👋We invite you to watch the 16th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, which will be fully broadcast on our 'Wieniawski Society' channel. The competition will be held between 7 and 21 Oct. 2022. Official website: competition.wieniawski.com
This was an amazing interpretation. She was the winner of the competition. She honored the 1756 Giambattista Guadagnini instrument she used in this competition. She is a star.
She does not play music - she is sharing with us what she is feeling... and this what we should call the ART. Many "million" of musician are good, great or... fantastic technically, but NO FEELINGS. There are just "handful" real VIOLIN ARTISTS. To be an ARTIST YOU NEED A SOUL - YOU HAVE TO BE BORN AN ARTIST... - like Veriko.
- Regards
George D Well said!!
That's true. The problem is that what she feels is not necessarily what Wieniawski felt, when he was composing this piece. She plays the cantelene part nicely, but she clearly lacks dynamics and explosion, this is not appassionata in her recital, but some girl's jelly or sweet dreams. Just listen to Shlomo Mintz playing the same concerto at the age of 25. That recital I bet is much closer to the original idea of the composer and up to the point as far as the character is concerned. Veriko expresses what she feels, not what Mr. Wieniawski wanted to say. Sorry, but the phrasing in many places of the first part is wrong, especially in the staccato part - it should be played much faster, with more verve and expression. Listen to young Minz - that's how this concerto should be played. But I agree: Veriko played it better than other contestants from Asia; and yet a far cry of Mr. Minz's interpretation, above all in the first part.
Love how you guys argue subjectives like fact. Artists are not born because clearly there are competitions like this that 'pick them.' They're all great but getting where they are takes real work and isn't something you're magically given.
@@musicclassic5938 With your disdain and abrupt dismissals take it you are a professional music critic. Also, your rather fantastic idea that a performer must try to recreate the feeling of the composer at the moment of composition is absurd. Did you know Tschaikovski's friend noted that at the moment of the composition of the Pathetique he seemed the happiest they had ever seen him? A depressed composer can write happy music and vice versa. Perhaps what you should have said is "intended" not "felt"?
P
I just discovered Veriko and she plays one of the best Wieniawski I've ever heard. 😍 I come here every day to listen.
bravo Veriko, not a single note passed trough, years and years of learning, many tutors and still play like yourself, bravo..
I love her playing, she has incredible intensity and musicality. Bomsori Kim's performance was also great in a different way, and draws in the audience, but this grabbed me by the collar straight away - she is fantastic musician and communicator. And she has considerable power and focus in her sound when she needs it, which is so important for a soloist in some situations.
Such rich and resonant sound of Veriko's violin playing is amazing! One of the best violinists around. Well done.
I am listening over and over again, she plays with such musical authenticity...!!!
Her own authenticity, did not render Wieniawski's idea behind this concerto. She played it better than other contestants, but a far cry of how it should be played. The closest to Wieniawski's performance is that by young Shlomo Minz, listen to it and you'll see and hear the difference
Such a great honor for Georgia and Turkey and a gift to world!!
This is probably her favorite concerto. She plays it so well it's hard to imagine a better performance!
Absolutely awesome, extremely powerful interpretation. Goosebumps all over. Thank you, Verika!!! All the best to you and congratulations!!!!!
What richness of sound! The most mature and inspired interpretation of this concerto, an apparent winner. I am in awe of this magnificent young talent! In fact, Veriko transcends her age!
The impeccable playing with accuracy and skilled technique.

Henryk Wieniawski (1835-1880)
Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 22 No. 2
1:03 - I. Allegro moderato (D minor)
13:10 - II. Romance. Andante non troppo (B-flat major)
18:14 - III.
The only one in the competition to make sense of this piece
I partly agree and still I could understand this Wieniawski concerto only after I listened its interpretation by young Shlomo Mintz. His rendition, I bet, is much-much closer to the original idea. Nobody else plays it like an appassionato.
Not true
@@musicclassic5938 It's 2 different orchestras, or at least different principal players from what I have observed. Regardless, it's more the conductor at fault than the orchestra. He interprets and shapes based on what the soloist gives and says through their playing. Kim is very much so a relaxed, technically accurate, "how beautiful and effortless can I make this sound" type of player. Romantic music has two sides really, high energy, powerful romance and beautiful, lyrical, "seranade-esque" romance, both of which are contained in this piece. I think Kim played this work extremely well, but in comparison to Veriko, she just didn't show enough contrast between the two sides of romanticism. Veriko, it seems was much less worried about technique, although it was nearly flawless anyway, and more concerned with energy, presence, and overall intent to be different than everyone else--which is the goal when performing the same piece as other participants in a competition. I think this is why she won.

