Bjørn, please try the challenge with a raven S/X long range! Perhaps even with ccs adapter on IONITY stalls :)
One challenge after another. Impressive.👍👍
The P85 is quite fast, for a 6 year old car....
I didn't expect that result.
Yepp, I wann a see the 1000km test with Model S Raven
Just charge it once :)
Marko Simac true
Wow, I didn't expect this result. But it shows, that the future buyer of this P85 can't do anything wrong with the range and charging speed and that "older" Model S cars are still a serious competitor to current EVs with a very attractive price tag
Geo ReVox
Precisely, that’s why legacy car makers have an uphill battle to catch up with Tesla.
What a brilliant comparison between Model 3 and 6 year old P85. My 2014 P85 started to report needs service around 60K miles I always really hammered it, I got the power reduction for 3 months now and again . Then it started reporting low water. I topped the water with distilled for a year some times, Tesla found the leak on the 4 way water valve. Maybe 20k miles of driving sometimes the battery had got too hot. Then it reported GET TO TESLA battery reduced power. It got me home Tesla gave me a loaner picked it up replaced battery for free fixed water leak (car was out of warranty). So now its like a new car 2 years out of warranty, whole deal took 3 days hows that for service! And you are right you loose about 10% battery over the 4 years (i think the P allows you to proper hammer the 0-60 like 4 seconds!)
Thanks for the info. I will forward it to Marcusbil.
Isnt it 8 year warrenty on battery and drive lines?
@@generalgrd2700 yes it is your correct, im sure i knew at the time and was even prepared for some kerfuffle but was a simple process. I remembered I called Manchester only to be told they already knew!
When i looked in my email i had received an email from Hawthorn saying " Our logs show you may have a battery problem please call your service centre they have the logs and will arrange to resolve the problem at your convenience".
Thats impressive
Benchmarking a variety of vehicles this way as part of the TeslaBjornTestProcedure would be amazing. Range mostly relates to road trips, and the 1000 km test seems like a great distance to test with.
Soon to be 10 years old. Time flies.
This video is sponsored by stromberg, marcusbil , a better routeplanner .......😂
You should try my 2013 P85+ Bjørn! Driven 161.000KM and the registration is starting with EL22XXX ;) Only lost 10KM of range and still got the original battery pack.
how, my 2013 p85 has a range of 350km at 100% what do you have ?
@@mrcharles3061 home charging + garage maybe?
5:34 Titanic Flute Fail Music for Bjorn xD
You did slightly better than the trip I did yesterday. I drove 663 miles (1067km) in 12hr 15min, so 87km/h, in a 2013 S85. I have 112k miles on the car, 7% degradation. I get along with it pretty well.
+Jeremy Schmidt But you probably had better roads.
Bjørn Nyland
Maybe a bit better. Also I ate two proper meals that took some time.
This guy...what can I say...best RUclipsr...
Yeah! Try coming IONIQ 38.3 kWh Facelift-Version. But in wintertime! 🐌 Would be fun! Not for you, but for the audience 🤣
I fear the 1000km challenge with the 38kWh version will be a torture, whatever the season !!!!!
Just back from a 2000+ km (1000 each way) trip between Cannes and Heidelberg, using mostly 50 kW chargers, and achieved around 72 km/h average speed, with widely sub-optimal charging..... I'd be curious to see how quick you could be on a predefined road with reliable fast (i.e. Ionity) charging. I'd bet at least 80km/h, so 12h30 max.....
Go for it, Bjorn, there's a challenge waiting for you here !!!!!
say at least 78 km/h, so 12h50 max
@@pierremorant8885 New IONIQ can't fast charge! Average 34 kW @ IONITY Fast-Chargers... and in Wintertime (cold battery) going down to 7 kW...
@@DerBlauzahn Hallo, yes, I've seen the specs released by Hyundai. So disappointing. My point is rather that Bjoern does the test with a 28kWh, and shows that this version, is still very much relevant today. Reasonably small batteries are eco-friendlier
“Mayday, Mayday, we’re in deep shieeet” 😂😂
The car has a dead right front light. Probably a bad ground in the frunk, and thats why it was acting strange.
