    Thanks for that TMF. I love the Triumph triple engine, so balanced & torquey. I know several people with the sport or the old 1050 tiger and everyone loves them. You've had your leg over more things since Christmas than Tom Jones did in his prime. Keep it up (as it were), & enjoy the escape from the rat race! Well done!!!!

    Great vid! Funny you should pick the motor as #1. This is exactly why I bought my Tiger ABS back in '14. The motor is 2nd to none. I like the rest of the bike but the motor is what makes it. When the weather is good I put the truck away and use the Tiger exclusively.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад

      Yeah it is a lovely motor isn't it Jim - just the right balance of power, low grunt and sound...what Triumph does best IMO! (oh, that and retros...) (...and street triples.....).....

    I rented one of these last July for three weeks to tour the UK and agree with everything you mentioned, spot on. I think they already had an aftermarket pipe on it though and it did sound excellent. One thing I didn't like was the right hand pannier being smaller because of the high pipe. Would have to consider one of these when the venerable TDM finally needs replacing.

    Nice review TMF and whilst I haven't owned one, from my ride experiences on this bike, I think you've pretty much nailed the top five attributes. I've recently sold on my Multistrada 1200S due primarily to it's high ownership costs and overly complex nature, from switch gear to key fob (keyless start etc). I love the 1050 Sport and would've bought one if I found one in that same colour combo for the right price. Here in 'Straya' second hand prices have held up nicely for the model and I simply didn't want to pay 13 or 14 grand for a lowish mileage example. I'm a bit of a Yamaha nutter though and was able to find a v low mileage MT-09 Tracer 900 still under warranty for under $10K which suited me down to the ground. It has plenty of go also and is extremely frugal (

      Same sort of bike liker here tracer 9gt or tracer 900 or tiger sport 1050. Have to wait for the 9gt and found a tiger 1050 last week. Testride it and bought it. Will go for testride the yamaha 9gt ( just to know how that will feel) but don't know if it will work out without lowering it. I am a woman and many seat heights are too high for example the bmw 1000xr, 👍 definitely will have fun for years on my 1050 😊

    Couldn't agree more if I tried. Once I discovered Triumph and then drilled down to the Tiger my touring and even daily commuting adventures are a pleasure. The bike is stable and forgiving yet urges you to go fast when the conditions allow. I can do 600 plus kilometre days and am still able to do more if required. On my third Triumph and second Tiger with 200K plus km under the belt and won't be changing bikes anytime in the foreseeable future.

    Great review TMF. I bought one in July 2016 and still absolutely love it. I've got my usual three year itch for a new bike at the moment and test rode a KTM 1090 recently which is a great bike but I still prefer the Triumph triple engine on the Sport. I've used it for two up touring in France and Spain, commuting and having fun on B roads and it just works beautifully. It's such a perfect all rounder and I can't find anything out there that is better.

I might get a cruise control, but living in the amazing state of Tasmania, where its about 350 from top to bottom of the Island its not really necessary, just a nice to have. I am so pleased you like the Tiger Sport so much. I have the 2014 model and I really like it but I have been looking at other bikes that I might want to swap it for. But now you have given it a positive review (and you have ridden so many other great bikes) it has reassured me that I should just keep it.

    Good review. My last post I said I had ordered a 2017 V Strom. I since looked into the Triumph and found the Tiger Sport is not available in Canada so that kind of settles me with the V Strom which I,m sure will be great.

    I have this bike and I agree totally with your top 5: they were the reason why I bought this bike and not another one. Handling is amazing, engine is pure poetry, look is stunning (indeed I have the very same bike of the tested one) and even the fuel consumption is good.
    I had to put a higher touring screen because the stock one is not enough when speed is over 45/50 mph (more or less 70 km/h).
    Last point, I would like to change the stock pipe because I don't like that damn whistle, the Tiger Sport has the most annoying one in my opinion, but I would check even if something more can be done working on airbox because I hear that someone was able to almost completely "cancel" the whistle working on it.

