HunIvan the racism and specifically antisemitism in that comment section is very telling. Every now and then I start to think that racism isn’t as big of a problem as the media wants us to believe and then I see things like that and I’m shocked at how blatant people still are with their bigotry.

@@arthritisankle There are only a few such people. They have only darkness in their eyes, so see only darkness. They have no faith, and spread fear about everything that doesn't perfectly align with how they imagine the world should be. It's not that they are wrong either. It's how they, like so many on "social" media, go looking for the negatives (which are always, always there), and then go "see, this guy is a fraud", when anyone with a shred of Christ in him knows that by that method, we should all just hold our lips shut. They are just using this tactic to spread their own agenda, which might or might not have a good point to it. They can't accept that different people can be honest and see things differently, so everyones a shill who doesn't align with them.

Beautiful speech Mr. Pageau. Thank you for your contributions. I am a 23 year old who grew up in secular America and I must admit that Jordan Peterson introduced me to the Bible for the very first time. I was an atheist 3 years ago, then an agnostic and just two months ago I was baptized into Jesus Christ's holy Eastern Orthodox church. God bless you Jonathan, I will pray for you.

@@youssefsammouh501 Apostolic succession is the thing that got it narrowed down to either Roman Catholics or Orthodox. The protestant world is so fractured and confused, that I was wondering for about a year which church to even go to first. It seemed hopeless. But once I learned about apostolic succession it made sense to me. Then I walked into an Orthodox church during the Sunday liturgy and was moved by it deeply. Started doing a bit more research, learned about the great schism and decided that Orthodoxy had the best case and the most beautiful traditions.
To me the only real choice is between the Roman Church and the Orthodox church. Protestants are totally cut off from their history, they are not part of Christ's mystical body.

Then I heard Peterson and his articulate defense of religion and his invitation to take my cross and live by those stories and my life Is complete, I will defend my faith thanks to people like you and Dr. Peterson, I will be forever glad Man anda thankfull... Wow just wow! It's fascinating to see how maybe and finally people want meaning in there lives. Been struggling with that thought, I grew up where if you have meaning you miss the mark, but the hollowness and emptiness I've had is so dark that one shouldn't stay there. The thought though "why care about a world that doesn't care for itself" still rings in my ears. It's a constant battle meaning vs emptiness.... Jordan Peterson after reading his book brought back some light, once finished my youngest sister died randomly, she went to bed like any other day and never woke up, that day will always live within me, I remember though if I hadn't watched Jordan Petersons lectures and read his book, I probably would have killed myself, and she was one of 5 funerals I had to go to in 2017. My sister was the one who told me about him, as if preparing me for the day she would die. I don't know, felt compelled to write this after your reading of your paper good sir...God bless and thank you for your thoughts.

I think he's earnestly honouring the stories, and using his intellect and heart to fathom a truth that he can fully integrate as a whole without having to consciously defend as artifice.
I think he is seeking integrity, a religion based on a leap is not an option for him, he needs to build a path, a road to the straightest gates, else he will be judged to have fallen short of his potential - by himself and his god.

I have said many times that Target and Walmart are like ancient Greece or Rome where you have aisles of "Marvel" gods or "Star Wars" gods or whatever. We decorate our homes with them and advertise which temple we worship at on our cars and with out t-shirts. We see others of the same clan in public and feel a kinship. But what you say here is exactly the reality of that. It is false and shallow and missing the fullness of The Story. One of the major things that made my wife (and family, and friends) say, "There may be something to this Orthodox thing," as I was journeying into The Church was that my surroundings changed. Indeed my stories changed. My home is now full of the Saints, not the Starks, or the Stormtroopers. I am not denouncing anyone who still can enjoy those things. In fact I have been "picking up" things now and then as I can that I can enjoy with a clean conscience. Things not tied to past sins or selfishness but definitely in the realms of those myths I enjoy. Like Lord of the Rings, DUNE, and The Expanse. (Books) But for me the change has been as big of a shift as leaving the temple of Artemis and becoming a Christian.

Many people mistake Odin's actions as being motivated by personal ambition (myself included at one point); there are books that propose him as a god of the left hand path. But if you read his story, it appears that actually, Odin does what he does all in preparation for Ragnarok. And this is essentially Peterson's message: sort yourself out and prepare for the flood or it will be worse when the day comes.
Notice on the Day of Ragnarok that Odin rides to face chaos personified in the wolf Fenrir, as does his son Thor, when he faces the Midgard Serpent. This too is a Peterson lesson, in always being brave in the face of Danger. Both Odin and Thor perish in Ragnarok, but due to their heroic actions, other gods in the linage survive.
The fact is, while different Christian and Jewish parties try to urge Peterson into their boats, I believe his spirit is Odinic and not Christian.

Hi Jonathan, I'm a fan of your work, watch most of your videos, and am Orthodox, so please don't take this as me being a troll, but please consider the letter sent to you by Michael Witcoff about Jordan.
I don't know exactly what's in it, but I can guess, and I'm fairly certain he's coming from a good intention. As I understand he was hoping you would give it to Jordan, because even then it seemed Jordan was in a bad place or at least heading there.
The ending of this essay of yours says it best, I think, it highlights the fundamental problem. Keep up the great work and good luck with the comic!

Professor Kermit reconnected me with human history. I'm a child of this century, was born and raised an atheist, but there he stood, on the threshold between this world and another, or between ideology and the real world, and he showed me the way, like you guys talked about in the Metaphysics of Pepe video.

Just started the video. I don't know that you and Peterson are that far apart with Peterson's idea of the "Psychological Significance of the Bible".
Breakdown these words and essentially what you get is the Logos (logical) of the Soul (psyche) and its meaning (significance) as it relates to the Bible.
In any case, the gap between you two is narrowing. At least in my mind/heart.

    • @JAMESKOURTIDES
      @JAMESKOURTIDES 4 года назад +1

@Ryan McMorrow yes. I was breaking down the etymology of "Psychological"
Better way would of been the manifestation of the truth of the soul.

very interesting article, I love and admire yours and Jordan Peterson's ideas and work. However, I might be wrong, but I think all the Christ stories you mentioned had existed thousands of years before Christ, such as ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian mythologies from which the stories of Christ have likely emerged from. The same as current pop-culture stories being a continuation of Christian storied and other ancient threads of wisdom and truth. I don't know, what do you think?

My favorite part of the essay is @5:58. “...,That story.” Yes, that story cannot be ignored. No matter how hard we may try to, it will reassert itself because that story is the pattern of reality itself!
