Sounds more refined but before sounds better. M157 sounds hella good, all you need is a cat delete and res replaced with a H-pipe. Sounds crazy when engaging launch control.
It’s more of a cost thing. Someone who does muffler delete isn’t the person who is going to consider a catback.

I hacked up my CLS 63 AMG M156 resonator & secondary cat delete...straight pipe..... left the OE mufflers sounds great
Gotta put comparison sounds clips and the end of the videos. Overall amazing work definitely a cleaner sound. I guess most of guys in the comments. like the crappy sounds of the clapping sound.

However, to my ears, I love when this car produces cracks. I had a 2013 CLSAMG 63 and the only mod I have done was to cut the resonator out completely and put straight pipes in. Nothing else moded - stock Cats stock exhaust. It sounded awesome and produced thrilling cracks and pops.
The most important part there was no drone. It is like German engineers made that resonator easily accessible intentionally so you could remove it and truly enjoy what the AMG was supposed to sound like.
The result that you guys have gotten, I can hear the deeper tone, which I like, but I think it sounds a little too sterile for my ears, especially knowing what that engine could sound like.
However, please keep producing these videos. They’re awesome. I love to see the different results you guys get with different set ups.
The cat less exhaust sounded way better. More pops and bangs. Closer to the true expression of the engine. The turbos kill the sound any way. Straight pipe with valvetronic mufflers is the only way to live life. The gas smells good, you can hear the turbos from a block away, I can go on all day about a straight pipe. Straight pipe cold starts sound epic on that engine. But with the press of a button you can kill all the sound with the valvetronic mufflers.
Does it sound deeper? Yes... is it more refined/cleaner? Of course! But it's missing the pops/crackles that it had before, and those are usually the cherry on top to an exhaust sound that makes the hair on your arm stick up. Just my $0.02... I wonder what you guys can do to a rotary engine, I'm almost inclined to come ask you guys to do an exhaust for me 🤔
With most non renesis 13bs there isn’t much to do tbh most everything is equal length and set up for 1-2 pulse or for some fbs 1-4 pulse like maybe with dual you can tweak some things but 13bs will always pop and always have their song I think the only thing I’ve played with that changes sound significantly and worse is pacesetters uel header but in the turbo world single exit twin scroll set ups will always be perfect just gotta keep them quiet for drivability and if they can one up HKS for a streetable nice sound they can gladly take that

@@Snoopi25I don’t think you’ll ever be able to make a 2 rotor sound like a 3 rotor. It’s would be like making a v8 sound like v12, it’s just a completely different sound due to the extra exhaust.
@@chrisjosekuehl equal length header with the proper collector and sequential firing order for the collector tubes will make a V8 sound like a completely different motor. Look it up
Hacking it up is never the way to go. The 'after' sound is SO much better. And the sound from inside the car, under load? Delicious. The quality of your work is very impressive. Kudos!
I get the temptation, but no one wants your hacked up exhaust when it t comes time to sell it. Better off saving your Pennie’s up so that way you can sell and go back to stock so you’re not taking a double hit when you list it…

Looks and sounds great. However it takes away the pops and crackles that the AMG is known for. I have a 2014 CLS 63 S with catted downpipes and stock exhaust, and it sounds great. I think it sounds better than my 2019 E63S honestly.

Because it came with CATS from the factory and the owner (or someone prior) removed the CATS making the car illegal.
We do what the customer wants. Cats help prevent gas odors inside the vehicle as well

It depends what you like. It sounded alot meaner before, if your a loud car, racer type guy then 1st was better. If you want a good sound while being luxurious and sleek then the second was better

People think flutter sounds good, til they hear “Clean” in person.
“Clean”comes through a bit in video but loud doesn’t. It’s rare that exhaust is clean and loud. I wouldn’t say this one was loud but we could have gotten there with the cats deleted.

That sounds fantastic! I appreciate that your systems enhance the natural sound of the engine. Some engines naturally sound better than others, and when exhaust manufacturers try to change that, it often results in an unpleasant experience. This Mercedes sounds wonderful.
Yeah it truly makes a huge difference when your exhaust center understands the vehicle they're working with and just doesn't slap something on to make noise (or otherwise)

The first one we did we messed up back in 13. Sounded awful. Super easy to mess up we found out. Redid it and figured them and the next two out- but I still want to try and nail the Alfa Romero 8C exhaust note. We had one of those in the shop and I think I know what they did, how to make it better, and how to adapt it to the f138 GT’s

Check out our older content and Legitstreetcars Alex’s white 63 w204 from 5 years ago for an idea. We’re always learning and improving but there’s only a few things we’d change now.

Honestly I liked some of the high frequency aggression from the original system, but I agree the new system sounds great. My ears probably would have been happier if the cats were left out of the new system I think.

Benz tech here, I've heard countless 157 cars that have had every exhaust modification under the sun. I have never heard this tone from a 157 ever in my career, and its absolutely fantastic. That "paper-shredding" sound has got to be the most accurate description of a 157 I've heard before. We have a sales guy with the typical chop job on his E63 and it frankly sounds like a Harley when it goes by. Y'all actually fixed the issues I had with how these sound. Great work!

The exhaust videos are answering a lot of questions about how I’m going to do my 2019 c43 exhaust with factory PE, without endless welding and parts orders. After catless downpipes it has a nasty buzzing bee rasp at higher rpm’s. Looks like deleting the big box resonator for an x pipe, and installing some vibrant mufflers will do wonders. Would like to add some megaphones but not sure I can fit all of it without removing the factory valved mufflers that I do like a lot

To answer the question, I think it sounded better before, it's nice to have little pop and crackles, and it was abit louder too, after was abit to close to factory sound, but there was more turbos sound to it and almost sounded like a Barbus setup.

What a mercedes v8 amg needs is a smaller diameter h pipe further down the line , an miniature x pipe inside the mufflers and a j pipe/helmholtz of sorts before the mufflers tuned to the range of 1200 - 1600 rpm

Edit: I do agree with some of the other comments here that the missing pops n cracks are kind of a letdown, but that’s probably due to it now having cats.

I own a supercharged W204 C63. Long tube headers are the only change worth doing. The stock resonator is already an H pipe. Tried using an X pipe and it was horrible. Zero sound quality improvement with a near vomit inducing cabin drone. Stock resonator and stock mufflers preserve the AMG sound.

I always hated on the modern Mercedes 8 cylinders for sounding bad, this certainly changes things! It actually has a tone and a good one at that. Very clean sound.

Thing I never liked about the German sound is that it's hard and blatty, like Mopar V8s. I like cars that howl, and my favorite is the BRM V16 or a NASCAR V8.
