    For anyone that will inevitably ask, this is all satire. I started with Freedom 1 and like all the MH games I've played.

    • @prizrenbucpapaj869
      @prizrenbucpapaj869 2 года назад +44

      Freedom 1 still the #1 of my heart. I loved it when it was more of a "hunting and gathering simulator" than the boss rush that it is now. The world more nice and alive than ever before, but feels at the same time so dead because it does not reward the interaction with it.
      Oh you need some food and materials to sustain your life and hunting?
      Just go to the argosy or whatever item multiplication mechanic, no need to put a foot ever outside but for the bossrush.
      I liked the slow playstyle of the old games. The world is fast enough, it's nice to slow down from time to time and not have all your needs fulfilled all the time.
      It's the unavailability of things that makes things interesting, that stimulates the discourse and interaction with the world. Everything else are dead relations.
      The "Quality of Life" - argument is worth shit.
      And yeah I like the new Monster Hunter games too, but I'm getting from game to game more tired of the Bossrush- Formula. In the end they could just call it a day and put the Monster in the Arena and forget about the maps, since they obviously arent a relevant part of the game loop anymore.
      They could bring some games in the old formula again instead of just investing all the time in this.
      Yeah it got the game a bigger community and everything - but was it worth it?

      @@prizrenbucpapaj869 Game about hunting monsters has too much monster hunting for a guy who admits he'd rather be playing a gathering simulator.
      There's plenty of them, go have fun instead of writing dissertations on how you want a realism simulator.

    • @prizrenbucpapaj869
      @prizrenbucpapaj869 2 года назад +24

      @@hakageryu307 yeah that's also quite a worn out response to my kind of argument, nearly as worn out as the "quality of life" response. " The game is called 'Monster Hunter' so it can't have too much emphasis on boss fights.
      Yes. Yes it can. Because it diminishes the variety and facets of activity of the gameloop it once had.
      Yes it is called Monster Hunter. Guess what, the content of a game can nonetheless be more complex than just what its title would imply.
      And guess another thing. Yeah its called Monster Hunter. But how much do you really hunt anymore. How much do you need to interact with the world anymore, so that you get to the monster and best it. Last time I checked hunting ment more than just runnig up to monster and kill it.
      We who started the franchise before MHW, maybe as early as Gen1&2 were sold on this Monster Hunter where you had variety, as you got to gather and you got to hunt and you got to fight the monster. We have kept the franchise going until it reached the masses with World.
      Now we see how the franchise strays more and more from what defined MH for us. And that's ok. It's not like we don't like the new games. We still buy them, we still play them and support the franchise and have fun with them for what they are.
      But is too much asked that there should be something like a parallel line of the franchise that keeps the formula going?
      And then you can keep your boss rush games as long and as much as you want. Maybe they take as I said the maps away and put them in Arena only, so that you can "hunt" as fast and as much as you want.

      Rise is the easiest of the MonHun titles I've played by far. Even Sunbreak's endgame was about on part with high rank for the other games. A lot of it has to do with monster movesets being unable to punish sloppy hunters due to the wirebug moves. Very hard to cart in Rise/Sunbreak because you can bounce away or just counter so many moves.
      Fun game, but definitely on the weaker side in a lot of ways.

      @prolevelcallout4597 Год назад +280

      @@blackhammer5035I wouldn’t say having an expanded moveset makes it a “weaker” entry. I agree it’s easier than older MH games, but the older games were mainly more difficult because of certain tedious movements for collecting, carving, eating, sharpening, etc. also hit boxes weren’t as advanced as they are now. I do love a good challenge, but I see MHR as more of a Character Action game because of how freely you can move around now, and it’s not a bad thing. I understand some diehard fans will see an evolution in design and mechanics as a bad thing because they don’t like change from the tradition. But that doesn’t make the entry weak in any means.

      @Tylor1ace Год назад +98

      @@prolevelcallout4597 also got to take into account that we are starting to get real good at hunting monsters, new move sets don’t mean much if you don’t use them, monsters have way more health then they did in past games because we as players have grown so much, for genuinely new MH hunters, magnamalo solo and solo apex hunts probably feel like a lot like the old walls we use to hit

      @mrsanguini5819 Год назад +50

      @@prolevelcallout4597 While I do agree that those points don’t make it a weaker entry by any means, MHWI maintains a high standard of challenge still by matching up the capabilities of the monsters with that of the hunters, despite not being one of the older, “clunkier” games.
      While I don’t totally blame Rise for not being able to keep monsters at pace with the Hunters, you can’t say it’s strictly due to improved mechanics or QoL when Iceborne exists.

      They will bring over the overhauled core mechanic idea to 6th gen MH, but its gonna b different enough.
      Since almost every entry has one or two unique thing(s) to it, tht doesnt come back in the next entry.
      The soft reboot from 4th to 5th gen changed the focus from Hunting Prep to Weapon Combos, as well a shift away from Utility/Offensive mixture skill focus in meta to almost purely of Offensive.

Some of my fondest memories of Monster Hunter were the times I met new people and we would just sit and talk for hours without even fighting anything. That's gone now. Players nowadays rather just finish a quest as soon as possible and move onto the next without a word.

