- "I think we had had an enormous trauma happen to us. In the form of World War 2. It was a hellish war. Not all of us went into combat. I did not. Nor did I claim to. But I came damn close to it." [William Styron]
One of the most beautiful writers ever to have lived 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for posting this -- It's great to hear him speak.
Hello
Styron is correct on Hemingway’s writing being one of the last changes in American prose. Hemingway’s style of prose-terse, simple, yet substantially powerful-was unlike any in the time of his life. We have many writers-mccarthy, mailer-who use his style and mold it into their own. There are vestiges.
the real prophets and artists are rarely known
I do not know the name of the person interviewing my Godfather in this clip but how DARE he talk OVER the great William Styron like he was some junkyard dog?????
@tottenhamjake He's in the TV market. He has to keep the show going at a certain pace. Dead air for dead heads who watch TV need constant stimulation.
This is what Charlie Rose does all the time with everyone he interviews. It is very irritating.
