I’m very nostalgic for this game. Was gifted this by a family friend of my parents for either Christmas of 1989 or June of 1990 (may have been a bday gift) as a 5 or 6 year old. The music is seared into my memory. I never even watched Top Gun until 2019. Doesn’t matter. This is what I think of when I hear Top Gun. Not my favorite NES game, but definitely on my nostalgic NES games hall of fame, and I won’t ever part with it. I love it.
Nothing like shooting down countless number of MiG-31 Foxhound throughout the game, then shooting down Tu-160 Blackjack, Mi-24 Hind helicopter, then the Buran space shuttle all in 1 game. My favorite childhood NES flight sim. 😆😆👍

You can not imagine the look on my face when facing "Black Jack" the giant bomber thing, and you just shot it down by hitting the four engines. You can shoot the wings and tail wings too and always did that when I played this as a kid.😂😂😂💀 I never thought to just shoot the engines. That would have saved so many frustrating play throughs.😂
As a kid I found this game much easier than the first one. It was awesome to do a roll on the NES. I mean obviously it wasn’t as spectacular as Afterburner in the arcades, but still. It was something. I also loved the animation for riding the elevator up for the launch sequence. It was just so cool!
Easier? How hard was the first one I wonder then Jesus. I barely managed to pass the 1st stage, barely ever landed the ship, only had a glimpse of second stage... Games friggin hard! I was 6-7. Now playing on Miyoo Mini+ and it's still friggin hard! (Not using save states)

Second Mission looks like it improved upon it tenfold...maybe minus the cockpit. I really liked the OG's cockpit UI better...it looked more realistic, SM's looks more futuristic.

Once again, Konami absolutely nails a licensed game. I loved the first Top Gun game, but this is so much better on *every* level.
