  • We visited Cody, Wyoming, and were struck by the incredible natural beauty and the many things to do. Founded by Buffalo Bill Cody to be a gateway to Yellowstone Park, it has remained that and much more, including spectacular scenery, exciting history, and its world-class museum, The Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Even better, residents enjoy its livability, low crime and high average income.

Wyoming is absolutely beautiful! Anyone who says "Wyoming is ugly" is an idiot and has either ,never been all over Wyoming or prefers asphalt , brick and steele cities....Wyoming is a very diverse state , with varied terrain, vegetation, etc....can't visit one area and say " this is Wyoming" ...from high desert to alpine mountains, Wyoming is amazing.......thanks enjoyed this....stay safe and God bless....🙏❤

Wow. ppl are crazy eh? Wyoming is so beautiful ! Brings me right back to my childhood days of watching Western Movies, Wild Bill, old pioneer buildings, wooden sidewalks(yes lol, path to my Gran's door was wooden planked sidewalk-Northern Canada in 50's) some parts of Wyoming remind me of some sections of Canada too. If only I had a million bucks I'd hit Wyoming on my bucket list. Travelling with Joe'n Nic is such a BLAST! 💖🥰

Although the stampede rodeo is large, the daddy of em all during Cheyenne frontier days is the largest. Cody nite rodeo does daily rodeos from June to august starting at 8 pm. Bubbas BBQ is a must to have when visiting. I grew up 90 miles from Cody and Cody was where we did all of our shopping. (Closest Walmart) Yellowstone gift shop is always fun. There’s one store in downtown that sells jams, jellies, jerky, and sausage to die for. Can’t remember the name. Cody Fourth of July parade is a must do as well. Not too far outside of Cody on highway 14A, the heart mountain relocation center and memorial is a cool historic stop as well. I’m not sure if they still do this too (haven’t been to Cody in years) every hour during the summer an old west style shootout show happens just in front of the Irma. It’s a cool fun way to show western history. Also Irma hotel is named after Cody’s daughter. The restaurant inside is delicious. One of the hotel rooms is one of the most haunted in the country according to legend. There’s also a large veterans memorial on the outskirts of town near beck lake. Granny’s cafe reminds me of a nice home cooked meal and if I remember correctly they had huge cinnamon rolls. I believe you can also go rafting on the Shoshone river in the canyon below Cody. This was one of my favorite places to go growing up in Wyoming. My town was never this vibrant or fun. I hope this comment helps other visitors choose other things to do in the city as well!

Cassie’s was originally a house of ill repute in the early 1900s. That was also the prohibition era so there was a secret entrance into the basement where alcohol was discreetly served.
It’s been one of Cody’s most popular hang out spots since the beginning. Live bands frequently play there on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a nightly dinner menu as well as daily lunch served. The establishment has had a few owners throughout the years but each has tried to keep the historical integrity of it intact. The main sign at the edge of the road has been there as long as I can remember.

We stayed in a cabin at West Thumb high in the mountains near the MT line (on north & west side). It had a wood burning stove. Didn’t stay in the cabin too much, there was so much mountain to see.
Never made it to Cody, turned off hwy to Shell & Ranchester - had a deadline in

I used to truck extensively in Wyoming, and it is beautiful, especially in that northwest corner. I drove a flatbed semi, delivered roofing/construction materials, so I got to see just about every corner of the state. Parts along I-80 are pretty desolate, I can see why some would think that's "ugly", but it's also magnificent in it's own way. I usually came to Cody by way of Casper, which takes you up through Shoshoni and Thermopolis, through Wind River Canyon, incredibly beautiful drive. If you come back another time, stop in to Thermopolis, nice little town, there's a hot springs resort and state park, historic and beautiful site, you'd love it.

In your beautiful shot of the clear blue hot pool, you could see that much of the pool was covered by a crust of minerals with hot water beneath. MANY people have died by falling through this crust to be boiled alive like a lobster. That's why they have signs saying "STAY ON THE PATH".

You definitely did Cody justice, but there's a whole lot more there to explore that's for sure.
CASSIES was definitely a brothel back in the day, and the Madame who was in charge was named Cassie. There's a pretty colorful history, unfortunately I'm not real familiar with it.
I grew up in Missouri and lived in Kansas City and moved to Cody Wyoming in 1996. I raised my kids there and they graduated from Cody High school, one of the best schools in the state. I retired 2 years ago, and I live in Tucson for the majority of the year but I go back to Cody for a couple of months every summer because two of my daughters still live there, while one and Cody and one in Powell just up the road. Also the museum there has the largest collection of Winchester firearms in the world, in fact they loan out their stuff to the Smithsonian. And you can spend a full day in that Museum and still not really see everything.

Recently a Michigan man was burned in a thermal pool and faces federal charges for going off the established walkways in Yellowstone Park. When you enter the park, you are given literature that tells you that you are to never venture off the walkways. The temperature varies from warm to scalding. Fragile thermal areas can be damaged by people disobeying clear instructions to stick to established walkways. Check out the history of deaths of pets and people who got into thermal areas.

I was there as a 2nd grader in 1968. We stayed in a log cabin at a place called the UXU lodge near Yellowstone. Still there. Rule breakers at Yellowstone don't always live to tell the tail. People have fallen into those blue pools. One guy fell into one of the crevasses near the geyser and they were not able to rescue him. There is at least one geyser that doesn't work any more due to items thrown into it. People would throw trash into it with the hopes of seeing it fly into the air. I don't remember the Restuarant food being all that good.

That was so much fun! Radiators do look unusual in a hotel but I have them in my house and they are wonderful. What a neat state. Who would have thought? I lived in CO briefly but did not go to Wyoming.

These videos do my heart good, to see the natural beauty of our country and reminisce about the road trips from my past. I am absolutely hooked on your series! I think it takes bravery to sell your house and trust in yourselves on this amazing journey. I hope the views help fund your travels. This makes me miss the work I used to do that took me to many small towns with their old main streets and squares.

😮 I wondered what he meant when he said he didn't have a house. I thought he meant when traveling. That does take courage and an adventurous spirit.

@ 33 seconds, if you look down at the river you will see a square cement foundation. That used to be a lounge/bar and grill that you could sit in a hot spring that fed into the river wile drinking a cold one.

Hey, I grew up in Cody. Here is my tip on pronunciation. Shoshone ends with the "shone" sound. Shoshoni ends with the "nee" sound. That is a common mixup for a lot of people. But now you know.

    • @mckennal.c.walker1336
      @mckennal.c.walker1336 Год назад +1

That particular river is indeed the Shoshone ("show-shown") River.

And one last thing. Please stay on the paths and boardwalks. Don't run up to the geyser water and touch it. For one, you CAN be hurt. For another, you can be fined a hefty fee of hundreds or thousands if caught.
That little girl was not entirely wrong. The geysers get their beautiful colors because of the different natural chemicals in the water. The average person does not know what is safe to touch and what is not.
There are places where you can touch the water of Yellowstone. That particular spot just isn't one of them. Please be safe. Please be respectful of the unique and delicate environment, people. Millions of people visit the park each year. We can't all tromp around wherever we want, or else Yellowstone as we know it will cease to be. Dozens of people get seriously injured and killed each year by not following the rules.
Please come. Enjoy the amazing wild lands of America. Please keep yourself and the environment safe by following the rules. Just because you may not understand why the rules are there, does not mean that they are trivial inconveniences meant to put undue annoyance on you.
