Jay Murthy This the kinda shit players always talk about. I bet even the Piston team mates would agree with Ron on the shit they have to go through with the fans and crowds. I hear Charles Barkley and others talk about it all the time. That's why later on in the playoffs Rasheed Wallace was laughing with on of the Pacer players. I think it was Jermaine O'neal.

Ron was so in the right. People just think they can treat athletes like shit, but it's not even just that in this case. Just like Ron said, words are one thing, this dude cold threw a drink at another man, just because he was beating his team. Just goes to show basketball fans won't ever appreciate that they're closer to the action than in any other sport, they'll only see it as a means to interfere...

If I remember correctly, he was suspended the rest of the season. That sort of pisses me off considering the fans were the ones who started it. He should of been suspended but only like 5 or 10 games. wtf those fans was a bunch of punks that night and I feel like the players took most of the fall for it. I bet u not one damn fan even got arrested in that

    • @raindance74

+KING GWAUPPO BMV A few fans did get arrested. If this went to court and Ron told a judge, "This guy threw a bar cup at me, and so I ran over punced him, but I punched the wrong guy, than the whole place exploded" who is the judge going to side with?

KING GWAUPPO BMV think about it the fans are the one paying to watch the game so the NBA commissioner at the time made that decision to keep fans happy it's all about the money 5 to 10 games suspension would have been more fair in Europe if a fan disrespects a player the fan gets arrested

My dad likes to tell me the story about when he was a young man in the 70's, when he was at a Pistons home game against the Milwaukee Bucks back when they had Lew Alcindor. Detroit had a white player who fell into the stands under the basket during play, and this old black man with a cane hit him as hard as he could with the cane multiple times. This was a display of prejudice by the black fan. The white player did not retaliate.
I'm not trying to make a point about black/white issues here. I'm only saying that to me, Ron Artest sounds like a big baby in this interview. Oh, the fan started it, boo who. Be a man about it, don't be giving all these excuses.

@DrewisBallerrr i've seen the video, and I think he woulda fought under different circumstances. The Pacers were well on their way to a pretty big win, and Wallace overreacted to a foul. Artest was in no way at all heated, why would he wanna fight?
Now you watch this video, he said himself if it was handled differently, he probably owulda fought Wallace, but the refs acted quick, and he was still thinking basketball. It's different when a fan throws something at you, way different

Ron Artest took something small like beer in the eye, and made it a huge brawl. He beat up the wrong person and messed up the whole game. He lost himself and his teammates involved a lot of money. This is also why the NBA stopped associating with hip hop as much after this. the game would have gone on, and he shoulda used that aggression on the court.

This is a prime example of a person who lacks maturity, lacks intelligence, and is prone to violent, criminal behaviors. The people who spend their entire lives in and out of prison have one big thing in common, they never take responsibility for their actions. It's always someone else's fault. A guy robs a gas station and shoots the man behind the register will say he should have given him the money faster. Ron Artest blames the fan, blames security, blames Wallace, and the entire city of Detroit... Blames everyone except Ron Artest. He is lucky he has talent and can play in the NBA to keep him off the streets, otherwise he'd be nothing, spending most of his life behind bars.

Hingle McCringleberry Oh whatever you douche. If someone throws a beer at your face, you have the right to fight them. Ben Wallace overreacted when he pushed him, the fan was WAY out of line for throwing the beer at him, and Detroit is a ghetto ass city. His excuses are legitimate. Surely Ron shouldn't have fought the fan since he is a paid entertainer, but I don't really blame him.

He said it in the video. He was not looking to get ejected and was waiting for Big Ben to get ejected. Had he known that the refs were not going to eject Ben then he would have just fought back. Regardless of what everyone might say about him he was trying to do the right thing and let the officials handle it.

Two years before the brawl, Detroit center Ben Wallace had won the Defensive Player of the Year Award, 2 years in a row. Then, Ron Artest won the award and Wallace was very jealous. Wallace is a punk who started the whole incident because of his jealousy and he couldn't take a hard foul by Artest. That Pacer team was just plain sick. They clearly would have won the NBA title that year as they destroyed the Pistons that night.

I remember watching this game when it went down. It was just all wrong. The fan who threw the beer. Ron Artest's reaction. Ron Artest was just in a heated situation, the guy threw his beer, Artest saw red and went after him. He should have shrugged it off but it's hard sometimes. Especially with some of these guys with hard gangsta' mentalities. Like the Pacer that went in the stands and starting blasting people in the face surrounding Artest. Just a bad day.

I don't blame him for going in the stands. Some group of fans at any game think that they can do anything to the athletes just because it is so many of them. Plus the guy that threw the bottle was drunk anyway so he probably would have thrown the bottle even if he wasn't lying on the table. It probably hurt too. But I bet you nobody will throw anything at this man again.

@Tazzarinaa probably, but dont forget where Artest comes from too. He's defenitely been in his share of fights, and probably would give Wallace a good fight. Remember Wallace is only 2 inches taller than him

What Ron did was disrespectful. Ben committed a foul on Artest and accidentally got him on the head. Artest then warned Wallace that he was gonna retaliate by purposely doing the same thing, and he did. It doesn't take 4 eyes to see what Artest did when he committed the foul. He purposely hit Wallace in the back of the head.

I'm not calling it a flagrent or anything, but the left forearm swing to Ben's head was unnecessary. He could've easily fouled without using his left hand. Artest was obviously trying to retaliate.
Yeah, those fans were extremely disgraceful towards the Pacers. Especially when the Pacers were trying to get in the tunnel. Uncalled for.
