes the volume. So much easier than using the volume control on the screen
I've been in the market for a 2018 Honda Civic si and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner's manual states that the car should receive premium, but can it take regular? Furthermore, I think the car has a knock sensor that changes the ignition timing caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.
This video made me go to Honda Canada site, oddly in ca.. the si is priced Above the touring model! In USA it is about 2000$ less in ca it is about 1000$ more very odd.. but when you do the conversion to USA dollars.. the si is only about 590$ more worth the price for leds.

You slipped a little here and there on the technical, but that's a great review. I hope you become the guy known for influencing a team of Honda design engineers from a youtube rant. That's would be badass 👍
+hchelfman They already brought back the volume knob on the 2018 Accord so won't be long for the Civic. I predict by the next update it'll have one back.
+DennisD. Dionysius Oh boy that's a tough one. I'd probably go for the Si today, tomorrow could be a different story. So close. I'm assuming it would be a purchase not a lease so I'd have to check on resale.
Akbar Nazirov I used a Audio Technica Shotgun with dead cat wind protector recorded on a Zoom H4N. Mic was mounted on the rear bumper. Thanks for the comment.
This car is a performance bargain at just under $25,000 msrp....probably can get a dealer to discount it $1,000 or so as well. You get a quality Honda built product that is fun to drive and comes standard with a lot of options that other companies charge extra for (or dont even offer). 205hp and 192lbft of torque is just enough for the si
If a Toyota Corolla can get auto rev matching with their manual then the Si should definitely be able to get it. If they can’t do that then they could at least tune out the rev hang from the factory.
Stop living in the 90’s. Volume knobs are a thing of the past! I just recently bought a 2018 Honda Civic and the last thing I worry about is the volume knob. Besides, when you drive this car everyday you get acclimated to the touch volume and it becomes second nature to use. In addition to that, it’s looks better aesthetic wise having an all flat surface rather than a huge knob sticking out of your dash. So PLEASE STOP. Is a volume knob gonna make or break the purchase of a car? Absolutely not! There’s no need to rant about it whatsoever. Ok, now I’m done ranting about everyone ranting about this.
Honda Civic Si or Honda Civic Sport Touring? I prefer the hatchback, but I was surprised to find that the Sport Touring model is more expensive than the Si! With the Si, you can only get a sedan or a stylish (but less practical) coupe, but it must have much sportier parts and underpinnings, right?
Yeah. I hear ya. I guess I just don't understand why Honda would have some options available on other trims but not available on the Si models. Oh well. I guess I'd rather save some money and get the better performing car, despite missing out on some tech options.
I was all set to buy a Civic Sport Hatch, but can't find one in my area. I love hatchbacks but f I got an Si, which model, coupe or sedan, would come closer to the feel of a hatch? what I like about the hatch the most is from the inside. I feel that I have great visibility from all locations.
To mute the audio system all you have to do is slide your finger from + to - once. I've been driving the v6 accord for over a year and it has the same touchscreen
+Nando Yale Yes but on a lot of cars, there's a mute button, no sliding. If the passenger needs to mute, they need to use the screen. I'm not saying it's a deal breaker but when you drive a different car every week, it really stands out when compared to others that are more conventional. I see that for the new 2018 Accord, they have a good old volume knob again as well as the Odyssey as well. It'll be back, just sayin. Appreciate the comment though.
It’s more of a preference thing and what you’re accustomed to. Also with an actual knob, it’s easier for the passenger and the driver. It’s probably just showing my age😆 I also like a traditional shifter opposed to a push button one.
No kidding, the sedan is hideous from the rear. What the heck were the designers thinking ? I'm hoping the 2019 refresh loses those and brings it more in line with the rear of the coupe. Would be nice if they offered Navigation and LED lights as an option as well. I would be thrilled if they offered this in a hatchback at some point.
man I sure hope we can start seeing adjustable dampers in other cheapers cars soon. I drive a wrx but this makes me a bit jelous granted the civic is still weak and fwd.
No volume knob takes about 1 month to get over it. The steering wheel controls are what I primary use. I'm not defending Honda here, but it's by no means a dealbreaker. As for the rear end. Completely agree, but if you can trade off some practicality, the Coupe rear end looks better.
I have a honda prelude 5 speed with a recent h23a vtec swap with 30k miles on it from hmotors. I love my car, love to drive everywhere and just hit vtec. But I'm ready for that new car feel in terms of interior and comfort for my passengers. I've been looking for a new daily, or if anything maybe sell my lude for like 6k+ since everything is new, literally transmission and suspension and paint too. Is it worth getting this si? 1 year later, hows the reliability. Anyone?
