Nice story. I retired from Schlumberger in 2016 after 42.5 years. I didn't work in the field, but got tons of exposure to field people when I served as an Intouch engineer in Wireline for several years. My last six years was in Completions in the Rosharon Center. Be careful to balance your work and personal life because SLB is infamous for breaking up marriages. Try to take your experience to a Product center where you can a real difference. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Great description of an amazing job and life style. I worked and retired for Schlumberger for 25 years (wireline), 11 in the Field in 13 Countries in Middle East, South America and North Africa. Great description. I am here enjoying your video with my 13 year old daughter who always asked me how was my job at SLB. I am also a Chemical Engineer and my experience in SLB is on a 10/10 !!!

I was working as Measurements while drilling specialist in the drilling and measurements segment which is close wireline logging except we were doing it while drilling. The worst thing was that we dont have any work rotation. Sometimes you have to spent 6 or 7 weeks in the field and you get less than a week at home. Also, the temperature during summer reaches around 50 degrees Celsius here in Oman (near abu dhapi).
I left Schlumberger and I am working for Occidental now as. Senior Gas processing and dehydration operator. The most thing I miss in SLB is the training center in Abu Dhabi. I wish I could go back and meet my friends there.

While I don't wish this to happen to you or anyone else , I look forward to seeing your video /perception about SLB if you ever get fired for unfair reasons, or if your presence on the payroll is not in line with corporate objectives. I left what was then REW after 5 years & never regretted it.
SLB is infamous for being an excellent brain washing machine to cover up for what many people regard as modern slavery. When I took my GFE, the only lesson I learnt was that every employee was a serialized asset, whose value depreciates linearly over approximately 5 years. There are some many other service companies out there that treat people far better than big blue.

I relate to what you're telling in this video... I also worked as a field engineer for Slb in Venezuela... My first days off happened after 3 months of working every single day and it didn't change much until I left almost 2 years later
I really liked the job and specially the team, I was the only girl in the fracking and sand control department but it was the best, the guys treated me like a little sister. We worked on shallow waters (the rigs were on a lake) so it was a pretty unique experience, wouldn't trade it.
What made me leave was the lifestyle and that we lost some of the contracts and they were laying me off of the field job (we all know that's were the money is) so it didn't make sense for me to stay anymore.
I am now in an oil company and I enjoy it very much, I get to know about all lines of service, specially artificial lift, and I'm much more comfortable with lifestyle even though I don't make as much as a field engineer here (I'm in Argentina now).
Thanks for the video! Interesting to watch!

Only fun part of wireline is when the winch man gets it stuck. I have fish for wireline more times that I can count. You need to get on the drilling side. Everything else is just the help 😆. P.s deep water operating cost is 1.2-1.5 million dollars a day and I’ve ran pressurize logs, tractors, side entry wire line. I’ve done it for 13 years as a driller and rig manager all over the world and I’m thinking of getting out and getting my degree because it never fails that most engineers in drilling don’t have a clue about what drilling a well is like, but they are the ones writing the program 🤔. Good luck doll.

Great job if you're fresh out of school and hungry. Once you get established you'll find way better positions that treat you well. Chemicals engineering? Look into pharmaceuticals or petrochemicals (polymers/plastics/resins). Normal hours, plenty of time off with friends and family and a low to mid 6 figure income. With the advent of fracking, there is a huge petrochemicals boom in North America, particularly the united states. North East part of the US is developing rapidly and is going to become a rival to the major petrochem industry in the gulf.

Hello , I am joining Baker Hughes as junior electrical field service specialist. I am going for training in Florence Italy 🇮🇹. Is this a good job for an electrical engineer? It seems their pay is not that great form my offer letter . Is there an additional money I could make with field work other than regular hourly pay? I need your help to decide if I have to reject this offer . Thank you 🙏

So are you involved somewhat with the B.O.P? helping keep an eye on the integrity of the well too?
I have developed a bit of an interest in offshore oil rigs since watching "Deepwater Horizon" lol
I am in no way qualified for that type of work though.
I wonder if there are less labour intensive roles women can do on these platforms?
    Very interesting video!

I graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree a month ago and I've tried applying for any position just to get in and work with the Engineers in whatever capacity after gaining some experience and I've been rejected even for positions that require only high school diplomas (that includes Material Handlers and Mechanical Assemblers). I really don't know what they want or what they're looking for at this point.

I work offshore as LWD engineer and we get screwed on Time off lol. We work duration and barely get any time off. I did work for Schlumberger for a bit. Training was great and pay was better but they are the first to do cuts when it’s a down turn. Rather use my mechanical engineering degree in the office actually fixing problems for the the field like tools and developing new technologies.

    • @maisefitlife

I would think that is a better choice, as an engineer you don't do as much physical work as an operator. I am sure there are other jobs in which you mainly sit at a desk and not necessarily use too much lifting etc.
