    Gotta love the Triumph triples! That 1050 engine is a stonker and there are aspects about my old Tiger 1050 that I miss - the stability in corners is a joy and that seat is very comfy. Not sure about that adjustable screen though! I think it's a lovely looking machine (but that of course is entirely subjective), I do wonder why they're not more popular. All that said my BMW GS is by far a superior machine in all aspects, bar one...it's not a Triumph! ....blast those Germans!!!! Thanks for posting, looks like a lovely day for a ride......

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад +2

      It's great fun! By all accounts the BMWs are bettter handling due to the lower centre of gravity and the rugged looks seem to appeal to the average rider who likes the idea of going anywhere, but it's too exciting to actually do it... :-)
      Thanks for watching chap!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer 8 лет назад +2

      +Captain Rambunctious I prefer the looks of the Tiger....but the BMW is far better handling for sure (that low COG makes all the difference)....and it has to be said the active suspension and electronics package on the BMW is in another league compared to the big trumpet....

      Triumph reckon that the Sport is the bike that owners hang onto longest and do the most miles on. I've got one and it is the best bike bar none that I have ridden. Triumph don't make a big deal of it in their PR though, no R model etc so you have to know about it. I am waiting for the next incarnation before I even consider changing it. I'd like a low level pipe, less weight and that's about all - the rest is already perfect.

    Hi captain, I find you great to watch and very informative. I've loved the look of this new tiger sport and coveted one since they came out. Your test ride and remarks made me start looking for one in earnest. So on finding one and part exchanging my 2016 xc800 though only 10 moths old. I'm the proud father of a low mileage just twelve month old very clean example. I've actually ended up with what I've been told is the only caspian blue one factory sprayed by Triumph, not just in the country but the world. Apparently the first owner worked at Triumph.Noting what some guys have said about the colours on offer. I think this looks fab. Keep up the good work. If I can get a pic up I will

      Hi Captain I sold it last year to a friend Have since seen one other a 17 plate around here Not sure if the Triumph worker is starting up his on line.
      I found it great to ride sporty and great for seeing beyond the car infront.
      I only sold it because a mate was selling his fully kitted out RT 1200 at a good price.
      It I could have kept it I would have and would recommend a tiger sport to anyone.

    Thanks for your review sir.
    Great all rounder, Triumph don't half squeeze a lot of different bikes (adventure, naked, supersport, tourer, etc) and applications out of that triple engine. Is there a style of bike that somewhere in the range doesn't include the triple engine? Nice bike.
    Begs the question with hindsight should you have bought that instead of your 800, suppose so.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад +1

      Yes, in hindsight, I would have preferred this to my Tiger 800... HOWEVER, I prefer the Thruxton R over anything, and happy to put up with the lack of panniers etc... :-)
      Obviously, there are the classic twins and cruiser twins, but the triple is quite a remarkable engine... A nice balance of power and torque and some top end too...
      Thanks for watching and commenting! :-)

  • @nwroadrat

    I always liked this bike. It's the older pre-adventure version of the Tiger. Looks like its now been re-branded as 'sport.' They never did well over here and now discontinued, at least in coming to North America. I don't think American and Canadian riders warmed to chain maintenance when other bikes similar came with a shaft. I don't mind chains because it gets me looking at the bike and looking for other potential usage issues.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад

      I see... Are chain drives that maligned in the US then? Shaft just adds weight, after all, it's not an adventure bike.. Also, I hear quite a lot of criticism about shaft drives and splines shearing... Maybe it's just some people's preferences and they are exaggerating to get their point across?
      Either way, I reckon belt drives are the best... Especially the newer ones that are inlaid with tungsten giving them a warranty of 120,000 miles!! That's better than a cam belt! The only con of these is stones, so just stay on the tarmac! :-)
      Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)

    • @nwroadrat
      @nwroadrat 8 лет назад +1

      Chain drives are not maligned. They perform the best. But when Honda, Yamaha, BMW, etc. offer shaft drives in this class of bike, you don't have to take a can of chain lube with you on a long trip. I have to admit after riding belt drives now, that's kind of nice.

