Avi had been wanting to work with this pianist for a long time and it finally happened. They were perfect together. Avi loves bringing hope. He is sure there is a healing as he has been able to find healing for himself.
The song is perfect example that sometimes less is more. In this case, tremendously. I consider myself very lucky, that I discovered Avi Kaplan's music. It is extraordinary in many ways.
I agree - this is such a beautiful song. As others have said Daniel Ellsworth is the pianist. He played with Avi on the 'Floating On a Dream' LP and subsequently on the 'Live at Sunset Sound' ep. His playing really works well with Avi's songs.
He has such a variety of songs out, and every one speaks to the heart. The gorgeous voice goes without saying! You can catch Daniel Ellsworth, the pianist, rocking out with him on the live at Sunset Sound version of "When I'm a Fool." Burns the house down!
“I’m expecting great things”. You’re right, Avi never disappoints. I love this song, it truly is healing. And that voice! We are so lucky that Avi shares his talent with us. Please add “It knows me” (lyrics video) and “Quarter past four” to your list. Btw, the piano player par excellence is Daniel Elsworth.
Also, if you haven't yet, Change On The Rise and I'm Only Getting Started are some bangers you shouldn't miss. "The First Place I Go" also draws from that southern gospel style.
Interestingly, Avi has said that, before going into the studio to record this, he did a scratch recording of his vocal (as is typical of many artists). After doing several takes in the studio and sitting down with everyone involved, it was agreed that his raw scratch vocal was the best and so it was used. Great reaction! In terms of the song, Avi said he hopes people can have a good cry and move forward. As far as the repetitive healing vocal, I think it's more of a mantra instead of meditative. And yes, Avi's vocals are always beautiful! Cheers!