It was chargin at 90kW at the Køge supercharger . Don't bash the classic! :)
That was a long trip
It was indeed. But the bockwurst was good.
Ranking burger places in denmark 3. Mc donalds 2. Burgerking 1. Sunset. Atleast from my perspective :)
Keep up the awesome videos! i love them! Greetings from denmark :)
Do a trip around baltic sea! I would love to see that
@@Haldexify There are no superchargers in Baltic states, that would be the main problem. I know that there are chargers in Latvia, but don't know about other countries. Maybe it's not even possible now.
1000 kilometer Raven S challenge with it's 595 kilometer range. Start full one or two stops. Wow!
That's assuming driving 90 km/h. The speed during my trip was 130-150 km/h. I need at least 4 stops.
driving through göteborg should be done after 9 in the morning until 15:00 or after 19:00 until 4-5 in the morning any other times u get a shitload of trafic jams i guess its the same in other bigger cities in sweden/norway and denmark
That’s my dream car. Rwd with no optional extras
The Model 3 battery & powertrain are better than the Model S/X. Newer tech, more experience, etc.
until this year at least.
...to you later! 😊
As always, great video! 👍
I would be very happy with this old boy, because i have 2 kids, and frequent stops are much needed!
I think you should test the long range model 3 first, as it's the one that most people are interested.
Try the Model S Raven please !
Thanks for the amazing content !!
Björn, not everyone is going to Oslo, and Gothenburg. If going E4 in direction of Stockholm Löddeköpinge is the last Supercharger for quite a long distance. There is coming another one soon in northern Skåne, but until then Löddeköpinge will be congested of people jusing up.
Ok
Bjorn
When you gonna get Leaf 62kWh?
1000km perfect test for it
No battery cooling, so after the first charge, it would be painfully slow. But 5 or 600 km would be quite fast.
He deserves more views
Very good pronunciation of "Køge" 🥳
Funny to see you charging at Kungälv, I am riding my bicycle around there when I do my training round. Passing right behind the SuperCharger. The short round is about 55 km around Hisingen.
Ultimate Car of the Year!
It's my Favorit Treck from Hamburg to Kopenhagen! There are a lot of Ionic charger near by Supermark's!
Isn't it that Tesla Strip the recharching Power down by ~20%?
The old model S is still an amazing car. And a great deal
Yeah sounds like quality judging by the power reduced sign early in the ride. EV's might require less maintenance but Teslas certainly seem like crap.
@@Perkelenaattori insideevs.com/news/359939/tesla-model-s-900000-kilometers-odometer/
Perkelenaattori really. The reduced charging speed is still faster than a boatload of other evs. When Bjorn is in an evil fandom excited about 48kwh and in a Tesla that is a waste of time
Hi Bjorn.
I am looking for buying a modes S lower end, or higher end Model 3.
However after watching carefully many of you videos, I can see that the battery slowly looses the capacity and the charging speed drops too.
Is there any way you could make a video, and get some data for u, soon to be Tesla owners (I think even people who own tesla would also be happy to see your knowledge and experience about Tesla batteries).
I think it would help a lot EV owners and ICE drivers who would like to change, but are still afraid the battery will die or loose capacity as in their personal mobile (1 or 2 years).
I undestand that every car is different but some general data from a few different vehicles would be perfect.
Thanks a lot for your hard work!
Piotr Pawel W.
@bjørn I'm a bit late to this video, it just so happened to pop up after watching your 1000km Zoe challenge.
Anyway back to why I'm commenting on this video, the charging on this car is likely not due to the battery condition or age. It's more likely to do with 2016.16.1 after the Chinese car caught fire. Tesla pushed out a BMS update for the older cars. My 2016 Model S has been awful since that update, others have the same issue since that update and it's well documented in the US with a class action lawsuit. If you want more real world data I can provide it if you want to do a video about it.
