    I studied his short story "A&P" at university..he was such a wonderful writer. RIP John Updike.

    I would have loved to chat with him at the local library table..he's a rare jewel found far and few these days..we miss you Updike.

      the swedes don't have any real writers or artists themselves, so are completely unqualified for judging such a thing.

    when he says that ernest hemingway was a priest, well i thought that was brilliant and agree one hundred percent. hemingway's voice in his writing is so prolific and holy and measures up to christ.

    To me, there's something about Johns - Steinbeck, Updike, Williams. My holy trinity. In that order, as well. But then there's Jerome JOHN Garcia who hovers way above all other Johns.

    He should be remembered for the Rabbit tetralogy, Roger's Version and the short stories. The poems are surprisingly naff.

    Updike is not a favorite author of mine. Catch Patricia Lockwood's essay on Updike in the London Review of Books. It is excellent.
