This may sound harsh but I didn't feel sympathy for Cheryl when Rachel invited jasmine side Chick to the dinner even though Rachel knew Lonnie was cheating with jasmine. Cheryl never resisted taking shots at Rachel
When the eldest child is put in that position of a surrogate mother and is expected to act like an adult with the youngest or younger one constantly being made excuses for, it can cause enmity. That is what I see between these two. Rachel had the opportunity to explore life and make mistakes, but Cheryl couldn't.
As a blk man, I understand why many bw become how Gabrielles character are. I've heard too many stories where bw have felt cornered to have sex or entertain men solely based on receiving help in a time of dire need & the man uses this opportunity to get or coerce what they really after. Sad but true. All help ain't good help. Smh
@@Not_Always well then you're lucky. Remember Jada Pinketts character in SET IT OFF? What she had to do to get that check? Many women get caught in situations just like that. Even online they have this meme of some older guy whose a landlord pounding out a female tenant cuz she can't pay her rent. It happens so often that it's become a joke now. So just cuz you have been fortunate enough to have that never happen to you or anyone you know, don't think it's not happening. Believe it or not, it probably has happened to someone you know. They just don't wanna tell you or anyone about it.
I mean I ain’t speaking for all black women, but I have ABSOLUTELY known black women who have been in a similar scenario, and it goes even deeper than just in the intimate sense: friends who are after money or whatever benefits come with the friendship. But the example you gave? Yeah, I’ve known some, I’ve been one once upon a time too. It happens, y’all
I didn't like Cheryl in this movie I felt like she was the jealous sister she stayed starting stuff with Rachel and Rachel would try to ignore her but it like Cheryl wanted to keep screwing with her u honestly didn't feel all that sorry for her about Rachel bringing Lonnie's mistrest to their Christmas dinner
Yes that malachi Rachel window scene was so cringe. The fact that Malachi was everywhere convenient for a conversation or situation for Rachel was like….did he have anything else going on or was he plotting and planning waiting on cue to hit up Rachel in every scene of interaction?
It was Cheryl's prom dress instead of hers because she burned/destroyed her own I ADORE this movie! Each of the siblings had interesting arcs and Monique was a hoot LOL
I was perfect with the guesses this month 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. This movie & This Christmas are mirror movies. Cheryl & Rachel’s dynamic were the same as Lisa & Kelli from This Christmas & Terri & Max from Soul Food. Fun Facts: Danny Glover & Kimberly Elise were also in Beloved, Omar Epps & Gabrielle Union were also in Love & Basketball, Gabrielle Union & Monique were also in Two Can Play That Game, Gabrielle Union & Romany Malco were also in Think Like A Man & Think Like A Man 2 & DC Young Fly & Keri Hilson were also in For The Love Of Money. I can’t wait for what’s in store for 2024.
Nicole Ari Parker we're in this Disney film called the Loretta Claiborne story Nicole played a jealous sister in there and Nicole was a regular on Soul food the tv series and Kimberly Elise had a recurring on there
NGL, I would have probably tried the boba tea that Aunt May made. It was the only thing that actually looked good out of all the other foods she made.🤣
Ykw Im convinced that there's a troupe in messy ass family dinners in black cinema forreal. There's Why Did I Get Married, Madea's Big Happy Family, Soul Food...bro I swear
I prefer This Christmas but Monique’s performance definitely saved this one from Tubi low budget status. Also can we have a moment for Kimberly Elise’s understated/underrated beauty, body and class. Are bugs in collard greens really a thing? I never heard that one before. Love the reviews as always, can we get a retro review of Hav Plenty?
I love this movie more than this Christmas. Their chemistry was better imo and Monique was funny. Can you do shaft starring Samuel L Jackson? The actor playing Evan played his son in the last one
When Rachel and Cheryl had the talk in the hospital I honestly don't think Rachel was ever jealous Cheryl it was envy which is different from jealousy envy is when you want what someone else has but you're happy for that person and don't resent them or have any hostility plus the big sister that looked up to treated her like dirt Cheryl was definitely jealous of Rachel all because they're parents helped her or whatever as kids but how do you still have that resentment and jealousy now that y'all grown immature as ever Cheryl and I think she was threatened by Rachel being the strong independent beautiful woman Cheryl knew Lonnie was nothing but stayed
Jealousy is when you become protective over something you have because you fear someone else is going to take it away from you. There was no jealousy here.
I think Rachel wanted to be accepted by Cheryl. She would always try with her but Cherl would always try to knock her down. At the end of the movie, Rachel revealed that she always looked up to her and respected the fact that she was able to make things happen on her own. While Cheryl resented the fact that Rachel didnt have to figure things out on her own , she had support. So maybe Cheryl was Jealous of Rachel for having the help she didnt have. But great point about her sticking with Lonnie. I think she didnt want to divorce him because it would be like she failed and she would be in the same boat as Rachel with a failed marraige.
One thing I’ll say about this channel is every time I watch a movie now I want your background music playing along with it 😂 happy holidays boo. Thank you for filling my home with laughter and entertainment ❤❤
Not me missing this video yesterday! So I’ve also never heard/seen this movie before. I really like the checklist that you created checking off the typical themes found in Black Christmas movies. This was a good review! And I like Mo’Nique’s character with her delulu but funny self! Kimberly Elise’s characters will forever have a violent streak as well as Gabrielle Union characters having that strong willed black woman streak. A common theme I have noticed is how a few of the characters were still living in the past (good and bad). In Lonnie’s case, he definitely was a shell of his former self and of course someone younger will hype him up. Rachel’s daughter was definitely the adult out of the two. Did she seem a little grown to you? She kind of did to me. I need to watch more Christmas movies other than Home Alone which is my forever fave! Can’t wait to see what next movie you’ll review next year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
