I've just finished this kit. A lot of the railings and finer detail did require a bit of tidying, but not too bad. The fit of the railings on the conning tower was very fiddly, as were other railings on the deck. They all got done, but were a real pain. Just not as painful as the photo-etched parts that I added.
Great job, I did the same kit a few years back. The points you made regarding flash and fiddly bits were the same for me. I built a few a submarines from Zvezda and Hobbyboss which I found excellent. They even supplied photo etch.
I got the kit today, it seems that the flash has been greatly reduced, only 2 or 3 pieces have notable amounts of it. However, fitting the deck pieces was a real pain, the center one was warped (shrinking?) so I had to fiddle with it. The bow deck piece had a messed up point so I had to cut and sand it till it fit. It's still not perfect and it's lost the hole for the bow rail thing. It's my first model and I'll be hand painting it with a brush (seems fun to me). Overall I'm satisfied for what I paid for it.
@@pfsmodellingprojects Indeed. I think the sad reality is that most of their cheaper products are going to be sold in stores like Müller, where someone will buy a kit for their kid or as a present and it never gets assembled. And someone who does put it together is probably an amateur and won't think much of it or bother posting about it. So they can get away with it forever. Very sad as there is some incredible detail present, such as the step and wooden planking on the inside of the conning tower. How they got all these little things right is beyond me, the only preserved Typ VII is U-995, which is a different variant with many small but notable differences, especially on the conning tower.
Excellent job, im susbscribed. I have built this as its first tooling; as you said, 2007. And it was better quality then, regarding flash and plastic quality. For this tooling, they actually removed 1 small sprue with parts for a late version conning tower.
Nicely done MR P , we got off to a good start, but like you say it all went down hill on the detail parts . The new format is great ,keep it going . I have the full range of the revell aqua paints ,thay are very thick but once thinned down work great airbrush or hand paint . All the best Martin 👍
Das Boot is an excellent movie/miniseries. I’m happy to see that there is a model to commemorate Das Boot. Revell needs to improve their QC.
Am currently building the kit and the flash problems have been pretty much sorted.

Superb sub, great job...and impressive deck details indeed!👍
Thank's for the positive feedback..

Revells quality control is shocking but then again your happy with the outcome, so that's all that counts

Thanks Martin for your feedback regarding the format, yeah I was surprised the Revell paints thinned down using isopropanol.
Nice cave you got 👍
Thank's, it gets me away from the misses 🙂

The swastika thing is because revell is a German company and in Germany swastika's are forbidden by law.
