They know each other very well, they’re from the same village south of Bucharest called Clejani and many of them are probably relatives. The “lautari” (approx translation “minstrels”) is a hundreds of years old job in the Romanian countryside. These lautari play at weddings, anniversaries, baptisms and any type of celebration every weekend all their lives. Playing is like breathing for them. My grandpa used to call the lautari in his village every year for an impromptu concert in his courtyard on St Mary’s day - his name was Marin, and in the countryside name days were more important than birthdays, literally everyone was named after a saint for protection. As for how authentic their music is, they were discovered in the late 80s by an ethnomusicologist from the Village Museum in Bucharest. She organized their first recordings for the museum. The music they play is literally thousands of years old. That’s why the other people from the Balkans recognize the sound, rhythm and the instruments. It all goes back to our common heritage from ancient times. It’s real powerful stuff. ❤🎻

Same here. I was thinking "we're in America, stop it". I love it now and two of my four kids love it. Thinking about it, it's the two that look Gypsy like me that like it.
So intensely gripping and joyful it makes me feel like laughing out loud just for an emotional release of the energy. Holy crap, how beautiful is this music!
This was my father’s favourite music. He passed away a few weeks back. There was no reason for him to ever come across this music, we are in India, but discover it he did…
Wonderful fact about tzigane music from the balkans ... the people that play it originates from india, they are called tziganes, rom people, travel people or gypsies. These people are travelling artists and performers that made it to Europe from India centuries ago. I guess this is why your dad, god bless him, was so attracted to this music, as it shares many similarities with indian raggas and virtuosity . Cheers.
Commiserations for your dad's passing... Gypsy/Romani music shares many similarities with Jewish Klezmer music of the Eastern-European Jews. It's so soulful and zestful. Faster and "happier" than the Jewish music... It also has many similarities to Balkan music, a bit with Greek music, some Turkish and Persian aspects to it, and Armenian/Georgian as well... And there is much in Arabic music that is also shared with certain sounds and instruments. It shows you how connected we all are, culturally, genetically and musically.
This takes "virtuoso" to a different level. I am at the beginning of an exploration of Balkan music ever since a short trip to Bulgaria last May. I feel like I've "come home" in some way. 'Utterly brilliant' is an understatement. Thank you.
Simply wonderful..... and in the black and white superb photography..... these gentlemen are the embodiment of gypsy music...... thank you so much. I’m going to listen again and again. Miss Jenny
woooow... I love it. It finished exactly when I finished eating my meal; and music played also while cooking, so it was so exact and so lovely! Love all this music from that part of the world.

Great music! I am Romanian born (and this group probably speaks speaks both Romanian and Gypsy languages) and I confirm that these “lautari” have music in their veins! They usually don’t do notes, they just play for people’s enjoyment and for money! We hope their kids and grandkids continue their musical journey through time!

Those songs in uneven bars (7/8 or 5/8) and 4/4 with emphasis on the first note make balkan music so hauntingly beautiful. Romania is famous for it ( Maria Tanase, Faramita Lambru but mostly the lautari like these guys) but you will find equally beautiful music in Albania, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Hungary. Here are some youtube/google search terms: tambal (cymbalom), lautari/lautareste, taraf de Clejani, tarful haiducilor, Dona Dumitru Siminica, vioara (violin), fanfare ciocarlia ( brass from Romania)

I’ve been listening to a lot of Django Reinhardt lately. I’m getting hooked on gypsy music. Considering these guys were never schooled musicians the music they produced is outstanding.
I keep coming back to listen to this awesome music! I don't care if the musicians are Gypsy or Romanian, they are virtuosos and brilliant, every one of them! I don't believe that they"stole" the music from Romanians; Gypsies have a tendency to adopt the music of the people among whom they live and contribute to it. I have a Hungarian background and we appreciate the Hungarian Gypsy bands. In Spain they adopted flamenco, a mixture of different folk music. So what matters is the beauty of the music and the people who produced it!
+youcanfoolmeonce The gypsies created European music, they brought in the arab rebab and the persian ancestor to the hammer dulcimer the santoor, ie the ancestors of both the violin and the piano, the elements of classical music from rajasthan india. they brought in couple's dances which was banned in medieval europe by the church as immoral but grew during the renaissance to become among others the ancestor of hungarian popular music best preserved today in Kalotaszeg Transylvania. What we think of gypsies adopting local cultures in fact was professional musicians playing in local weddings in the local style far more skillfully than locals and over the centuries it's been proven that their original contribution to european music far exceeded all other european traditions combined in its importance which includes all classical music that wouldn't even exist without its gypsy origins. Gypsies frankly possess the most important musical tradition on the planet without them there would be no classical music nor rockn roll or flamenco or tango.
Great deal of information hereunder! I must have lived, in a very ancient life amongst these people - the vibrations are so moving! Pure artists and THEY SMILE......Congratulations for the post.Thks