@@lilytchumburidze4880 You are certainly right about the conductor and his/her mutual understanding with the soloist. Both Veriko and Kim were definitely a level above the six finalists we have listened to in 2022. And yet a benchmark performance is Shlomo Mintz with Southwest German Philharmonic orchestra. That is the only holistic performance of Wieniawski 2. Surely Asian musicians are just unable to understand Wieniawski's Jewish soul like Shlomo. Apart from absolutely fantastic intonation, Minz played it in a really virtuoso manner. His up-bow staccatos are impeccable, but what is most important is his rendering the general concept or idea, he put it all together and he showed real dynamism, even in the second movement where he uses rubato in the second part of this movement. His interpretation is real MOVEMENT, not some separately played disconnected phrases which we've listened to this year (2022). He is always one step ahead, thus leading the orchestra, he keeps moving to the climax. Most modern players just take this beautiful concert apart into loosely connected phrases.
Her vibrato is amazing! She probably quite rightly won on the sheer musical intensity of this performance despite the sometimes suspect intonation.
The best since Michael Rabin's recording. Bravo !!! Bravo !!! Bravo !!!
My God......she plays so very beautifully.
Beautiful indeed, but not passionate enough and does not quite render the composer's idea, character or phrasing properly; yet much better than other contesants. The model is Shlomo Mintz. But that was a concert performance, not part of a competition.
@@musicclassic5938 Not passionate enough???????? WOW.
Boskie! Przecudowna gra Veriko!
Deep respect for this.
Fantastic great gem of a virtuosa beautiful emotional playing... respects to this performer
Wonderful!
Many Thanks!!!

She is amazing, period.
She makes me cry every moment. I love her interpretation and musicalidad!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amazing!
Very very good tone! Amazing musician!
glorious i've died and gone to heaven
Well, both Veriko and Kim learned their chromatic scale from the same person...... anyone else notice that?
Tommy Sargeant Just look at the feelings
@@SBurak-uc3vw yeah... and he is sitting around...
I'm sight reading this piece, and so far this has been the best interpretation yet! Very well done!
JosueBach I'm gonna sight read this piece too for an exam! Can't wait, she's really inspiring!
It’s really a shame, I’ve heard a couple of performances of this concerto from this competition, the orchestra is always dragging and not following and playing in a lazy tone. Can’t blame them, they are playing the same piece over and over with completely different interpretations to follow, but that’s why the maestro is there. Really takes my attention away from such good quality playing.
so fabulous!!!!!
I am so glad to find this again....she is other worldly....complexity does not begin....
:>
Please let us see the whole right hand when they are doing upbow staccato ...........
It's really pointless to show it without right hand.
Strongly agree, the TV director doesn't know violin.
No doubt that veriko did beautifully.
Yes, there were some passages she stumbled on, but musically this was fantastic. She actually made it seem shorter than it was, which is the real benchmark, not the cleanliness of her octaves.
She deserved to win!
That eye bulge at 10:03 tho :p
evan mjelde This is my favorite part!😂
I love that
I love Veriko, she is Georgian (qartveli)
Out of this world!!!!!!!!!!!!
so wildly baffling fantastic mind bending wonderful
Que belleza , que don tan grande.
Es maravillosa.
Gracias por compartir.
IMO, she had the best tone in the competition, which doesn't hurt. I don't know how much of it was due to her instrument.
The orchestra sounds more attentive and alive than it did for Kim.

Lionel Stormie: Thank you for your wonderful response!!!
Lionel Stormie You stated my exact thoughts so well!!
They were buyed :O
What a beautiful voice!
3:38 is where violin solo begins
extraordinaria !
She is wonderful.
Very good play. I forgotten the technical difficulties and enjoyed the music. Thumbs up.
She makes this concerto sound too sweet and marshmellow; I'd prefer more passion (appassionato), not just sweet girl's dreams. Up-bow staccato is too slow compared to young Shlomo Mintz's recital; it should be played a lot faster.

