I love Updike. Every one of his novels is a slam dunk for me.
I miss Mr. Updike so much.
I remember when I finished Rabbit At Rest I began sobbing uncontrollably. In the four books I had been through so much with Harry Angstrom, and I believe that Mr. Updike's catharsis was transferred to me the reader. No work of art has affected me as deeply as the Rabbit tetralogy.
well, my friend, that is what a good intentioned author longs to hear. all the lonlieness and drudgery, doubts and frustration - the great writer is only supported ultimately by touching your heart. so, I hope John can hear that. god bless you.
@@terrenceolivido741 God bless you and your insightful understanding of being a writer, and John Updike was just the greatest writer ever.
I have read this huge volume twice now, and look forward to reading it again in the future. Best writer of the English language!
This man should've won the Nobel prize.
My favorite writer of all time.
What a writer. What an original mind.
Pulitzer Prize winning ARTHUR John Updike!
Glad to hear he most enjoyed writing 'Rabbit is Rich'!
When I heard him say that I just thought “yep, makes sense!”
@@RoamingTofu Yeah, esp. the scene where Rabbit was poking through Webb & Cindy's bedroom.....
I really really liked Skeeter in "Rabbit Redux". Totally insane.
I'm behind, just started reading his work. I like.
Wonderful.
i just want to collapse listening to Updike in this interview. while his prose is unique and astonishing in style, it might be hard - for me - to put him in timeless writers. however, his enormous kindness and work for writers of his time and his caring beyond just himself ... well, so yes, he will never be rightly forgotten nor denied his place in the history of English literature. an extremely kind kind man. incredibly ... politics is mentioned here. he supports Bill Clinton as president ... all politics aside, Clinton was estimated to have the highest I.Q. of all past presidents. i think that estimate was correct. i DO believe in intelligence, but i largely characterize good intelligence as " spiritual " intelligence.
A great American writer ✨✨✨💫
Does he ever talk about The Widow? A series of questions and answers... nobody seems to know about it...
Widows of Eastwick? Published decades after this interview.
And crap anyway.
who is the interviewer: brilliant!
Guessing you're kidding but oh boy............you don't want to know.....
I miss Charlie.
So do I so very much. Just another disappointment in test of character though.
You miss a sexual harasser?
He was a Hack
@@f.m.m6706 Yes.
@@f.m.m6706 ...BAH!...Show me a list of most of the people you admire and I'll point out faults as bad - or worse - than Rose's.
I have just finished "Run, Rabbit, run" and I want to ask if I'm the only one who deeply hates Harry Angstrom
It’s Rabbit, Run.
the way he treats women is obscene. But I dont' think we're supposed to like him in order to enjoy the book
Goddamn
He should have stopped after Rabbit At Rest and finished on a career high.
Why don’t Yanks let people speak when they conduct interviews?
Yeah, Rose interrupts Updike when U. is finishing a sentence. I'll be generous and say it's b/c Rose is pressed for time....
Anyone who does that in the U.K. doesn’t last long in the job.
@@jonharrison9222 really?
From my observation Americans are just generally more informal. Rose appears to view it as a conversation first and an interview second.
Rose is a terrible interviewer. I've seen kids on RUclips better at the craft
rabbit, run was trash
Alrighty