    I think having cruise control buttons on the right hand is common to all the Triumphs so equipped, in fairness to this model. Otherwise the instrumentation generally is the one really "dated" aspect of this bike (and the Tiger 800). Also, I think the standard seat height at 830mm (which I don't think is adjustable?) is still a challenge for anyone of less than 33" inside leg measurement, irrespective of his/her overall height.

      John Scholten The amount of touring options the States offers, plus the the types of riding this bike was made for make it an ideal match. Th trouble is for Triumph I guess is that most US riders would opt for a cruiser.

    Great video. I've had one since November last year after to trading in from my long term 2008 1050 Speed Triple. I agree with almost everything you say (but maybe in a different order!). Absolutely loved my triple but now needing to cover longer distances so need screen/luggage etc so good compromise I think. I'm 6'3 and its still relatively comfy (all bikes are a compromise unless you are average everything) with buffeting acceptable with good plugs. The only issue I have with it is the electronic throttle. Is it me or is it damn twitchy? I find it tricky to keep stable especially on bumpy roads

      TheMissendenFlyer: I can't say I've ever ridden a Tiger, I'm the same height as you, they just look a bit daunting, as in a bit tall for me. The speed was ok, but I found it a bit heavy to manoeuvre, so I swopped it for a Daytona, then a Street, which is spot on for my needs, and talent!

    Interesting for me as I had the old 1050 and loved it. From your comments they have obviously tweeked the handling in a good way but I wish they would update the controls and that fairing insert. It still appears to be a fill-in model as if they don't feel it's got a role in the future? I don't think they have succesfully joined the GS alike market with their bigger bike. Perhaps the 950 Multistrada will prove that this class of ike has a future?

    Ahh that cruise control, I like it as I've mentioned before,
    but setting it is a nightmare, first press the "engage" button followed by the "Set" button, nothing happens, but now my speed has dropped, try again but try pushing the Engage button a bit longer, still nothing but now even slower, try once more, this time success but set speed has to now be set to my original point, still once it's set it does work very well, a Triumph it seems.

      Depends on the circumstances.....if you said I could have this or my GS now, I'd keep the GS....mainly because of all the extra's I've added to make it my own (and the doozy GPS integration). If a Tiger could have a modern instrument panel with integrated GPS I'd seriously consider it over the GS. The Tiger is certainly better £ for £ value. IIIRC you didn't like the Tiger Sport much did you??

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, so was I... I got that from a lot of people when I released my review. It doesn't look like Triumph think it will sell over there so it isn't going there... Someone could of course import it but then that's a fair bit more money and effort.

    I have to say the switch gear layout is really dated given the competition. Having the mode buttons on the dash near the clocks is not good for safety, imho they should be on the handle bar switch gear as BMW, but I guess Triumph want to keep their production costs down and yet stupidly it wouldn't cost them that much to upgrade to something more modern and may even mean they sell more bikes ...... But as you say the triple engine is a gem. I think if I were going to buy another new bike and it was a Triumph I'd be looking at something a bit different a bit more uptodate such as the new Street Triple RS. Seems Triumph have put much more time and cash into this model than the Tiger Sport, pity as it does look OK.
    But MF is it better than the KTM 1290 Supeduke R? I possibly think not, but it is no doubt a lot cheaper.
    Thanks for posting.

    • @UnknownProdrive
      @UnknownProdrive 7 лет назад

      Alex Morgan The Sport is a nice bike no doubt but to compare it to a top end naked like the 1290R is unfair. I don't think Triumph even have anything in their range to compete with the Duke. Perhaps the Speed Triple. Even that feels underpowered and no match for the 1290. Cheers.

    • @alexmorgan3435
      @alexmorgan3435 7 лет назад

      The comparison is not unfair in the slightest. The Speed Triple is a totally different bike to the Duke and the Tiger Sport. For a start the engine is pretty much half or one third the capacity of both.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад

      Cheers Alex - as SD1 said this just doesn't compare with the Super Duke R - different sort of bike altogether, but no less great at the job it does (comfy touring)...as you say, shame it doesn't get a bit more of an update in the instrument department - a TFT dash couldn't cost thaaaat much to add could it??