Can I cut those fake plastic vents out? Are there aftermarket replacements? I’ve had lots of cars and I’m heartbroken still about losing my Mustang as it was totaled right in front of my house and I had that thing absolutely bonkers fixed up with a supercharger and everything you could possibly do with a tune in blah blah blah about 710 hp 2013 and ever since then I’ve been holding onto an insurance check Because I don’t know what to get next and the money is not enough to get another mustang and if you were it still wouldn’t be anything like what I had. So I found a civic SI just like this and I’m trying to refresh my mind and consider the options and think that it might be fun but the 200 hp thing kind of gets me sad as a Kia K5 is fucking way faster and that sucks
In the beginning there is an si w LED headlights shown. After 1-2min into video the headlight design is completely different. Are there two different cars being shown?
raph0412 No, the new Civic comes with interchangeable headlights. You'd keep the halogens on during the week, but on weekends if you're going out on a date you'd pop in the LEDs.
I just can't get over how bad the Civic hunchback rear ends look. Just make it look more like a small wagon and not a lift back look for all civics. Mazda 3 wagons is a example.
Isn't there a volume on the steering wheel? My Acura TLX had a volume knob on the steering wheel and on the side of the double screen but I have never used that knob only the one on steering wheel so idk why it's such a big deal.
I own a white orchid pear SI sedan and there is NO heated rear seats. 3-way heated seats for front driver and pass for sure....makes me feel like I need to shit lol
yea, makes sense bc Canada and all....I am in New York, as it does get cold here, but never "cold enough to need heated rear seats" cold....keep up the vids man!
any one know what kind of sound system with comes with? the only thing I can find is that it has a 10 speaker system but I want to know if its premium or just kinda standard audio, so I plan a aftermarket install. thanks
jimmydaves I just bought the coupe over the sedan and my reason for the coupe option was aesthetic: it looks better with the more pronounced wing, no rear plastic grates on bumper and 2 doors make it look "sportier." The main disadvantages I found was the doors on the coupe are longer and heavier so you have to be more careful opening the doors in tight spots, and the accessibility of the rear seating area is obviously more hampered with a two door (although according to specs, they are very close in capacity). Same engine, same interface ....just looks better and turns more heads IMO
Who cares about the volume knob. You have buttons on the steering wheel. And an on/off button if you need to "mute" the radio. I think it makes things a little more simple. So many cars now have a volume button on the touch screen and a volume knob which is dumb and just a distraction from the road. Use the steering wheel buttons.
I went with a 2017 Accord Sport 6 speed instead of the Si. I am 33 years old, the Sport is much more elegant and classy. The Si is just too flashy in my opinion. Yes, it has Android auto, push button start, lane watch, bla bla but I just don't trust those tiny little 1.5 turbo engines. My Accord has a traditional naturally aspirated 2.4 and a dual mass flywheel. My car will easily get to 200-250k miles with this setup. No fancy gadgets to go bad, no turbo sludge, no fake rear intake...
Sorry can't agree. Did not like the shifter feels, The insane rev-hang plus FWD and not much power compared to an automatic. Type-R or just any other AWD or RWD car with a manual.
For those complaining about the lack of volume knob, there is are a set of physical volume buttons on the steering wheel. I always use them.
I drive a 2015 Fit with no knob and I use the steering wheel buttons but still long for a knob.

Not having it is safer. Distracted drivers don't need their passengers to be in full control of the volume.
Atleast you can keep ac and power steering if you build the engine and upgrade the turbo. Since the car is made for turbo already.
I had to give 5 star for your Audio system! Would you mind to share us what microphone do you use?
Thanks in advance,
From Nashville, TN
But I don't understand why is Honda charging more for the Honda Civic Sport Touring hatchback.
Yeah.
I feel that I have great visibility from all locations.
jimmydaves. the ep3 no doubt
8th gen si still my favorite💪
So why do people ignore the volume button on the steering wheel and so focused on the one on the center dash?
It’s more of a preference thing and what you’re accustomed to. Also with an actual knob, it’s easier for the passenger and the driver. It’s probably just showing my age😆 I also like a traditional shifter opposed to a push button one.
Do Canadian models have same emissions as USA? If so I might drive to get one just for the lights lol
I was considering the accord 2.0t but I might just save that extra 6 grand and hop in one of these! 🤔
The way the air vent trim and the center console not lining up drives me through the roof! How the... I mean... WHY!?
It really needs the option of the Acura 8 speed DCT transmission. It would sell a lot more.
