13:53 I’ve said for years one of the things that makes sunny so rewatchable is how there’s always something funny going on with different characters reactions. Facial, posture, or verbal
Listening to them talk about their journey certainly has me regretting not trying to chase my comedic passions. If any younger people are motivated by this episode, then DO IT. Find a way to get your feet wet to see if you need this, and if the shoe remotely fits, throw yourself into it. People say you have your entire life to find out what you like to do, but life doesn’t stop. I did a lot of other things that guaranteed more security and before I knew it, I’m in my 40s and that life you wanted is passing you by. Some things you can’t do when you get older, at least in the same capacity. A fear of failure is the worst feeling to cultivate at a young age. Playing is safe will certainly keep you from certain failures, but as you get older and turn around to look at what you’ve done and accomplished, while you have have lead an adventurous life, doing and seeing things most will never do in a lifetime, you will see your safer journey as a failure in its own way. Squandered gifts are the worst. It’s better to fail miserably than to move on before you even really gave it a shot. Life is short. Be on of the few that really chased it, so you aren’t the 40+ year old that had some tastes of what it could be like but had to play it safe first and will do that a little later down the road. If you chase it early enough, you don’t need a fall back because it’s so much easier to reinvent yourself. You gotta be all in on most things that can be really big payoffs. Don’t waste time appeasing others; it’s your life and it might not be as long as you hope it can be. Stoke the fire and keep it fueled!

@@HigherKaiju Interesting, I feel like it was the best season since s10. One of the most unique too by having an overarching story and satisfying character moments for Charlie. It would be interesting if they had a character they focused on in every other season finale, like 13 was for Mac and 15 was for Charlie. So the rest can be for the Reynolds and if we follow the same pattern we'd get at least 21 seasons in total.... HMMMM

Very cool to hear you guys talking about showcases! I went to a highly regarded college for theatre, and you'd be happy to know that several actors chose to do scenes from Sunny in their showcases. The scenes were Dennis and Dee in the gym (wearing jeans) and Dee and Charlie "gumming" the blow, but there may have been more. These scenes always got the audience riled up!
Hearing Glenn talk about Juliard auditions really hammered in how good of an actor he is. He and Charlie both understand that the goal of acting is to entertain. And that makes them phenomenal actors
Glenn-- 100% I've done entire series rewatches where my goal is to watch the non-speaking actors. Seeing Danny's reactions, or one of you trying to stifle a laugh is amazing. Charlie's acting while you monologue trying to get the girls into the bunker in Storm of the Century is amazing!
This crew has built a life that I kinda see as my American dream. Not necessarily the industry, but the general balance and accomplishments they have found in their life. The timeline, the relationships, everything.
I'm grateful and amazed that you guys are continuing to make time for the pod while actively creating the show. I'm sure your time is precious right now.
Meg is a gem, it's great to see how much she enjoys talking with these guys. She's always got a big smile on her face and really listened to Charlie and Glenn's storys.
When Megan said that she needs a little treat when writing all I could see was Poppi from Mythic Quest cramming skittles in her mouth while coding. I fully agree that writing needs treats. Snacks = motivation.
@@AbeVicious LOL! For sure! But Rob is a facilitator. He takes action on all their ideas and propels them forward. No small feet! 90% of success is just showing up. 👍
Glenn’s story gave me Unified audition flashbacks. I auditioned for 21 colleges in 5 days, and drank so much Throat Coat that I puked after my last one. Will never ever forget that week
I always intend to do my physiotherapy watching this, and I ALWAYS forget all about it about a minute in. You guys are just so great to watch together.
For this episode to come out right when I'm finally admitting to myself that I may want to give acting a shot.... I can't get more of a green light than these guys saying to give it a shot.
Glenn - thanks for this episode. This is why I started listening to the podcast. I needed to hear from people who made the choice to believe in their passion, go for it in the acting world, and choose to live a life without regrets. thanks
I've always been waiting to hear about this topic because they both come from unlikely backgrounds. Rob is super funny to me, especially in some of the upcoming episodes. His riff with Frank's sister in law in Intervention destroys me. The turn from 'I hope you like it crispy because it is burned' to 'you're always safe when you're with me' is giddying.
