    Natural light is a must for me. What Jauz said about loosing track of time, I'm the opposite lol I hate feeling that detached from the world

      When I was in engineering school we had a 24 hour computer lab on our campus for students. I'd meet up with my teams late there and work sometimes all night. It was SO disorienting to walk out at 2am from a bright well lit room into pitch black outside then drive home...

    The older I get the more I realize that all you really need is a laptop some good headphones and an environment that inspires you.

    • @SolStateMusic

      One my favorite ways to create too! Once you can trust what you're hearing, why not create in inspiring places?!

      Some of the best mix and master engineers are now 100% in the box. As laptops get faster and more capable, I think the trend will continue. It just has too many advantages.

    I honestly mix gear and vibe. I've always invested heavily in tools/gear (and edu) first. BUT then I create in chill, visually inspiring spaces - like a hammock or nature - which cost very little.

      Main thing is production level of sounds and music. Studio can help you work with analagos. Even monitors doesn't have a big sence. More tembr , live, and true sound give you character.

    I feel like natural light in a home studio is one of those things that most producers never talk about. Maybe because it feels like a given, obvious thing that most, if not everyone will have. However, a window always contradicts the whole perfect room treatment, limited reflections etc. and its something I've always worried about. Great to know so many care much more about the vibe. That in itself is inspiring. Cheers again sol!

    • @SolStateMusic
      @SolStateMusic  3 года назад

      I think there is an expectation to sacrifice natural light for sound quality, so your room sounds perfect. But most rooms will never sound perfect, so might as well enjoy the window!

    I think you can get a lot of vibe for cheap when it comes to atmosphere. I have a plan for my home studio that will cost $2k and will be absolute fire but in the meantime, my $20 amazon lights add a ton of vibe and I've got all the plugins I need to make world class music.

  • @benkestokmusic

    you don't need a crazy ass studio to be able to make hits, but carving out a space where you can access your creativity the best can be huge

    For me (currently) it's about "gear" mainly meaning plugins that do what I want and a PC that can handle it. If I ever start bringing in more of an income through music then I'd love to get a badass environment going too, sort of like what Jauz was talking about!

  • @caml4741

    I think what ever helps you create the best is all that matters. I noticed that using colorful lights caused me to feel more relaxed as well as focused when making music. At the same time, there's such a sweet feeling about getting new gear & getting to know it, like you're taking it out on a date lol

  • @briancase6180

    I think gear is your environment. For me, minimal is what I want right now. In the box for me at this point (quality audio interface and good monitors; weighted-action, piano-like keyboard controller; fast laptop, big external display). Maybe that will change. I would love to have the black box HG-2 outboard. Opinions and preferences are good: you should know what you want and need. But we're all different. If getting blinky lights makes you feel good and feels like progress, that could be the change that keeps you in the studio, keeps you happy, and keeps you creating longer.

  • @rij2392

    IMO environment is more of a luxury then necessity, without plugins you can't make good music but without ambiance "environment" it's still possible. So for me gear"software" first then ambiance.

    My workplace is literaly the kitchen. I got a corner with minium amount of great and I love this spot. Why kitchen? I can have easy ascest to food and drinks and this is really calm place to be in the evening or night. Dimmed light, colorful things around (cabinets, fruits, tools). Yeah colorful kitchen makes me feel good and creative.

    I'd go for room treatment and then vibe. Now that I've treated my room I can listen at half the volume I used to listen at and still hear everything. My ears are a priority now. If I have money left for other shit I'd buy probably atmosphere related stuff.

  • @rafaelsantti714
    @rafaelsantti714 3 года назад

    I would say to invest 80% on gear ,20% on the "vibes", at the start you need enough gear to make high quality music, after that is easier to get some art or lights.
