One theoristy way to explain how Treasure Tracker prequels all three games at the same time is simply that each was a separate expedition that ended in the final locales. The first ending with 3D World was after Toad saved Toadette, the second ending with Odyssey was after Toadette saved Toad and Wingo kidnaps Toadette again, and the final ending with Mario Bros U. was their expedition to find the Super Crown, and Toadette just had it on her when she left to help Mario and the others.

So really, you could create any number of timeline combinations for the games between Galaxy 2 and Bowser’s Fury! As for the issues with Captain Toad in Odyssey, you could say that canonically Mario meets Captain Toad in the Sand Kingdom first, since the only moons that have a set order to them are the story moons (which are technically skippable)

What’s funny is they could’ve still done all. Had the main story end with the 3d land tease, have a single post story mission set up odyssey, then have that dlc story.
I am one of the people to have played the game on Wii U. It was a long time ago so I don’t remember the specifics but I did enjoy. I remember not buying the switch/3ds version specifically because they cut out the 3D world bonus levels thus making it a worse version of the game. For the story stuff I am probably bias but I prefer the Wii U for the fact that the 3D world cutscene looks like it has more effort in it then the odyssey cutscene.

I saw another comment mentioning Galaxy 2, but I don't know enough about that game to put it on here. I do think that the problem with seeing Toad in the Cap and Cascade Kingdoms could be resolved by just um you know NOT seeing him. I mean, who said Mario canonically 100%s every Kingdom on the first visit? Heck, who said he canonically 100%s anything? All this says is that he found Capt Toad in those Kingdoms after going to Sand. I know that it's dumb, but at least it's as soon as Mario gets the Odyssey instead of, say, Moon Kingdom. Okay, how is this - Treasure Tracker is first, but at the end, a weird effect from the power star they got sends Captain Toad and Toadette not just to the Sand Kingdom but also into the future. Now they have the Special Episode and uncover the Super Crown. Toadette leaves here and give the crown to her own future self. After that, Toad and Toadette are sent back to the end of Treasure Tracker which now plays out as in the original. Captain Toad goes on to appear in Odyssey, travelling to places that he already knows from his time travel adventure while Toadette stays home, gets the Super Crown from her past self and becomes Peachette.
I can see why the 2014 and 2018 versions have different endings. One is a prequel to the WiiU main Mario game and one is a prequel to the Switch main Mario game. Aaand now we have them both on switch. And I can see the extra dlc chapter happening after Odyssey or 3D World so that one isn’t as confusing.

This is a good video and all, but I do have 1 thing: The ending of the special episode can't be a direct prequel to New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe because in the intro cutscene to that game, we see Toadette having a tea party with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yellow Toad, and thats how she ended up going on that adventure. I don't mean to nitpick, but thats something that bothered me.
Who says that the credits scene doesn't have a time gap that alloes the timeline to make sence,like who says that they aren't 2 different scenes that take place in different times

Technically, the inclusion of New Super Luigi U in NSMBU DX makes Captain Toad Treasure Tracker a prequel to FOUR games.
