You didn't think they could make the game any harder or shorter but they did.
I originally thought it would be impossible with how fast everything moves and how many missles they fire at you but I managed to finally complete this helluva game. -

I remember playing this as a kid thinking that landing was the hardest thing possible lol! When I finally landed me and my brothers went through the roof! This brings back memories before bills and taxes to when everything was possible!

I grew up with this game as a kid. Damn hard but once I finally made it to the end it felt so damn satisfying! The plane landing took me forever to figure out too, lol.

I always got game over, when I met the trees, so I never finished this game.

This brings me back to my days of flying the F-4 Phantom during Nam and shooting missiles out of the sky during a dogfight.

"Black Jack is in reach! Blast it out of the sky!" First time I played this part, I was blown away. The music, sound and overall presentation is amazing. The shaky controls due to engine back blast just adds to the epic moment.

I never made it to the space shuttle, think I only beat the helicopter twice. Could never understand why I couldn't just fly over the trees.

I've landed the plane exactly 3 times. LOL,But I don't really play Top gun very often. Top Gun 2 looks much better than the first one.

A variation of the Konami works on controller 1.
Up, Down, Left, Right, B, A, Start at the title screen. A sound will play to confirm it worked. You'll start with 9 extra lives instead of 2.
There's a code that's well known that works on controller 2.
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start at the title screen. You'll hear a sound to confirm and whenever you gain 20,000 points you'll get 3 extra lives.

its really dark and can sometimes make you feel like in a dangerous journey deep in space

Never could wrap my head around why a jet pilot would want to fly into a forest instead of over it.
JackOfAllRAIDs personally I'm more concerned on why anyone would fly through a LIGHTNING STORM.
When i played this and landed at 7 years old. I thought i was going to be an aviation pilot. Lol
I was 8 years old at that time and experienced my 1st stressful gaming experience LOL
I just realized that I have never seen level 2. We always stopped after either landing or crashing at the carrier in level 1

as a kid every Friday we would go to rent movies and a game from the video rental store this was one of the games I rented
Imagine if mission briefings were that specific: "Find and destroy enemy weapons"
This game fixed a lot, if not all, of the first game's problems. The near-complete lack of music has been fixed with an awesome soundtrack, the landing sequences are easier, there's no midair refueling, and the action is much more intense! I dare say I like this game.
Also, if you haven't heard Stone McKnuckle's remix of the first stage theme, go listen to it right now!

My father. A USAF pilot could not land on the carrier, or his pilot friends or any of us kids. Turns out the directions were completely wrong (1st game), and the game was broken on that but. Still was a crazy game, and thank God ace combat came out 7 years later.
Or maybe your father was not that good piloting fighters as he thought 😂 just kidding
All you did was match the altitude and speed it told you at the bottom, with the numbers on the left... it wasn't broken at all. XD
The one good thing about this game, to me, was its music. After all, what's not to love with the sweet ass bass sampling on some of the in-game tracks? :)

I used to play this with my older brother. One of us would move the rocking chair back and forth to simulate the ships' movements! Fun times.
This is clearly the best flight sim game ever made.
The audio is amazing in this game. I heve this game and the player in this video is badass, the game is very hard.

Top Gun: The Second Mission was actually not bad. It was sharper and faster, with better graphics, and a totally awesome 2 player mode. Love or hate the first one all you want, but Top Gun: the Second Mission is totally awesome.
I couldn't help it. I think the best longplays on this channel are the ones featuring games the AVGN has reviewed.

You could make your plane fly as slow as 512 mph then it was easier. You had to speed up and slow down a certain way.

The level of detail is almost on par with Digital Combat Simulator.

In both parts of the TOP GUN you break someone's space programme.
...But in the second part, at least they were able to launch his spaceship.
If it werent for its difficult, this game would be easily one of the best for the console.
You also have split screen deathmatch! I dont think there´s other NES game that do that.

I'm really dissapointed that this game is just a cult classic, I mean, this is one of the best flying games on NES, with Laser Invasion on tie.

I’m 17 and i absolutely love Gameboy and nes games! I love the graphics and the colors. I prefer playing older games, let alone on my Xbox 360 (because of all the gaming memories as younger) Honestly I’m not even fond of the new Ps5… The only cool thing is the fact that miles morales is here and a new Spider man game is on the way🤷🏽
Going back and playing these games today I cant pass any levels. That why IMO old school gamers are the best gamers ever.
I love both Top Gun games for the NES; I don't care what people say against them.

Yeah, the ace leading to the laser part was as far as I got as a kid. Then I'd switch back to Super C, or Guerilla War, or Iron Tank instead. lol

The enemy planes in the game appear to be MiG-31 (NATO codename "Foxhound"), a highly capable interceptor still in service today long after the Tomcat flew off into the sunset in 2005 or 2006.
Considering what they had to work with, Games were awesome back in the day.

My brain can't understand how this game is possible on the nes.
This makes me wish we'd had Top Gun 3: The Third Mission or Top Gun 4: The Fourth Mission.

I got an NES and a bunch of games on a garage sale for 2 bucks ( i got lucky!) and this is my favorite.

Hey now! Maverick just flew through a lightning storm and a meteor shower at high altitude to destroy a space shuttle equipped with sci-fi laser cannons, so cut the poor guy some slack since he no doubt forgot to taxi off to the side after such a stressful mission. 😆
Never figured out how to play this as a kid.
I had the original Top Gun game for the NES and I was good at it but I never got the chance to get this one. But after seeing it on RUclips I think I prefer the original version more.