    Tally Ho CR I am interested in this as I owned one of the original ones and quite liked it before I traded it in for my GS. Really like not having to adjust a chain. Sadder sorry is my mate brought a Tiger Sport when it came out and met me at a café after owning it for an hour and dropped it in the car park Ouch thankfully we both can laugh about it now.Apparently I am on my last bike according to my wife but if I can get her to think different I might try and get a test ride myself.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад

      It's definitely worth a test ride. Much lighter and more flickable than the old tiger sport. I don't know how it compares to the GS, as I haven't yet ridden the GS, but it's definitely a step up from the old tiger sport... Yes, the chain can be a pain when you are not used to doing it, but the centre stand definitely helps.. And it would be easier to filter than the GS just due to size difference!
      Good luck and thank you for the story! Sounds like most people's worst nightmares, dropping a new bike... Better if it's just a demo bike... ;-)

      I had a 2009 non ABS, they are truly great bikes. Rode mine from UK, across France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany...and back. All weathers, 150 miles mad dash in a monsoon, 100mph for 100 miles in lashing rain. Engine just whistled away. Used for commuting and Sunday rides as well. Things to watch out for? Lights, HID or LED conversion is pretty much mandatory. Chain adjustment, if it's not bang on, that is what causes the notchy gearbox. Standard seat foam can be slimmed at the sides if you have short legs, and lowering plates are available. Lowering the bike transforms the handling. Finish is excellent, I left it outside in France in 35c heat for months, and outside of work in UK every day in rain, snow and ice. The bike looked as clean as the day I bought it when I sold it.

    Hi captain, thinking of getting the tiger sport myself.would you recommend buying this bike over say something more expensive like the multistrada or the bmw s1000xr

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад

      Um, I would like to say yes, but I haven't ridden either of the other two so I can not give you an informed opinion. By other people's reviews whom I trust, I believe the extra power of the BMW makes it a stand out favourite... But I can only advise you to test them yourself as they might all have different positions and behave very differently...
      The Tiger Sport is an excellent bike in my opinion, but I can not in all good conscience give you a definitive answer I'm afraid...
      I hope that this has helped at least a little, even if it were to just book some test rides...

      Evening Gary. I was a little underwhelmed when I rode it but as it was in January on greasy roads, I definitely didn't do it justice in hindsight... Looking back on it, it's an excellent bike and the engine is faultless... But do check that it's had the recalls over the years...

    Enjoyed that though I am starting to worry that this channel is becoming one long Ad for Triumph Bikes and is losing the fun of ride outs that used to be there.
    I hope Triumph are taking a leaf out of Honda's book and developing their engines over time rather than reinventing them every couple of years. By doing that Honda have produced some amazing engine kit that lasts for years and can take anything you can throw at them really.
    I am glad this is beakless. A beak on this would have utterly ruined the looks of it. I find the colours a little dull and boring for a Sport but that could be changed by the owner pretty easily. At least it does not look like that 1200 Triumph Thruxton R whose colour scheme was dreamed up by a 16 year old designer after a weekend on E.
    Incidently, my mate Bernie let me ride his Triumph 1200 Thruxton R for a couple of hours last Saturday. Took it up to the back roads of Biggin Hill where I could give it some welly and find her limits. She shakes her head about if you push her hard and her arse gets all out of shape but she goes like a whore on crack and handles beautifully. I felt like I was riding what I imagine Joanna Lumley would have been like in her twenties. Smooth, sophisticated, gentle, and responsive to ride but, push her up to the envelope and she becomes a snarling animal that has to be tamed firmly.
    However, the seat made my arse feel like Graham frigging Norton had been at it for half a day when I took the bike back. I finally understood why Bernie has been doing a John Wayne walk since he bought the thing.
    Watching the walk around I imagined a huge Brummie biker (for some reason) standing in a showroom having the stats read to him by an enthusiastic, skinny and tiny salesman in a suit that is far too big for him with a face full of pimples and breath that smells of garlic bread, even at 9:00am. At the end of what seems like half a day of techno waffle the Brummie looms over him and says, "Yam am good at reading like. So, does it go like fook, or what?"
    I wonder how long it will be before this comes to Triumphs: www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/motoring/honda-nc750x-motorcycle-review-3263340