Jelly that Canada gets LED hightlights for the Si
Awesome car.
thanks for the video
In reality the SI is 20K+ less. You can't touch the typeR for sticker price. They're easily going for 10k over sticker. Higher in most areas.
I really dislike the rear end of the car.
I think the coupe looks better than the sedan, it’s like they styled the sedan more subtly since it’s meant to be more practical.
Frankitox14 exactly why I'm gonna wait for the next gen 😌
Are we sure the 2018 Si comes with heated back seats? He says that at 2:55....
man I sure hope we can start seeing adjustable dampers in other cheapers cars soon. I drive a wrx but this makes me a bit jelous granted the civic is still weak and fwd.
I still don't understand why anyone needs a nob for the volume when the control is also available on the steering wheel.
I really want to get the Si but the fact that it has no volume knob and the rear looks a bit off to me, are making me second guess myself.
No volume knob takes about 1 month to get over it. The steering wheel controls are what I primary use. I'm not defending Honda here, but it's by no means a dealbreaker.
As for the rear end. Completely agree, but if you can trade off some practicality, the Coupe rear end looks better.
Fix the rev hang, and volume knob and Id buy one.
Love my civic si
great review, totally helpful. thanks!
I don't think the fact that it doesn't have a volume knob is a big deal. And I have an Si 2015 coupe.
I have one . Best buy ever!!!
That rev hang is even for a viewer a cruelty.
But there's a software fix for it.
Terrific review...articulate
Ouch I feel your pain. That’s a tough one when you’re used to something that’s so much more special. At least you would save on gas
2:28 Does the younger generation need a volume knob?
In the beginning there is an si w LED headlights shown. After 1-2min into video the headlight design is completely different. Are there two different cars being shown?
raph0412 No, the new Civic comes with interchangeable headlights. You'd keep the halogens on during the week, but on weekends if you're going out on a date you'd pop in the LEDs.
Yes.
The Canadian version is shown with the LEDs and the American version is shown with projectors.
Are those led headlights a dealer option? Since on Honda's website you can't add it on when you build your own that's why I ask.
+My1freind They come standard on the Si.
Probably only available in Canadian model Civic Si.
I see thanks!!
I own a white orchid pear SI sedan and there is NO heated rear seats. 3-way heated seats for front driver and pass for sure....makes me feel like I need to shit lol
+Mike Normandy Hi Mike. Must be because it's a Canadian trim that we get heated rear seats. Where you from?
yea, makes sense bc Canada and all....I am in New York, as it does get cold here, but never "cold enough to need heated rear seats" cold....keep up the vids man!
Trading my 2016 Tacoma TRD for this car next week. Way rather have a sporty SI to hold my equity and not a truck.
Is this 2017 or 2018 civic si?
any one know what kind of sound system with comes with? the only thing I can find is that it has a 10 speaker system but I want to know if its premium or just kinda standard audio, so I plan a aftermarket install. thanks
Is it only the Canadian si that comes with rear heated seats cause the us one doesn’t
Canadian one doesn't either. I had a 2020 Si Coupe and that one didn't have heated seats in the back either.
Coupe vs Sedan? advantages/disadvantages?
jimmydaves I just bought the coupe over the sedan and my reason for the coupe option was aesthetic: it looks better with the more pronounced wing, no rear plastic grates on bumper and 2 doors make it look "sportier." The main disadvantages I found was the doors on the coupe are longer and heavier so you have to be more careful opening the doors in tight spots, and the accessibility of the rear seating area is obviously more hampered with a two door (although according to specs, they are very close in capacity). Same engine, same interface ....just looks better and turns more heads IMO
MattShock28. Thanks for the informative reply. I have another question. I'm 6'1. Would I have trouble fitting into an Si Coupe?
I like the type r more but i love this one too
Why does is have different head lights? Like one is s 2017 and one is a 2018?
Canadian versions get LEDs. U.S. versions get stuck with halogens. He was splicing his video and Honda U.S. marketing video together.
How much power can you really squeeze out if that 1.5l???
Dumb Dead1 about 1.5 liters of power
Dumb Dead1 vitviper is making 275whp on his. Bought the flashpro for mine... quicker than an Focus ST and wrx.
Honest review
Volume knob still doesn't bother me
Do these have a spare tire?
Who cares about the volume knob. You have buttons on the steering wheel. And an on/off button if you need to "mute" the radio. I think it makes things a little more simple. So many cars now have a volume button on the touch screen and a volume knob which is dumb and just a distraction from the road. Use the steering wheel buttons.
I don’t think anyone is a fan of the two crates in the bumper
this or type-r?
