Wow, I am getting ready to leave the Berkshires for Midland. We the Humans can adopt and adapt. I am from Africa, no problem. Salute to any Brandeis people out there.
I just moved to Midland from Lancaster, Massachusetts on June 7th, 2018. It has been so hard emotionally. I miss my family so much! I also moved here for work. Hoping it gets better. Way different than New England. I miss the green scenery.
Lol, literally everyone from anywhere else in the world says that when they move here. No trees, no terrain, no NOTHIN’. Just a flat, dry, neverending wasteland of mediocrity and drugs. Even us native Odessans hate it. Every young person who was raised here has the ultimate goal of gettin’ as far away from here as possible, preferably to a place where there’s PLANTS and RAIN and where the summers aren’t 110 degrees and fryin’ like the inside of an oven.
My husband moved there from the North Shore Mass. I'd say the Permian Basin can best be described as pretty much like Mordor, but with good BBQ. It was a really tough time. When we moved to New England from Midland it took months for me to stop staring at the water like it was magic. Since moving there we do have a much better savings account than we would have otherwise, but...it's not for people who come even from better parts of Texas. I know many women who actually burst into tears when they first came into the city because their husbands got jobs in the oil fields. If you're starting to go insane, the Guadalupe National Park (a mere four hour drive away!) has some really nice scenery and the canyons there are lush and green.
Maise, welcome to the world of Schlumberger! 20+ years ago I jumped on a plane and flew from Edinburgh Scotland, to arrive in Elk City OK... my starting point in the world of Slb..Your video brings back a lot of similar memories, even though the scenery is a little different (and maybe the well density!) For me it's been a crazy roller coast ride around the world but I have loved it... you are joining a great company and team... Enjoy it and make the most of every day, where ever you are.... reach out if you need something and good luck!
Duncan! Wow, thank you so much for the comment! That is so amazing!! Its been a crazy rollercoaster ride since day 1 for me too! haha Thanks for watching!!
I lived here half my life out at Greenwood my dad was in the oil field trucking bussiness 24 years we left in 89 after the big oil bust, none of those apartment were there when we lived there, looks like off Loop 250
Welcome to the West Texas Desert! Please drive save, watch out for the big trucks (Me)! I have two daughters here and they do fine. Just be extra careful in traffic here.😎
Just accepted a offer from Schlumberger as a Field Logistics/Ticket Specialist. I'll be working 15/6 around Midland/Odessa. Any tips and do people enjoy that position?
I'm a youtuber as well and I moved to Midland July of last year. Different world from Houston where I used to live. I still do youtube videos anyhow! Beer and BBQ are perfect for west Texas lol
MaiseFitLife I'm in the San Juaquin Valley. They are doing huge layoffs here and at 7 years with the company, I'm not high enough. That tells you how deep the cuts are! So I'm taking the job in Pyote, about an hour east of you, as a gas operator. I'll be there in January. I plan to live in or near Odessa but since I don't have any time off until I leave, I can't scout so I'll have to figure it out when I get there.
My husband wants to get a field operator job in midland, but we don't want to live in the city. We are more rural type people. Is there the possibility of buying 10-20 acres of rural land there with a house and not having to commute too far? Is it like a desert there all year round?
Honestly, I do not know too much about Midland since I just moved in. 10-20 acres of rural land and build a nice house is very do able! I think its a great idea. It is a desert all year long
S C it’s perfect weather here if you like snow you get it if you like sunny days in the summer you’ll get it and yes you can buy land and also on the suburbs of Milan’s there is this neighborhood called lone star estates they have a company called betenbough and they build homes fit for you and your family
Move here at your own risk. Booms end and people get hurt financially here. When it bust there are ZERO jobs available. Lay offs are massive. I've been here all my life. I would advise anyone who moves here to stay out of debt and make money while you can. If the boom continues great. If it bust's (again) your not in debt and can survive. Also where your working lay off people at the first sign of a slow down.
scan1982 thats why i got my CDL. Im over the road when its slump. Or when its winter. And its too cold for me. I just go to mexico or south america and do some consulting for pemex or petrobras.
seriously get a realtor even for an apartment if you don't have a place yet. prices for houses at the moment are a sellers market but a good realtor can find enough to get prices down.
Yes, I am. I'm just having a hard time finding an apartment in Odessa/Midland. There are so many negative reviews online. Hope everything is going well for you.
Honestly, the reviews are pretty bad but it is not that bad!!! its a great place for work opportunity and to make money! Definitely not a pretty place but its ok! Don't worry!
You probably dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all the new series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my gf for the last days xD
So I would like to get in The Outsiders Viewpoint. Especially one in the industry. What do you think about the Wolfe Camp find? Do you think it's going to be that big about opportunity for the oil companies there? How long do you think it will be before they really get tapped into it?
Hi Maise, I may be moving to Midland in the following months to work at the oilfield (drilling). How's transportation in Midland like? Is it a must to have a car to get around the city? Would you recommend me to take my electric bike with me to move around or should I just leave it hera at home?
dry. very dry. another comment mentioned the things to do, along with 10-12 bars. we don't appreciate people driivinig like they are from dallas or houston or new york. be nice and we reciprocate. in trouble just turn your hazard lights on, someone will stop and check on you
What I like the best of your videos is that your so beautiful. I also work in the oil field in midland I’ve worked in production for 12 years and I’ve been a production Forman for the past 4 years production is the best of the oil field always working and I love midland I was born and raised here❤️❤️❤️❤️keep strong 💪
I worked offshore. Started in the GoM (gulf of mexico) i was really disappointed with pay when i moved to midland. :( But at least i was home in the lone star state. : D
Yes!! haha this is Midland! all those rigs and pump jacks basically make up a big part of the city! Don't worry tho, there is plenty to do here! Gyms, Restaurants, a small mall, golf, etc. Anyways, most people are onlu here to work and make some $$$$$$ and live elsewhere:)! Thanks for subs! Ill be making more videos on SLB!
no problem and thats good to know cause i had no idea never been to West Tx ever just heard its alot of dirt lol.. Thats exactly what i had in mind lol work there and probably move to Forth Worth and just drive back and forward on off days but woah i know its like 7hr drive from there. I honestly though the company would be the one that get me transportation there but i found out afterwards i was hired that i was responsible to depart there.
I've lived in midland my whole life. It's a good place to live but keep in mind we are next door to Odessa and Odessa has the highest crime rate in all Texas
Hey i think youre very brave for stepping out of your comfort zone! Add me on facebook! I live in tx and was thinking of finding work in midland, you could really be a great help Michael Brian Aquino Ada ... thank you n good luck!

