You can use robots to partially restore rare weapons like the samurai bow. Before it breaks, hand it to the robot and stay at the inn, then hand it back to human. You only get like a quarter of its uses again but you can keep repairing it.
From what I remember the gameplay loop with enemies was you go to a new world and all the enemies are OP. Then you get you nadz handed to you until you start winning. Then you play the story and you become better than all the monsters. Eventually all the monsters become easy to defeat until you come up against the sub-boss or the final boss in a world. The final boss took me days to defeat. It was absolutely maddening, but it felt great after i won.
Ahh the memories. This was the first Squaresoft RPG I played because I got it and Final Fantasy I with my Christmas money that year but mom and I were about to go visit her family so I didn't start Final Fantasy I until I got back. I think it was my fourth or fifth party before I beat the game (Two Humans, one Mutant, and a Robot) which was odd because of how close it was to my first party (One Human, two Mutants, and a Robot)
As a kid I actually quit FFL2 because after several days I couldn't beat Arsenal. Eventually a month or so later, I tried again. I got a good RNG I suppose, and survived long enough without getting nuked and beat him. Was the most excited a game ever made me. Also never did beat the game again.
took me a while too before I really understood the mechanics. I was on the school bus when I started the fight and I finally beat it while I was walking down my driveway. Now that I really understand how everything works the game is a cakewalk 😂
It's been over a year since I watched this video but I have both a soft spot for this game and your vid. Both inspired me to make my own channel and I have to say it's nice looking back on this time. Wish you the best!
Indeed, a cool game. And very much a refinement of the mind-blowing (for its time) original. Here's a neat tip. Besides putting Robots at the head of your party to tank most of the damage, you can repair them outside of battles by continually unequipping then reequipping anything that doesn't have a number of uses: such as a piece of armor.
Money? Use the armor trick to restore HP, run from every fight. Best drops are in chests and rare drops from bosses. The grind is to refight each boss until you get all the good toys. Sell the spells and just keep moving.
I had a very love/hate relationship with this game. I really REALLY didn't like the idea of stuff breaking, and I still don't, but there was something about the variety and wildness of the setting that just kept me coming back. Hell, I might even give it a try again.
That’s a great question. Never thought of it like that. I literally just played through this again this past week for the first time in years. (On my OG GB, no less!) Some things really stuck out as dated or even aged well but this snuck under my radar
