    You've gotten really rather good at these bike reviews, actually there are very few(if any) who do the job better! Thanks for sharing this.
    cheers

    splendid bike. Hate the outdated display though.

      Yes shame that - the one thing that is screaming for a further update (although this one is much more comprehensive than on the previous models like my old '09 example)....

    TMF you have become an invaluable asset to the RUclips community with your reviews, please don't stop I agree with everyone else on here. My impression of this bike (without ever riding it) - my prejudice should I say - is that it is a bike that has been deliberately kept out dated by triumph, presumably because they don't want it to eat from the explorer's sales if they do too much in the way of shaft drive or tft screens.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the kind words Jacob....and there may be some truth in what you say, I for one waaaay prefer this bike over the Explorer...even without TFT and shaft drive...

    • @jacobporter4623
      @jacobporter4623 7 лет назад

      TheMissendenFlyer (personally having ridden neither but really loving the idea of either the explorer or super tenere for my daily) I'm probably doing it a disservice, what it is about this bike that makes it preferable to the explorer for you?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад +4

      It's more agile, it carries it's weight better (lower - doesn't feel like it wants to topple all the time), engine is more grunty, looks better, isn't a copy of a BMW......need I go on?

      s1000xr and ducati 1200 are better quality, performance ETC

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад +1

      +Darrell They are certainly much more expensive and having ridden both (and being an owner of a modern Ducati and BMW) I would disagree that the Triumph quality is any less - in fact you could make a case for the opposite these days...but of course it's all opinion so I can't disagree with yours :0) Thanks for watching - TMF.

    I rode the tiger 800 couple of weeks ago. I must say it was a nice experience. I only sit on the tiger 1050... but I like the bike so much, I hope to do a test ride one of these days. After 2 days back on my street triple it was very weird how fast I get used to the tiger 800. If my bike wasn't new, I would go for the tiger 1050.

    Another great review TMF, really like the way you review a bike and appreciate all the time and effort you must put into the finished article. I have a 2015 version of this bike in metallic black. It doesn't have all the electronics the 2016 onward bikes have but it is still a great machine to ride, and living in rural France, pretty rare. keep up the good work!

    Hi TMF, agree with everything you say; I took one out in October when my own Tiger 800 was in for a service and I thought it was fabulous. As you say, you just open the throttle and the grin appears on your face; I loved riding it. Look forward to your comments after you've had it a while; what a splendid relationship you have with Triumph😃 Cheers, Andy

    Great review & bike (which is on my wish list) tmf. I would like to see a centre stand as standard due too the rear end being a single design. I do like the silver version, ;-)

    I have a 2015 Tiger Sport 1050 and it's an amazingly capable bike, it did 2000 miles around Austria last year with ease! Thank you for the Review, as sadly these are often overlooked for the smaller 800cx Tiger which I don't feel personally is as good!

    Ok, I know I’m 3 years down the line here, but: I’ve convinced myself it’s about time to replace my 2008 Triumph America which I imported from the lovely Southern Bucks to Denmark back in 2013. I’ve been looking at Versys, NC X and Tracers, but at the end of the day, I know THIS is the bike I want. I think another shipment across the North Sea is coming up... The review is still brilliant here 3 years later - thanks

    It's good to see that Triumph are rewarding you for all the hard work you have put in over several years. I wonder if KTM would do the same? Your review of the Super Duke GT was excellent. Keep up the good work. And looking forward to the review of the KTM 1290 super adventure . Here's hoping

      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you Bernie - I'm not sure what my reward is exactly, strikes me I'm the one doing the work :0) (and they aint paying me!) - I'm not complaining, I do this for fun....and the KTM crew are pretty good to me too - stay tuned for more Orange soon!

    • @berniebne8243
      @berniebne8243 7 лет назад

      Reward maybe I should have said recognition of the fact that Triumph recognise your influence in the motorcycling fraternity and believe that the long-term loan would further their business interests. Therefore the reward would be the kudos derived from that. It’s a pity you aint getting paid you deserve a wage for all the work you do (& other RUclipsrs). Far more entertaining & informative than some TV hosts I could mention. IMO.