Loved this ep, I grew up doing a lot of plays and acting in my local theater scene, despite being a small town in Texas we had a surprisingly big arts scene with a ballet company, 3 theater companies, and two high school theater scenes. I LOVED acting, still do, and miss it. I got into a STEM field in college (which I'm still doing, pursuing a doctorate atm) and I have just gotten so busy I haven't had time to keep doing shows and stuff. This ep has me hoping once I'm through my grad school and a bit more stably employed I can start getting into musicals and shows again cause I really enjoyed it as a hobby, I don't think I would pursue a career in it, but I would love to be a part of my local scene!
Quick story - back in 2014 I read an interview with Rob about how he was frustrated with not getting opportunities and so he made his own opportunity with Sunny by seeing through his vision and working his ass off - I had recently graduated from college and after a great interview with a big sports media company, they didn't hire me because I wasn't an athlete and they thought an athlete in that sport - WHO WASN'T A WRITER! - made more sense. I was pissed, but that interview inspired me to create my own media company, I started getting noticed for my expertise, NBC hired me to consult for the Olympics two years later, and I ended up winning an Emmy as a producer. I now go to every Olympics working for myself, and the company I interviewed with now barely exists (and the athlete they hired was ultimately fired for plagiarizing, mostly from my work). I give so much credit to Rob for not only what he did, but for constantly talking about how he did it, and I felt that same inspiration from Glenn and Charlie in this episode. They're all incredible examples of people who made their careers happen from the ground up. If you want to do something and believe in it, don't wait for an opportunity. DO IT!
This was a really great one. My delusions of being an actor are long behind me, but I still want to write or create something. I hope they do another episode on writing or creating pitches for shows/movies/ect.
In my life, that was one of those scenes where I didn't yet know the actor I was watching when I first viewed it, so subsequent views these days give me a different (greater) appreciation. But sadly no matter how many times I watch Serenity, Glenn's only mercy is the bullet Mal puts in him. I think he could've made a good Browncoat. I'll keep trying.
13:35 this is definitely my favorite part of rewatching Sunny for the millionth time. I'm ashamed to say that when I first started watching ~12 years ago, I never gave Dee much thought. But she has become my favorite character, especially rewatching old episodes and picking up Kaitlin's reactions in the background. Of course, Dee is funny when she's in the spotlight, but it's when she's in the background that she made me appreciate Dee as a character and Kaitlin as an actor. Prime example is watching Dee's face while Dennis interviews Ben for the podcast (twooo wars??)
Wow. Glenn talking about how acting is pretty much the only thing he doesn't get impostor syndrome about resonates hard. Great way to prioritize how to spend your time, honestly. (At least in my case, anyway. Of course there's also a ton of value in getting out of your comfort zone, but this has me thinking I should put more value in doing the stuff I can't get enough of/actually have a level of self-confidence in, haha.) Thanks, guys!
i always love listening to creative people talk about their process and how their careers came about. this was a very sweet episode :) kinda made me emotional, too.... i just love that they are still so passionate about their profession, i think
Glenn's point about entertaining and having fun reminds me of playing live music because you're only good when you're having fun, and there's a clear difference visually and audibly.
I never watched the show. I saw a clip of the podcast and decided to watch an episode. I’m now a few seasons in. Love the show. But love the podcast just as much. I get so much joy hearing you discuss the process.
I get the writing and walking around/eating carbs thing. It's like I need to be doing something physical with my hands while I'm thinking. If I could juggle or wittle wood, I feel like I would be doing that while breaking stories and/or just planning.

New favorite episode. Thank you all for your advice and stories about your craft. I hope you know how much it means to so many of us!
The best day of the week is when this podcast comes out.
This is my absolute favorite episode, the discussion about how they got into acting was amazing.
Also stop being sponsored by a gambling app, what the fuck are you doing?
Glenn absolutely nailed Rob, those are SO his mannerisms 😭
He's great at impersonation. CCH Ponder. No nonsense BB from the precinct
That "if you want to live a better life" line in the ad that Glen did as Rob... was actually a spot on Rob impression.
When Megan said that she needs a little treat when writing all I could see was Poppi from Mythic Quest cramming skittles in her mouth while coding. I fully agree that writing needs treats. Snacks = motivation.
as a film student I love the direction the podcast is taking discussing what it’s like working on set and in the industry!
