    Falling Water is my happy place. luckily i live only an hour away. I try not to go too often for the reason Mr. Wright didnt want there to be a view of the water fall, but i dont think i could ever get tired of that house. i dream about living there.

    It is incredible and elegant house. I've always wanting to see it. Perfectly timeless! The way it sits on water and the color scheme is just alluring. I have a secret! I really want to see it since attending architecture school. Hopefully, one day

    It was a getaway home, for weekends and holidays. It was not intended for full-time residence. Though beautiful, Wright's interiors are not cozy; they aren't even comfortable. It was all about design. Sometimes furniture was bolted into the floor so owners couldn't disrupt the design. Thank goodness for the added steel; he was an architect, not an engineer. Still, he was an absolute genius.

    Did you know they installed a live cam feed? It takes pics every minute just below the falls where the path leads everyone to take pictures of the house and falls.

    In Western Pennslyvania we call this area the "Laurel Highlands".....not the Appalachian Mountains. Fallingwater is an American Jewel....and its open to the public! Its beautiful...Fallingwater should be on your top ten list of 'must see' destinations in the US.

      It freezes in the winter. When it's not frozen, white noise lulls you to sleep.

    • @zurps
      @zurps 4 года назад +10

      Really? A constant noise like this is always easily ignored by your brain. White Noise has also proven to be beneficial in falling asleep.

      I'm not sure how loud the waterfall is from inside the house, but I'd assume it's the same thing as A.C.
      Personally, I love when the A.C is on because it powers any little noises in the house that distract me. I think it's because little noises tend to vary in sound, while the a.c is all one noise, it's easier to ignore it.

      true words, dude was so picky and such a perfectionist, he made art pieces. Designed the furniture designed the window fittings everything was part of the project. I think that's what makes the difference none of it is tossed together. He was a true genius, just watch any video of someone asking him, he'll tell you.

    It wasn't designed to be a "home", but rather a "getaway"
    retreat for family and friends of the Edger Kaufman family, the very successful department store owner in Pittsburgh.
    Me, my wife and two high-school children were fortunate to visit in late October '13 it and the near by Kentuck Nob (a smaller residence).
    The surrounding settings of both merit experiencing on their own as well.

      I adore that house, but no view of the waterfall from inside would drive me crazy. One day I will visit and perhaps my opinion will change...but getting tired of looking at waterfalls or water in general seems impossible for me. I most at peace near water and trees.

    CBS needs to do a bit more research before broadcasting and editing.
    FLW did specify reinforced concrete for this home. What Kaufmann did was ask the contractor to add to his specifications which made the cantilevers heavier and not stand up as specified.
    This report makes it seem that due to Kaufmann the house still stands but it is quite the opposite. There were problems because of his distrust in the design specs.

    From what I understand it is a mosquito hell. There are bugs bothering you all the time there. Imagine living in a place, in the middle of nowhere, and you have got hungry blood sucking mosquitoes all around, and you are the only humans living out there. It must be a total misery. The house is beautiful though.

    • @macharper8214
      @macharper8214 8 лет назад

      LogicianTenderstone There is no such thing as a plant that repels mosquitoes. "Mosquito plants" are bullshit, they do not work. You need chemicals like insect repellents. The people in Central and South America are busy right now dealing with mosquito borne viruses like ZIKA now too. So, yeah, let's all go and live like they do. Great idea.
      Look, Frank L. Wright was a great architect, I am not arguing that, but he was also a bit of an impractical fool too. "Falling Water" is evidence of both.

    • @kathryntitus9647
      @kathryntitus9647 8 лет назад +2

      ever heard of citronella? THAT SAID, if you have drunk the tea that lets you believe only chemicals work, ask yourself how the human race survived without chemicals for tens of thousands of years or more (but that's forbidden anthropology for some) --and as to ZIKA, THAT IS YET ANOTHER MANMADE EXPERIMENT being performed on humans using YOUR TAX DOLLARS so some can profit and reduce the population -- there are THOUSDANDS of depopulation programs in all areas of our lives, and have been for decades. Solution? STOP HAVING SO MANY KIDS and things will balance out. But that requires true courage, so don't hold your breath.

    • @macharper8214
      @macharper8214 8 лет назад

      Kathryn Titus First of all, I would like to thank you for this crazy email. It was a ton of laughs. To answer your question, yes, I have heard of citronella. It's toxic to both pets and humans. So, its a perfect solution to ward off mosquitoes, isn't it?
      As far as your "Zika virus is a man made disease to reduce the human population" theory? Zika does not kill. It causes severe brain malformations.
      I "loved" your solution to your belief that "there are thousands of depopulation programs in all areas of our lives and have been for decades." Your solution to this was to "stop having so many kids..." That was really funny.

    • @kathryntitus9647
      @kathryntitus9647 8 лет назад +2

      i am sorry you find the looming end of the human race and the death of our planet funny, I don't -- and overpopulation is at the core of all humanity's issues and all of nature's issues. oh and btw cannabis and kudzu are just two other natural pest repellants. you can put your citronella out of reach of your pets, but then if that's too logical for you.....you can always use citronella candles and other things. I hope you find a way to perceive the broader picture of how all things fit together, be blessed.

  • @bethproverbs31

    @chas826 Even though we who live here call this the Laurel Highlands, Fallingwater IS technically in the Appalachian Basin region of the Appalachian Mountain range, so CBS was correct.

    An extremely ugly house filled with low ceilings, a lack of closet space, very pedestrian building materials, a lack of ornamentation, no view of the waterfall, disgusting red floors, and a feeling of claustrophobia. Frank Lloyd Wright and his houses sell for very little and the reason is that the world rightfully ignores his conceptions of what architecture should be.