    Another enjoyable review, looks like Triumph recognise the quality of the reviews you do. I did seriously consider buying one of these a couple of years ago but instead opted for the Versys 1000. The main reason I didn't go for the Tiger is that they retained that high exhaust that seriously compromised pannier space one side.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you banditmanUK - I like to think you're right about Triumph, either that or they know free publicity right to their target market when they see it!! Whatever, its a "win win" as I love riding the new bikes and I'm glad you're watching - cheers - TMF

    I have the exact same bike, due in for it's first service next week. I Would say your review is bang on definitely more sports then touring. I'm 5.10 and I find if I duck down just a little bit when the screen is at it's highest the turbulence almost completely goes. So a taller screen should sort it out. I have heated grips fitted and with the hand guards even riding around in freezing temperatures my hands stay nice and warm. Look forward to your updates in the coming weeks.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 лет назад

      Thanks Terry - I was blatting out and about on the bike today in a different helmet and there was less turbulence, so it's also dependent on what kit you're wearing of course....great bike though...stay tuned for more soon!

  • @unclehavoc4609
    @unclehavoc4609 2 года назад

    Nice review mate. I found if you put the screen at its lowest point it stops the turbulence around the helmet.

      Probably because every wanker this would be marketed towards would actually rather be on a true "adventure" bike whether or not they actually do any adventure riding. I always see spotless adventure bikes on the road and at stops that you know have never seen a speck of dirt let alone any rain but I'm sure the owner thinks they look badass like Ewan McGregor.........I ride a Triumph Sprint GT which they only sold for a year here in the states due to poor sales, anything Sport related that isn't a true SuperSport bike is a tough sell here in the states where the Sport Touring bike is indeed dead.

    A very nice bike. I must say it looks a lot better now. The original Tiger always was a bit so-so with me. That headlight unit just didn't sit quite right, but this one, with the development, looks great.

  • @M4BoarBiker
    @M4BoarBiker 7 лет назад

    Hi TMF, I had a test ride on one of these today and the first thing I noticed was how easy it is to ride. So very light and a absolute hoot. Plenty fast enough. The one I rode was silver but I prefer the matt black finish. It handles brilliantly plus I found it very comfortable.
    On a negative note, I don't care for the indicators. Front and rear are bulbs and the rears stick out from the number plate. The whole number plate bracket is a car crash in my opinion. Apparently a tail tidy is not a option.
    The exhaust has a nice note to it, I have been told that the arrow is quieter but I don't know for sure and at £840 for the upgrade I don't think I ever will. Haha.. I am seriously considering this bike.
    I'll look forward to your next video on this fantastic machine.

    • @itzajdmting
      @itzajdmting 7 лет назад

      TheMissendenFlyer Yeah. I mean its certainly got the get up n go, but it didn't strike me as something you'd be using excessive lean angles with..... which is why they raise the peg height further from the ground so I'm told.... To be fair, with the pegs out the way, a decent pair of tyres and a dry day, who says you couldn’t go and carve up some apexes with this machine.

    Great test as always. I love the styling of the new Sport. I tested one of the first ones in early 2007 round the moors south of Sheffield and the abiding memory is of the immense torque of the engine. Seemed like you only needed 2 gears. I do wish the bike industry would sort out the 'dashes' to be more aesthetically pleasing. The car industry has it licked; the poor Sport has plenty of space to put a decent display. Anyway thanks for the test and looking forward to the 765 when you get near one. I'll be off down the local Triumph shop in Toulouse to have a ride also!

      Agreed all round Steve - with that big space this bike could have a splendid TFT panel - would probably sell the bike on that alone (I'm a bit sad like that and would probably fall for it - especially if it had a built in sat nav)...

    Missenden Flyer, I finally took a Triumph home today. It is a 2008 Tiger 1050, like the one you had. I don’t think the new 1050 is available in America. Once again, thank you for your informative videos. I have loved Triumph ever since the first motorcycle magazine I bought when I was nine or ten. The Trident was a hot new model then. A Triumph Triple was always a dream bike for me.

