I really would have lost a lot of money if I would have bet on whether or not I would enjoy this show as much as I do. I truly was worried I would think this show would be dumb. HOLY CRAP was I wrong!

Supposedly the reason Saitama failed the written exam was because his answer to defeating villains and stopping crime was literally just "punch them". Another question: what do you do if you find a lost item like a wallet with money, and Saitama answers "I'd keep the money and leave the wallet where i found it” lol

Never realises Saitam was the reason the Hero Association existed because of saving the brat. Also Snake Bite Sneck is one of my favorites.

You then find out that THAT KID is the one with the butt chin💀 and "That Passerby" is indeed Saitama from (EP #1) So if you put it this way, Saitama is the very first hero who is responsible for the creation of the Hero Association😌

23:40 I was waiting for this scene to come on! I can't explain why but i really love this line. "Did you bring a toothbrush?" Sounds so simple and unremarkable. But it gives this story a very... Homely vibe. That even though Saitama is one of the strongest being in the world, he is still human. It sounds like something we ask our relatives or friends when they come over. It gives such a personal, familiar feeling which i just cannot explain. But i love it so much. I'm so glad the writer put that line in there.

And when Saitama and Genos were talking about the founder of the hero association, that founder is the grandfather of the "ballsack" child Saitama rescued in the first episode. Just look at the photo of him lol
Yes. Saitama literally was the first hero in the world. He actually started all this.
OPM is really a show that brings a different dinamic to certain familiar tropes. Having an "unbeatable main character" flips on its head all the tension that is normally built, leaving a lot of room to discuss everything else that might come up.
A lot of people end up developing resentment towards this show for having a character JUST BE like this out of seemingly nowhere, while all the other shows have lengthy archs of power build up and they would just get rolled by Saitama. But THAT IS THE POINT, he exists to serve another purpose other than to be a shonen MC, and as you watch these first few episodes go by, that becomes more and more clear, yet, he still resides in a world that is very shonen like in nature, so you wonder "what could this be building up towards... Saitama is just unbeatable so there isn't a point to keep powerscaling, or is there?"
When I started following it, I didn't believe this concept could be carried out very far, felt like it could only work for a short season and all the bases could be touched, and now so many years later, chapters are still coming out regularly and still feels fresh. I guess I just had a mind closed to worlds worth of potential and never even thought about.

Youre really right! OPM is the first anime I've actually followed cuz it simply so different than the typical animes plot. It really interesting for me.
Well, Saitama vs Cosmic Garou manga arc gave the impression Saitama finally found something to match his power scaling. It's now only when will the animation be made to feel what that level of fight looks!

Neat fact or theory i guess (no spoilers): When Genos is describing the origin of the hero association, they talk about the episode where Saitama fights the crab monster so the hero association and Saitama share the same origin story. (Big Chin Brat = Grandson of millionaire)

yep, also when they look at the photo of that millionaire during that scene, he has the same big chin. Kinda sad they didn't catch it, but one punch man is full of connections, easter eggs and all kinds of small things in the background
Fun fact, the grandchild of the man that started the hero association was the butt chin child that saitama saved from crab guy. He inadvertently started the whole gig

@@RoflCannon6 yeah, the studio didn't give suiryu justice, his scenes are so awesome in the manga even if he's not part of the crew and probably won't see him again after season 2.
@@clyder46 Studio was changed to JC staff for S2 , season 1 was by made by Studio Madhouse one of the biggest studios at that time(not only that) it was full fledged industry passion project,so many top tier freelance animators worked on S1 of OPM and in-house staff of Madhouse was also pretty good.
And JC staff on other hand have limited animators and they didn't even get any freelancers.
So I can't blame any Studio for this.
Btw, that last bit when Saitama fought Genos, he actually punched hard enough for the shockwave of his punch to level a mountain, but also ran fast enough to run in front of his own shockwave to save Genos. Remember the title card said 'Death' when Saitama threw his punch, indicating the punch would have definitely killed Genos.

A little detail I noticed is when Genos tells Saitama that the Hero association began 3 years ago after the benefactors grandson was saved by someone, Saitama is holding a piece of paper about the explanation and on it is a picture of (I presume) the benefactor and he has a HUGE chin like the kid from episode one. I believe that means that Saitama inadvertently started the hero association!
I’m sure people are talking about it, but In the scene talking about the hero association backstory, in the folder their looking at is the founder who claims his son was saved by a passerby. If you look closely the owner/CEO has a butt chin, just like the one Saitama saved, so that would mean saitama is the reason the hero association exists.

Genos says that 3 years ago some passerby saved a rich man's child from a monster, which led to the man forming and funding the hero association. 3 years ago, Saitama had his first fight where he saved the big chinned brat from Crablante. Saitama is the reason the whole hero system started and he was ignored by the bureaucrats for 3 years before being put in the lowest class of heroes. Rip
Yup, you got it. The series is as much a satire than anything else, so Genos getting the popularity while Saitama getting looked down on despite being the most powerful man ever is a thing. Despite a few moments, gotta admire Saitama for staying true as a hero as you will eventually see.

The punch machine part is a reference to Vegeta from Dragon ball z. In the episode everyone holds back on the punching machine until Vegeta comes along and just destroys it with a punch.
He doesn't kill humans he really holds back.

Many people miss some details on this episode. "The founder of the Hero Association is the grandfather of the big chin brat that Saitama saved in episode 1". Saitama was the main reason why the association was build. The big chin brat told the story to his grandfather.
My former boss from work looks exactly like Saitama.

I assume you've probably heard this already but if you like this you're gonna absolutely love mob psycho 100! it's made by the same guy who made one punch man, ONE. the original story for OPM is a webcomic,the anime follows the redrawn manga version by legendary manga artist Yusuke Murata which diverges from the base webcomic alot. Mob Psycho is a full adaption of the original webcomic (all 3 seasons cover the entire story) I don't wanna give too much away but mob is one of THE best coming of age stories I've ever read/watched, so glad I grew up with this as a teenager. it's got absolutely everything, some of the best fight scenes you'll ever seen in anime, S tier hype episodes, The comedy is gutbusting at times, super wholesome and heartbreaking story beats, I couldn't praise a story any higher, you're going to absolutely love it,trust 🌈

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Love this show. Waiting for more seasons. So glad u got into it too. It's very unique concept but now there are more shows like this. But this one has a good story. Like it's written really well compared to the others. Ok, so this is a parody anime. The writers throw in so many anime into this it's kinda fun to see what u can spot. This part was fun. This is coming from an Asian who grew up living and breathing tests: if you're good at them, be wary that they may not mean future success; if you're bad at them, understand that they simply failed to capture the things you're good at. Success in life depends more on understanding yourself and putting your strengths to use.
