Trios like this are arguably the best form for jazz. Everyone shines. No thick banging and thrashing about, just smooth flowing notes. These guys are top notch.

Me too! I’m 50 and have been trying his style out for years. Popcorn man on the drums. Coltrane with Haynes and Monk with Haynes are my favorite versions of the two bands.

I traveled to Europe because of that album. The band director heard me practicing to that album for weeks and hired me for the gig. I had head phones on and he thought I was good? We’re all good playing the things we know or have memorized. Ahahaha the album was good and I was just trying to keep up. Mr Haynes is like Elvin with rudimental chops. Simply perfection.

Although iI must be fair and add that 'Bright Size Life', his 1976 debut, as well as 1999's Trio Live (w/ Larry Grenadier and Bill Stewart) as well as 2007's 'Day Trip' (w/ Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez) are great too. But 'Question and Answer' is my favorite.

At 70 years old, lifetime drummer...the more drummers I listen to all these greats ..including Buddy, I've realized that I am my favorite drummer in the world. I tend to get bored with these folks. The only two drummers I still enjoy are, Gene Krupa and Speedy Jones. Gene is Gene....and Speedy is beyond human. And please. ..don't ask me to put up a video of my skills.. cause I am very modest.

Don't really get methany playing to well. His playing is very flat and no dynamics. Other than that he I a great technician on his instrument.

If you think this is “flat and no dynamics”, seek help. To each his own, but Metheny’s dynamics on the instrument are unparalleled.