    Hi mate! Interesting that you said that the seat is reasonably low! I've been told by so many people that i'd have no chance (I'm 5'6"), I'm going to have to organise a test ride. I have a 2016 Speed R, which I feel cramped on (I'm 58, & don't bend like I used to!) LOVE the Speedy, but can't get comfy, thought I'd have to go 800 XRt, but if I can reach the floor on a TS... win-win!
    Great review as always!

      simon carson. TMF although 5'8"has a long inside leg at 32", I am 6' but long in the back with probably nearer a 30" inside leg. I sat on a 2017 Tiger Sport and could only tip toe, balls of feet at best and stationary in the showroom the bike felt quite heavy? I had reservations about being stopped in traffic etc, then I came across the same year of bike with the 1" lowering kit fitted ( they are available in 1.5"& and 2" also). Both feet are firmly planted on the ground, and as a little bonus the COG is lowered slightly. You do end up with slightly less fork travel, as because the lowering kit is fitted to the rear suspension, the front requires lowering to match for balance purposes. I bought the bike and it handles beautifully, I hope you can try one out and see how it suits your leg length, another option is to shave some width and depth off of the seat. Triumph are now offering lowered versions of their new Tiger range but only on the 800, 900, and 1200, which although viable options, they are not Tiger Sport's. Good luck with your try out!!

    Very nice video as usual, dare I say it you're setting the standard for professional publications these days in terms of how well rounded your reviews are. With that said I think the Yamaha Tracer 900 sits well within reach of the Tiger and has it beat in terms of price at least. How does it compare otherwise? I've only ridden the Tracer so far and was well impressed (it won for me over the V-Strom 1000 and the Versys 1000).

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 лет назад

      Very kind of you Robert - I prefer the Tiger to the Tracer, although by most counts the Tracer is the better bike - lighter, more agile and sharp feeling....however I like the looks of the Tiger more, I like the fact it's a Triumph and I actually like the more stable less flighty ride it gives, if it were me I'd have the Tiger Sport (I used to have a Tiger 1050, that engine is a peach!)....

      Well the BMW is on paper the much better bike in terms of kit, power, etc - but personally I can't get on with the looks so would probably save a few £1000 and go for the Tiger Sport which I loved.....just something about that bike, the looks, the triple, hugely under rated machine in my view....

    Lovely looking bike. Paint work is great. I have a 2015 Versys and similar points. Awful looking can and useless screen. I bought a new screen, the original screen was worse than none at all. Versys with side panniers much much cheaper here in Canada. Great review again.

Point in fact there is a used MultiStrada for sale at local dealer . Its been there forever as no mechanics in this neck of the woods has any experience on them.

    I really wanted to change my Tiger XRx for the Sport, but I found the pegs just too high, I have trouble with my knees (old codger), and they don't like to be bent too far, that was the deal breaker for me, hence last December I changed to the GSA (following your review, you should ask for commission :-)).

    Test rode one late last year, anything over 75 MPH and the mirrors vibrate so much I couldn't see anything.
    The seat lets the bike down. Sitting forward and my groin was crushed, sitting back and the seat's pitch pushed me forward, crushing my groin area. The comfort seat was worse. After only 30 minutes I was in agony. Other blogs have also commented on the uncomfortable seat.
    A shame since the engine and handling are really superb, the bike looks great, the instrumentation works well. But groin pain rules this bike out for me.

    I own an '12 Explorer and it's a great bike but it feels a bit top heavy. I've tried the KTM 1190, i really liked the maneuverability and flickabilaty but I'd prefer a triple engine that's a bit less eager/racey. Yamaha Tracer 900's pillion footpads are too high/sporty for my wife for longer rides. She's on the bike as a pillion for only 20% of the time, so would you recommend the tiger sport as an alternative for the explorer as i will never go offroad? Well the new Tiger Sport is light years ahead of the old Tiger 1050 I had and to be honest things are much closer now, I think the Sport could do with some updating (TFT dash with built in satnav anyone?) and then it would be a very hard choice....one thing is for sure, the Triumph is much better value for money...
