About Mad About You:
Only months into their marriage, Jamie (Helen Hunt) and Paul (Paul Reiser) Buchman already find themselves struggling to establish the ground rules for a life together in their Greenwich Village apartment. Charming and creative, documentary filmmaker Paul is also cautious and analytical, while up-and-coming public relations executive Jamie is a freer spirit, although one who harbors her own share of anxieties. Along with Jamie's luckless sister Lisa (Anne Ramsay), Paul's bachelor cousin Ira (John Pankow), and their close friends Dr. Mark Devanow (Richard Kind) and his wife Fran (Leila Kenzle), the Buchmans approach their life together with honesty, charm and humor in the face of the challenges posed by demanding careers, meddling families, former lovers, well-meaning friends and even their dog, Murray.

One of the most satisfying episodes of this or any comedy I've ever watched. Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser were just magical.

This show was very special to me….loved the chemistry between them as well as Paul’s great comedic timing. Our friends said this show reminded them of my husband and I……only now do I see what they were talking about.
Love the hair and the big sweaters, the music, and the vibe of the early 90s. Their dynamic is my relationship goal.
This episode should have been named "Hope for the hopeless romantic". Such a cute story. If only things like this happened in real life. I miss great shows like this.

Was a senior in high school when this came out....loved this show and thier chemistry, great love story and example of a nice handsome guy and ideal relationship with chemistry. Best days of tv.
This was a great show until she kissed someone else. I was fresh out of a divorce and that soured me on the whole show. Never watched it again.

When I was a teenager I used to watch this show and loved it! But never realized it was this old at the time. December 1989, I was two months old! New Year's 1989 was my first new year's on earth. It's neat to watch a snapshot of the world, and NYC, my favorite city, at the time I was born. Still love this 32-year old show at 32 years old 😆

When I can't get to sleep I come up with my list of 10 best sitcoms of all time. Better than counting sheep. Somehow I always forget about this one. But no more. It was great, and under-recognized. I'll take Mad About You over Friends any time.
Serious chemistry between those too. And great writing.

had perfectly white, straight teeth?? Kind of refreshing to see more dental variety lol.
Also back then people would start drinking coffee and smoking at an early age and they didn’t focus on how white their teeth were as much as now.

Hehe dry cleaning. It's amazing the many different ways people can meet. For me she was literally the Girl Next Door and she was dancing on the balcony of her apartment. I thought ok she's strange but then found out she was a dance instructor preparing a lesson. That seems a long time ago in a galaxy far far away now...
I love the way his hand grazes her face after they kiss.

This is so touching. I had such a crush on her. It is even more touching to see that they were celebrating 1990 in that episode. That was 32 years ago. So much of my life has passed me by. I have lived I have loved, I have lost and I have started again...so many times. It almost seems like this episode covers all of that in just a few minutes. The internet was not available to people. Cell phones did not exist. Life was simple and guys had to do what they could in order to not lose a girl they liked. Nowadays, that would be considered stalking. How sad what we have become as a people. This innocent episode, no matter what era, gives me hope that I will find someone that will understand me more fully. Mad About You...1990...thank you!

Met Someone is one of the cutest episodes (Cold Feet is the other one that melts my heart) 😍. I totally remember the last scene before their first kiss and i bawl like a baby. Paul and Jamie are the cutest and i love them♥️.

I'm 23 years old and recently found love with a wonderful man. During my teenage years I believed that i was never going to have a special connection with someone and eventually he became the Paul to my Jamie.

No kidding!!! ...and yet, I was freshly divorced when this originally aired, but I'll spare you... Totally different world, social climate completely different... Today, if a guy were to "hunt down" a gal he was interested in and delivered her dry cleaning up to her office after she dropped her claim check, etc, the gal suddenly goes "KAREN", throws a Krav Maga kick before applying a steel kubotan in his thigh ~ What a difference 30 years makes... and I was 30 when this aired, so yeah... Too many "Fatal Attraction" psycho narcissistic women nowadays, unfortunately :(

@@mirfir According to an interview with Lisa Kudrow, she just wanted to be on Mad about You, but she also heard about a new pilot for a show called “Friends” in the early ‘90’s. So it’s not a spin off, but both shows accommodated Lisa’s wish. That’s why they came up with the idea for Phoebe to have a twin sister, Ursula.
It's not a spinoff, they were created separately, they just exist in the same universe (because Lisa Kudrow acted on both). Ursula has appeared on Friends, as well as Jamie and Fran.
They're also in the same universe as Seinfeld. Paul's old apartment is Kramer's apartment. Kramer originally sublet it from Paul.
@@mirfir I never saw the pilot before and it has been sometime since I watched an episode. What strikes me solidly, is Pauls accent and style of speech. If I had had my eyes closed and no names were used, I would have sworn it was Jerry Seinfeld .

my favorite episode. I have this screenplay memorized I have seen it so many times. I binge this whole sitcom at least twice a year since it came out. Helen Hunt's best role by far and in my opinion the best sitcom ever(honorable mention to Frasier in second place) "this is what I'm saying!"

Ah yes, the late 80s was famous for a ... natural look. Huge shoulder pads on women. Leotards. Hair sprayed and frizzed on both men and women. Perms and mullets. Bar and club scene full of androgynous people. Bolt-on, rock-hard fake breasts. Steroid use spreading among the young male population for the first time in large numbers.
You know... natural.
Stop idealizing your youth and making young people feel bad about theirs. We were just as dumb as they are and we turned out fine. The 80s were just as imperfect as today.