I've been offered a job in this area, I'm still contemplating
My family lives there. Such a small and nice place to visit, for me I can't live there lol
Wow, I am getting ready to leave the Berkshires for Midland. We the Humans can adopt and adapt. I am from Africa, no problem. Salute to any Brandeis people out there.

You'll like it here. I live in Midland, and it's a hot, dry, bowl of oil, but the people are nice, and so are tons of other things.
My a$$, People here are not nice, Everyone here always has a attitude
You live very close to me !!!
Watch out for the assholes on the road.Love you.
I just moved to Midland from Lancaster, Massachusetts on June 7th, 2018. It has been so hard emotionally. I miss my family so much! I also moved here for work. Hoping it gets better. Way different than New England. I miss the green scenery.

I come from Bogota people walk on the streets, green mountains around, parties and music every weekend. Lord I can’t wait to move to a better place .
Im from odessa tx.

I'm considering the purchase of a quad-plex in Midland. Might happen in a couple of weeks.
Do you like Texas? Where did you move from?

I am field engineer in the Wireline Division! Chevron is one of our clients! :) Texas is awesome! Where do you live now?

Check out the Greenwood area. You'll take awhile to find a place but there are some nice places to find.
S C it’s perfect weather here if you like snow you get it if you like sunny days in the summer you’ll get it and yes you can buy land and also on the suburbs of Milan’s there is this neighborhood called lone star estates they have a company called betenbough and they build homes fit for you and your family
you can also look north of town. greenwood is honestly the better school district though