I think the reason I enjoy this podcast so much is it’s a window into a life radically different from my own I love it
"this guy spends a lot on defense" is such a great euphemism
Only show that I don’t skip through the ads. There are some great, hilarious bits in there! Dennis acting like Rob had me rolling lol
Charlie gave that jabroni an ocular patdown and he was like "Not on my set, bro"
I hope you guys revisit this topic again with Rob present. I'd love to hear his story and take on acting/writing/producing as well.
Pretty simple. He rode on their coattails 😂🤣
@@AbeVicious LOL! For sure! But Rob is a facilitator. He takes action on all their ideas and propels them forward. No small feet! 90% of success is just showing up. 👍
Glenn playing Rob’s part was something I didn’t know I needed ‘til this very moment😂😂😂
If Mac was only there it would be obvious by a simple ocular patdown if the guy with the backback was a threat or not.
Glenn’s story gave me Unified audition flashbacks. I auditioned for 21 colleges in 5 days, and drank so much Throat Coat that I puked after my last one. Will never ever forget that week
Glen is the man I would love to meet him. Thanks for this inspirational podcast
I always intend to do my physiotherapy watching this, and I ALWAYS forget all about it about a minute in. You guys are just so great to watch together.
For this episode to come out right when I'm finally admitting to myself that I may want to give acting a shot.... I can't get more of a green light than these guys saying to give it a shot.
its heart warming to hear charlie listening to advice given by little guys like pappy mcpoyle. ❤
I have really enjoyed watching Sunny over the years. I have learned to pause my favourite moments and view everyone’s reactions during the scene.
Uncle Jack is back for season 16? Fuck yes!
Just don't look at his hands
Glenn is so happy to talk about his acting
Mrs.Howerton I'm so glad you asked your son if he would regret not going to acting school, turned into a great career that I am a huge fan of
Glenn - thanks for this episode. This is why I started listening to the podcast. I needed to hear from people who made the choice to believe in their passion, go for it in the acting world, and choose to live a life without regrets. thanks
It's weird Glenn didn't mention he went to Juliard. He should be proud of going to Juliard.
Juliard.
Hold up , a comedy written by charlie day , starring Glenn and the late Ray Liotta. Thats a must see in my book
14:45 Rob doesn't think of himself as actor first. Coz he is Irish first. A gay man second. And then probably actor.
I've always been waiting to hear about this topic because they both come from unlikely backgrounds. Rob is super funny to me, especially in some of the upcoming episodes. His riff with Frank's sister in law in Intervention destroys me. The turn from 'I hope you like it crispy because it is burned' to 'you're always safe when you're with me' is giddying.
literally just discovered this podcast tonight and there's already a new episode. it absolutely rules. y'all have a new listener and fan!
no one cares.
@@thatONEmachine I care 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Oh nice, every episode is great. My personal fave is the saint paddy's one where they get browned out
@@thatONEmachine shut up bird
They have a tv show too you should give it a chance
Sounds like Charlie did a real life ocular pat down
"Didn't sound like best friend talk out here to me." - Dennis
Rob would be proud of Charlie for the ocular pat down.
I do not think people realize how valuable this information is and also, how therapeutic this is. I'm getting grounded with this.
This is going to inspire someone who ends up creating something incredible.
Thanks Gang. 🏆
I love that Charlie did an ocular pat down of the supposed guy working on set.
I was rewatching Serenity the other day and just realized Glenn almost got eaten alive by reavers until Mel shot him dead!
@37:00 was a great Rob. Excellent acting Glenn.
"I'm flying this plane for me" hahahaha
i always love listening to creative people talk about their process and how their careers came about. this was a very sweet episode :) kinda made me emotional, too.... i just love that they are still so passionate about their profession, i think
wow these guys really seem to have a lot of passion for acting. keep pushing fellas, it'll work out for you someday!
Glenn's point about entertaining and having fun reminds me of playing live music because you're only good when you're having fun, and there's a clear difference visually and audibly.
11:45 yes Meg tell us all about Chevy and Community... I want to hear the poop
Glenn really nailed the Rob impression. Best ad so far!
8:25 Glenn is talking about Michael Ironside
After this episode, I’d loooove one about the writers and their process, with Rosell, Marder and Meg being interviewed like that too 😊
Glenn was on fire in this episode!! 😎👏
hyped for the next season whenever you guys talk about it!
Rob has never looked or sounded so good in those ad reads! Spot On! the only thing missing was a Wrexham mention in a plug that has nothing to do with Wrexham.
I would love to see some old video of one of the gang acting at a school age, that would be a trip!