    Having played nonstop 3ds games plus Iceborne for 2 years before I got the Switch games, I was surprised when I didn't think GU was that great of an upgrade to base Gen, and that Rise (which I got after Allmother) was a substantial and very enjoyable game(yes, I was a Longsword and Dual Blades main). Dunno, I did plenty of stuff in GU, did the new deviants, actually wound up never really repeating those beyond Elderfrost, got me Jho Ceana armour, repelled W.Fatalis but couldn't be bothered to finally kill it, never did your G hyper metal raths or your further G deviants. Not sure if it was entirely burnout or it was a genuine 'no, I've literally just done this, and I'm more comfortable using a 3ds, why not just play those games?'. Maybe it could've been avoided with more unique stuff, but, GU is probably an incredible game for those without 3ds's and might be their optimal way to experience the journey that I did on 3ds.

      I'm the same way about Gen. Was too young to care about meta sets back then, and Toka armor was really cool to unlock. Farming trunkspines for Elderfrost's lance was a pain, and all GU really added was Jho Ceana and a new way for LS and HBG to dominate the meta. Still, extra content is extra content, and the only downgrade was Prowlers being nerfed to the point of making some hunts impossible solo.
      Edit: Wanted to add that solo Fatties was a pain, and I never cared to do it with lance. Only way I slayed all 3 was with aerial DB (didn't bother farming more juice and I had already ran out, but it wasn't necessary). Most weapons can't even hit the head 50% of the time without aerial style, and you have to be glued to Fatty's face for most of the hunt if you actually want to kill it. Never had as hard of a time learning a fight in MH.

And the head, admittedly, sometimes, or the chest, but really do strive to hit the tail more than you think using your sword mode, or the hips, either works but I mean if you're far away or need to recharge your sword, it's damage all the same. My ranking of the games I've played:
    Stories 1: Good game, made mostly obsolete by its successor though
    GU: My first of the old world games! The massive pool of content and thriving online community are its big positives. The beginning is INCREDIBLY slow though. Also just not a fan of big celebration titles for the most part :p
    Rise: Mostly just a fun game to pick up and play. I'm sure Covid played a part in its lack of content, but it's also just WAY too easy.
    Stories 2: A worthy successor. Gorgeous game with a fantastic premise. The best pokemon game out there, and it's made by Capcom.
    Sunbreak: An upgrade to Rise in every way. That being said, I'm just not a huge fan of the portable games tbh. I really value immersion and the mainline games deliver on that in spades.
    3U: My favorite old world title, I doubt even 4U or FU will take its place once I play them. Underwater is way too cool, and absolutely must come back in gen 6. Also I'm glad Lagi didn't come back for Rise, it NEEDS underwater to be good.
    Iceborne: I switch back and forth between this and the base game. The best endgame in the series, a great roster, a massive truckload of content, and ofc, Fatalis becoming the best fight in the series to cap it all off. The only things bringing it down are the clutch claw and the lesser focus on ecology compared to World.
    World: There's nothing like your first MH game. You go into it expecting it to be something it's not, be it Dark Souls or DMC or a hunting sim or whatever. You get frustrated, quit, and inevitably try again. And then you spiral into playing it for whole days because the combat is so deep, the environments so rich and the monsters so personable. This game is truly magical, and despite being able to see all its flaws more clearly now (those weapon designs OH MY GOD CAPCOM WHY), I love it to death.

      I quite enjoyed base Rise save for it’s endgame bits (rampages were novel but no fun to grind and Apexes missed the mark) but Sunbreak is a massive step up especially in the endgame, build making is a treat, the grind is a great balance of challenge and repeatability and more’s coming this month lol. And of course all the new and returning monsters are the best in the game imo. Honestly sunbreak is pretty nearly a 10/10 for me whereas base Rise was like a solid 7.

    • @Benri05
      @Benri05 2 года назад +1

      Sunbreak didn't have a chance to improve anything over base Rise since it was so dry in content/endgame and tons of features scrapped like Rampages and Apexes, the expansion pretty much fixed and added the needed features that should've been in the base game. Iceborne on the other hand, had a solid foundation to build upon with the features of World like augmenting, sieges, investigations, festival/seasonal events etc.

    • @rathalomaniac6212
      @rathalomaniac6212 Год назад

      @@moonnis4608 Dos has a real-time day-night cycle with seasons that update as you play the game. Certain quests will only be available during certain seasons, and certain items and monsters would only show up during the day or night. It was very important to take stock of what you needed and to plan out your hunting sessions according to what was available at the time. It also has a system for helping villagers with requests similar to what they did with 4U and onward, except these requests would be generated at random and would often be pretty involved. Completing them would help the village expand its facilities (including the quest counter), and NPCs would treat you to meals if you helped them enough. There were also a wandering merchant tied into the request system, so you were heavily incentivized to help out villagers whenever you could.
      It's an amazing game even today, and I'd highly encourage anyone interested in the history of Monster Hunter to try it out. I played it last year on PCSX2, and I loved it.
