It’s such a pleasure to see an owner who obviously sees the house as a national treasure and a trust. I was moved by her vast knowledge of the entire history of the house and all of its inhabitants. She should be proud of her contributions and preservation not only of the house, but of its history. That house couldn’t have a better steward!
i really appreciate how the current owner recognized ALL of those who worked on the house from the smallest contractor to the most significant contractors.
Definitely. Speaking as someone who works for a general contractor, many people are kind, but that level of respect is just above and beyond what you generally see. So lovely
I thought "I'll just have a quick look at this" but nope, ended up watching the entire thing. So fascinating, what a remarkable piece of architecture. I hold so much respect for the owners for treasuring the homes history like that, absolutely phenomenal. Stunning home!
I also respect the millions and millions of dollars they spend to restore the house. I saw a documentary on it, and it was so expensive and so time-consuming. If you saw the picture of the beam with the aunt and termite damage, you could get an idea of the level of reconstruction that was required to bring the house back. It was a labor of love. Thank goodness that someone loved the house enough and had the funds to restore it.
This lady won me over with her love and appreciation of the house, and her dedication in restoring and maintaining the original features. FLW shd be pleased that the house is in such good hands. Thank you for sharing it.
Not to mention the ENORMOUS cost these folks incurred to restore this treasure. the CPI Inflation Calculator only goes back to 1913; cost to build $1,316,179. I bet they spent near that if not more to renew it. I'm glad she displayed a section of the termite damaged beams. And that was really "Old Growth" lumber that was more resistant to termites than todays farmed wood.
It strikes me that no better tribute to the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright could be found than that created by the gracious host of this fascinating film. Thank you for inviting us into your home, and for not only preserving Mr. Wright's legacy, but for creating adaptations that contemporizing this work of art in a manner that honors the brilliant original design.
This home is Magnificent. I particularly Love that the homeowner showed such reverence and respect not only for Frank Lloyd Wright’s Architecture, but also to the previous owners. So Lovely.
You have to be an OCD minimalist to pull this off. And she is.. You can tell by her refrigerator, which is insanely organized. Modernist homes are terribly unforgiving for human habitation. Leave your keys on the buffet and the entire toom is thrown off. It's not a museum because it is historic. It was built to be a museum on day one, or at least an art display piece. Visually there was never room for family photos or everyday clutter.
@@xtusvincit5230 I get the Japaneses vibe from this house... but I understand minimalism as no having more than what is essential... and I see so much superfluous stuff all over the place... I am re-watching the video and just don't see it... some decisions are just straight up anti minimalists, like the way she hide appliances in the kitchen.
This is literally one of my favorite houses. I grew up in this neighborhood as a child. I used to ride my bike over to this block ALL the time to look at this house. It's what turned me into a FLW fan, who served as a creative inspiration for much of my life. I forget how lucky I was to have lived in such a nice neighborhood. If only there wasn't sooooo much dang snow in Rochester, I'd still be living around the corner from this place. It's awesome to finally get a good look inside. And nice to know they FINALLY got rid of those windows on the porch FLW hated so much. It's so much better now than when I was a kid. Great job on the landscaping!
I too grew up there ( 70s/80s) My mother just moved back and now I get to spend some time there in summers. Other than taxes and weather, its nirvana to me! The area has improved since I was a boy. Lots of memories.
I love Frank Lloyd Wright's houses. He left a part of himself in every one. He took the time to get to know the people he was creating his masterpieces for and his designs are similar but unique at the same time. While the furniture he created for each home blended beautifully with the house, it sure doesn't look very comfortable! I wish they would show at least the master bedroom and a bathroom to finish the tours. I'm sure it's for privacy reasons, but wouldn't it be interesting to see how his genius was expressed in those rooms? The Boynton house is one of my favorites.
You just have to be so appreciative that this wonderful person not only (enthusiastically no less), cares for this house, she graciously gives tours for the fans!! What great person!
I have no idea who you are, but you deserve an award for how you've taken care of this house - you're like the curator of your own private museum - Bravo ! And thank you for sharing it with us
Thank you opening your home and sharing an awe inspiring piece of Frank Lloyd Wright history with us. He was a genius. And thank you too for preserving history in your restoration.
Gosh. I adored this man. " Without an architecture of our own, we have no soul of our own civilization." He was an environmentalist, artist, Craftsman, a phophet.
