    I think all of this should be used as a component of more than 50000 hard drives.

    I have never seen anything like this...I had no idea gold would turn into something that looks like mud, then back into gold again via chemistry. I thought you were just gonna melt the stuff you strained, which was cool enough in itself. You're a regular alchemist!

    Nice to watch a clear and concise method. I guess if you have the right chemicals and equipment this can reap some rewards. Depends on the purity outcome I suppose. This may sound stupid but when you had chemically removed the tiny gold strips at the very beginning 04:10 could you not just throw those gold strips straight into the crucible?

    • @kreecha4409
      @kreecha4409 5 лет назад +6

      At that point they are gold alloys, low purity not really worth much, the following steps are leaching and solvent extraction steps which remove all the impurities chemically, i may be wrong but when he puts it in the crucible i believe the gold is in an oxide form and he is simply reducing it to pure gold.

    things to think about..
    1) cost of chemicals
    2) obtain-ability of said chemicals.
    3) cost of the forge and the crucible used
    4) cost of the scrap parts being used.
    just a thought, this should be noted and then subducted in its process.

    • @9753flyer
      @9753flyer 5 лет назад +3

      1) The chemicals used are VERY cheap... to do this size batch probably cost him about $30
      2) None are prohibited and can be purchased at any local chemical supply house
      3) unknown but a little research on ebay shows them to be sub 5k in cost
      4) Free.... you can dumpster dive for thrown out computer parts or in many many cases make deals with companies to recycle their old computers/parts... for which the company gets a tax write off
      When you figure that the 1 nugget he showed is worth approx. $3500... I call that profitable after the 2nd nugget.

      Chris Ingram
      Obviously you did not understand my point. As you can see from the video (if you have noticed of course) the metal fragments that are stuck on the magnet are not that easy to remove by hand. Neither tweezers. Obviously.
      If you wrap the magnet with cling film or another membrane you can prevent them from sticking onto the magnet and thus you can remove the cling film, which will then remove most of the bits stuck on the magnet. Clean magnet at the end? I guess.

    Nice to see your extraction process in its entirety .... so the last 1/2 of the video was doing basically the same thing as the first, but just in smaller quantity/containers? Why not collect/produce the sediment completely then melt it all at once? So the sediment was basically pure gold and you just melted it? Or does the melting process burn off something in the sediment? Be interesting in seeing the Redux equations to understand the chemical reactions happening.

    We once did this in school and we recycled like 7 old phones and got gold worth like 0.1€ or less. To mention most of the gases that look brown are highly dangerous to humans. They are a chemical result of acids mixed with metals or plastic. You won’t get much gold if you try this as modern phones don’t have a lot of gold. Selling copper cables is much more efficient.

    You can put the hydrochloric directly in with the foils and then slowly add Nitric to create the aqua regia. The nitric you add will get used up as it puts gold into solution. When the reaction slows, add a bit more nitric. Keep going till all the gold foils are in solution. Premixing aqua regia will often result in excess nitric in solution.