***** You're obviously a dumb-ass. There is no doubt a distinct beautiful Romani style no matter what language or what region it is sung in. The Romani's have given a lot to the world of music, with many famous Romani musicians around the world. Djelem, Djelem for example is one of the most done songs the world over. As for their identity no doubt they do assimilate into other cultures, but doesn't the whole world.
***** The correct term has always been Romani, it's just that dumb ignorant racists can't accept it. The Romani refer to themselves as Roma and always have. As for your hatred, you really should seek help from a psychiatrist. It is sad that you should feel the way that you do. Don't forget that unfortunately there are racists out there who feel about Romanians just the way that you feel about the Romani. I've certainly heard a few jokes making fun of Romanians and Poles, about how dumb they are. Personally I don't like racist jokes but they are out there and they demean Romanians. It is not right, just like your hatred towards others is not right.
***** WOW!! You've really gone schizo. I don't believe your "Victoria Beckham" story as you would most likely not even have stopped to talk to the little girl. You're just making this story up. As for you having a Bachelor Degree in Economics, I also doubt this as you do not converse in a manner fit for a well educated person. I think that you are a sham. As for stealing, just consider the Nicloae Ceausescu episode, that should give you lots of insight into why Romanians do not have a good image anywhere in the world. And now Goodbye ! as you are not worth having a discussion with.

Thank you beautiful musicians-------- from Oklahoma, USA! I honor you!
That was absolutely the most incredible compilation of Gypsy music on the tube I've seen yet. This music should be placed in our human history forever. Those Blokes are the best full stop.
A rectification not gypsy music, but fiddle music. It is a difference from heaven to earth. From the interpreter, I think that half are of Gypsy ethnicity, the rest are Romanian.
Am citit aici multe opinii. Un lucru sa fie clar. Muzica asta e muzică populară din Balcani si nu muzică tiganească. O gasesti in România, Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania si in unele locuri si in Grecia, dar in fiecare țară sunt amprentele culturii muzicale specifice. Interpretii de multe ori sunt romi si e firesc, pentru ca muzica e talentul lor principal.

What you hear here is a compilation of music called "lautareasca", Romanian folk and musical talent of some gypsies who learned music from authentic Romanian lute players. Superlative combination and mixing that comes from ancient times with origins in the Carpathians, from both sides... I used to hate when my grandparents blasted this type of music day and night when I was a young kid but now I realize this music is beautiful!
It is perhaps to "complicated" and intriguing for childrens ears, so you are probably not alone in that experience.
NEBUNO, FRUMOASO, REGINA. 💯❤️👍🇷🇴
everyone hated this when they were kids now when we get old we realize how good it actually is
My mother played records of the Great Enrico Caruso and Country Hank Williams. I didn't appreciate them, either.
This remains one of the best music videos on YT. I keep coming back for more!
Now i feel realy silly with my violin.
Great stuff, thank you so mucho!!

This performance blows me away every time!

This was my father’s favourite music. He passed away a few weeks back. There was no reason for him to ever come across this music, we are in India, but discover it he did…
ty for sharing , youre dad sounds like a ton of fun
It shows you how connected we all are, culturally, genetically and musically.
this has some similarity to Zydeco French Creole music it is the sort of music people play to share passion & joy.
I am sorry for your loss.
This takes "virtuoso" to a different level. I am at the beginning of an exploration of Balkan music ever since a short trip to Bulgaria last May. I feel like I've "come home" in some way.
'Utterly brilliant' is an understatement.
Thank you.
HOLY WOW... 5:40 - this guy is amazing on that violin. I can't stop rewinding to watch him.
Caliu. He is older now, but still performing

Crazy. He hits all the notes with precision at that speed.

woooow... I love it. It finished exactly when I finished eating my meal; and music played also while cooking, so it was so exact and so lovely! Love all this music from that part of the world.

Beautiful Oltenian music influences. By far the best music ever hearded 💯 the best one. Rhythmically and melodically on top. I really love it. 👍
This music is the most beautiful music i have heard in a long time. it makes me dance and smile everytime :))
Preciosa musica gitana
Great music! I am Romanian born (and this group probably speaks speaks both Romanian and Gypsy languages) and I confirm that these “lautari” have music in their veins! They usually don’t do notes, they just play for people’s enjoyment and for money!
We hope their kids and grandkids continue their musical journey through time!
I only found out a few years ago I am of Romanian heritage. I was adopted and never knew for 55 yrs. My biological grandparents were from Romania.
This just oozes culture. So real and raw and direct. Fantastic performance!
Amazing musicianship with a nonchalant delivery. The sound flows through them and each demonstrate a level of genius.
These guys are great. RUclips suggested them because I listen to a lot of gypsy music. These guys are the real thing.
Heard them in London twice in 90s 2000s best gigs ever they have got it all!! Total uncool enthusiasm and excitement.
The smile on the guys face at the beginning... he knows he is a bad ass

Bei allen " Hin und Her"! Ob man diese Art von Musik mag oder nicht. Diese Menschen "verstehen" Ihr Handwerk!! Besser als manch andere, die ich mir im TV oder Radio anhören muss!!👍
No doubt these are some of the best musicians in the world. Playing riffs in perfect unison in odd time signatures. Incredible.
Best are Pandelescu, Zamfir , Copacinschi Emy Drăgoi etc.
Indeed, they are all individual amazing and collectively greater. Great example of that at 36:38 when they all kick off together.

You're obviously a dumb-ass.
