Didn't know who Mk. Gee was before his SNL performance, but he's had one of the best sounding live performances I've heard on SNL. I've been disappointed by more popular artists, so was totally taken aback by how great he sounded.
His live performances overall are unreal. Saw him perform live in October and it’s just like every single song is elevated in his live versions. His song how many miles is one I enjoy, but I didn’t really come back to it often when I’d listen to his album but after hearing it live, I fell in love worth it. It’s like that for every song live.
Love those toms and that crispy sizzling bass 2:33-2:34 (almost like an 808? Or just tons of effects? How do they do that reverb to it to make it sustain like that?)

Its so much more full sounding and makes you fall in love with songs maybe that weren't in heavy rotation on the studio version. For me, it was Little Bit More and How Many Miles. Both great songs, but I would gravitate more towards Candy, DNM, Rylee and I, I Want, and Dream Police when listening to his album, but hearing Little Bit More and How Many Miles live just made me appreciate the artisty of them more and got even more hooked.
I like mk.gee but if it wasn't for his singing his sound would be very generic. But he has a haunting beautiful voice and it elevates his music into something unique

Mk.Gee is the one of best when it comes to tension and release in a song. This song is an example. It’s driving and nearly all tension and when you get to the chorus the perfect release. I hope he got nominated for a Grammy this year because “Two Star and The Dream Police” was one of the best albums released this year.

Discovered him earlier this year when "Are You Looking Up" was used on The Bear soundtrack. I became instantly obsessed, so much that I bought 2 VIP tables (8 seats) to see him live in Hollywood, and dragged a bunch of friends with me to the show. His sound is influenced by The Police, Genesis, Prince, and so many more, but is never derivative of them. His unique production style and guitar modulation really make him stand out from other artists. Can't wait for my vinyl to show up next week!
imho it’s because for a lot of the songs (like this one) he streamlines and rearranges them to be in a more guitar-forward and arena rock-esque package, whereas on the album he’s more interested in exploring and experimenting with different textures and fidelities. Which a lot of artists do ofc, and he’s really adept at it