Bravo, indeed!
Most of the Richness sound comes from technology leap (condenser mics) and Camera crew sure did a bang up job. Nice to be in this era of technology leaps to enjoy these competitions as if it's recorded in a studio despite being on live stage with audience nuisances.
And there is also its version for headphones (binaural): ruclips.net/video/xxcva8Jot5k/видео.html
@@WieniawskiSociety wow... the binaural version is killer... personally i dont know who is the best... but the sound of this concerto is supreme... maybe bomsori has some troubles with the breathing... i just cant heard the verikos breathing ... but bomsori is amazing too she has the polish style..
bravo
Very powerful.. I like it..
I was there ❤️
So terrific
What a sweet tone 😮😍
14:18 softest, sweetest resolution
Thrilling.
why not a single finalist in this competition played the F# minor concerto? everybody played d minor.
Honestly said, I do not know exactly the whole concert, because I practized just the slow movement many years ago, but I think, that this lady plays very well. Maybe that her violin has too many high frequences and to few flat ones. That is not her mistake. I do not know the whole concert . Therefore I do not know where are the double stop octaves and I did not hear them. If I wouold know this music better, I would able to hear more exaxtly . Or are I already too tired by the day now? Perhaps is it so.
👏🏻 bravoooo
Did she just flick us all off at the beginning?
Nah. That was for Weiniawski. Lol.
One of the best concerto ever - the best player is W.Tworek.
Impressive up bow staccato
I don't love this concert, but I have to admit that she plays it really good.
very good
Is it only me to think that she can be mistaken for Gru's mom on despicable me.
Thanks I can't unsee it now
Every note.
how does this compare to rabin or schlomo mintz?
I don't think anyone can beat Shlomo Mintz's performance of the wieniawski violin concerto no 2. His performance was just on a completely higher level, fully integrating the most difficult technical parts of the piece into the most pleasurable musical interpretation.

Brava.
does anybody know when first part is ending?
She doent look on violin board, meaning shes already absolotely memorize all the whole violin notes
Beautiful performance, but I'm sorry, I was not impressed with the ascending octaves at 5:26. Or more like, 1-2 ascending octaves. Those need to be thick and prominent, not slurred.
Lol dude.. calm urself
"To be thick and prominent" it's about to go see the male magazines😂
@@nss4472 Very funny. I mean that she didn't correctly play the octaves. One shouldn't play this concerto if all the ascending octaves are not perfectly executed.

Ok but was she flipping me off at the beginning or......

Nice sound - GBG
She's a fantastic player, but I think her instrument is just awful. Maybe it is the way it is setup. It is very thin sounding at medium volume and lacking in a depth or body of sound. It does cut through when really thrashed but there is very little violinistic warmth to its sound. There are so many over-bright violins nowadays that are set up to cut through orchestral volume but they end up sounding one-dimensionally thin and brittle. Though the orchestra is good in this competition, the hall acoustic tends to drown the soloist but there seems little effort to balance, hence the soloist is forced to play the instrument to within an inch of its life. This also applies to even the Mozart concerti performances in the same competition. But that doesn't alter the fact that Veriko is a rare and brilliant player that in this competition thoroughly deserved the result.
i don't think she deserves the first prize. Bomsori should have won
I see a lot of influence from Perlman's performance
She made a mistake at 23:40 and 23:56. Overall the performance was good. Her tone is very powerful and heavy like Vengerov
There are some intonation issues that I couldn´t stand. Bomsori Kim is better tan Veriko...
Fernando Souto Yes i agree it’s out of tune quite often BUT listen to both players around 5:00 - Kim easily wins comfortably on the technique front but listen to the rubato of Tchumburidze compared to Kim - imo she blows Kim out the water musically.
She made lots of mistake.....the same as shostokivich........still after all this time i cant forget her mistake....and bomsori
I'm suffocated by her hard playing, can't find any points to breathe in and out, she does not deserve the first prize.
I would love to see you do any better
Please see my comments about her instrument, which I find harsh, brittle and thin sounding. Many players at this kind of competition feel duty bound to over-play in order to "impress" that they have large hall concerto potential. That also puts pressure on them to turn up with instruments that are set up for projection, not sound quality.