Amazing that a home built less than a decade after the Victorian era looks so modern. It looks like it was built anytime from 1955-1975, or a high concept modern home from the 80’s. The cantilevered roof is an engineering marvel.
As soon as I saw this, I HAD to watch it. The joy on your face, as you shared your FLW home with us was beautiful to see. Thank you for honoring Mr. Wright's architecture. You are absolutely the best people to have the privilege of owning and living in a Wright home. It would be wonderful to see this in person. I've been a fan of home architecture since I was a child. I have always loved the beauty of wood trim, cabinets, floors.... Mr. Wright always understood the importance of nature in our lives. You can see this your home. Your stories enriched this whole experience, and it would be honor to meet you and visit your home. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home and history. Few people will ever be able to afford a FLW home, much less live in one. It would be a dream come true to honor his legacy and live in one of his homes. Your home is a dream come true.
Current owners of these masterpieces are really just the caretakers who are entrusted to honor FLW's works and then pass them on to others who will hopefully do the same. This is true also for the owners of the Greene brothers' fabulous homes.
I want to like this a hundred times. I love it that there is a complete history of the house with all the owners and what they did to change it and how it was restored.
His thought and design truly stand the test of time! His homes were beautiful and the designs were so flowing! Hard to believe it was kept almost original over 111 years. She has every right to be the proud owner.
This is such a beautiful house, perfectly in proportion and execution. This is a very lucky & gifted owner who has really taken the trouble to research. restore and update where necessary so this gorgeous house isn't lost in the mists of time. Also very interesting to note it has its roots firmly in the arts and crafts movement that was predominant at that time across Europe and the UK as well. Such an elegant and considered form of architecture
Amazing! Every room draws you into it. It's wonderful this home has had owners that loved and valued it's history. This home is really a historical landmark. Much thanks to the delightful current owner who so graciously allowed this tour.
As a carpenter for over 40 years, I really appreciate that the craftspeople’s names are shown. We pour our hearts and souls into these projects and it’s nice that someone acknowledges that we are a significant part of the history.
Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy this home. It's truly a piece of art. My wife and I have been blessed to tour three of his homes. We first got introduced to his architecture style when our oldest attended Florida southern college in Lakeland FL.
agree with the comments...FLW one of my favourites - brilliant design and understanding of balance and harmony....love seeing this place. The owner is most generous to show it and explain it and preserve the historisity of it.
How WONDERFUL that she has kept this house so perfect and all the documents and memories have their own kind of library!! she has given this house a HUGE GIFT....Bless her.
What a delightful hostess. Thank you for preserving this work of art to perfection. What a treasure. His spirit lives on. His passion for detail and his vision is still alive through this home owner. She is obviously passionate about such perfection. What a pleasant viewing.
What great philanthropic work this is, to restore a magnificent piece of architecture to museum-quality. And then, the bonus is to be able to live in it. And then share it. Thank you.
All I can say is WOW, for the thousands that know who FLW was and some of the houses he designed this is one more for the record books. Love your home!
The man was a genius. The detail is amazing and the complexity of the structure is mind boggling. I studied architecture and it was very time consuming to design even a shitty school project and i has lots of software available to help. This dude kept it all in his head and drew it out by hand.
I love the way the owner has had the house redone to show Wright's original styling and design ideas but has given things modern uses to work with the world we live in now. What an amazing home!
So beautiful, as is the home owner with her NY accent. Anyone whom appreciates MCM, must appreciate this home. It was the shape of things to come, 50 years later. Streamlined and simple. Love it!! Grew up in Cleveland and kick myself, for never going to Fallingwater. But did make it to Tallee essen(sp?) in AZ JT
This home has a beautiful streamlined look to it from the outside. It does not look like it was built in the early 1900's. Large overhead eves that shade the inside but also let the light in with all the window's. The woman certainly has a gem of a house, an original Frank Lloyd Wright home! It is priceless. Absolutely magnificent; timeless beauty and true craftmanship that slow the effects of time because of the immense talent of FLW; and those that restored the home. Thank you for the tour and history of the house; Wish home builders and architects today; would put some of their creativity into new homes instead of mass producing a product to sell.
You can have any home design you want just as long as you have the wallet to back it up. There are some talented architects around but they, the craftsmen and the building materials don't come cheap.
@@beemrdon52 yes I agree unfortunately most people today value size over quality. As a builder I know it's possible to build a house smaller and put in a tremendous amount of quality for the same cost.