I've been trying to get Tesla to detail why the BMS charge curve was changed by a large margin but obviously just get the run around.
Long time follower by the way and your video's is why I ultimately bought my car.
Interesting. My girlfriend and I are thinking quite a lot about going EVs, maybe Tesla. How it and the battery ages is something I think about. Out current fossil Golf is about 11 yo now but it runs quite much as when it was new. This was a very interesting video. I'm inspired to look for more content like this, ppl testing / reviewing old EVs. Thanks for sharing.
.. adding to that, our Golf is a 2009 model but we've only just passed 110 000 km on it.
Please do the challenge with the Etron :)
As I bought an Ioniq because of you and have been on holiday with it (1500km) I want you to do the same. Its gonna be a lot of short stops.
I cannot decide if I like that turn signal sound or hate it.
This is pretty much the car I have and I am super happy with my old Tesla. Shure I would love to have a Mode S Raven but I can't afford one anyway.
No opening sunroof is a deal breaker for me
@@M-TRON My Model S has a steel roof. So after market sun roos would be no problem. But I am happy as it is. I never open any windows while driving.
Wish you a Raven in the garage soon, then. Cheetah mode and all the bells and whistles ;)
Björn, next time you make a Transfer of the car, use our tesla specific equipment to check battery on track while driving. BR Michael
"It is almost they are farting" YmmD
Quite impressed with the charging stations. Wherever you stop there are multiple superchargers you mentioned 42 stalles at your final stop. Not like a couple but more like several dozen. Don’t see that where I live yet. I live in the Netherlands. A small country of course. So it might be enough to charge at home. And in many cases you can charge ar your work adress. Cannot afford a EV yet.
Now you probably do and enjoy countless joyful EV miles :)
3:23 quite impressively responsive UI for a 6 years old car. Nearly all modern cars still have sluggish UIs 🙄
You didn't watch the live stream :P This car had uber sluggish navigation.
@@bjornnyland true. Currently too much work to watch long livestreams, sadly 🙄
when you close the door it has a strange sound like something light and shaky. maybe the windows was not up completely.
Do that challenge in the e-up xD
Man, that BigMac 😲😲🤤
I'd like to know how the e-tron does on the challenge.
So fun to watch!
Yes please with Audi e-tron! and maybe even the Jaguar i-Pace! 😎
Not bad for 6 years old car!
meet Millenium falcon !!!
For amusement, why not do a range challenge with say three or four model 3's running in a convoy/peleton running as close as safely possible on autopilot to exploit drafting?
In the clip at the beginning, you see only one front light in the display, maybe that's related to the "car needs service" message? .. But that's only a guess.
edit: at 17:50 there is the red message symbol coming back, and it was getting dark. Maybe that's the light again? But it wasn't mentioned anymore, so no idea^^
edit2: 29:44 ah, there, the broken light was mentioned, but no power limit anymore. Hmm. Still no idea :D
No, the car needs service resulted in very sluggish throttle and reduced power.

In the old days when this battery was new...
You mean 2013, earlier THIS decade?
Electric car people are in cloud cuckoo land.
Ancient as in lots of new tech and performance upgrade over 6 years:
- Autopilot
- Adaptive cruise control
- Better adaptive air suspension
- AWD
- More efficient drivetrain
- Larger batteries
- Faster acceleration
- More range
- Way faster charging
- More efficient inverters
- Better aerodynamics
- Better interior
- Better soundproofing
That's just some of the new features I can think of. How many new features does a typical fossil car manufacturer introduce after 6 years?
Are you still alive Steve?
:D
After BN comment you seem to be B(j)orn again :)
why did you say it only got 77kW at mittelfart because it was old - it was because you were sharing a stall. When you werent shared you got upto 117kW that I saw
No, I was not sharing a stall. The other car next to me was a Model 3 which couldn't charge at that stall.
good job Teslas dont have tachographs like trucks to check sleeping time etc :) ...great vid keep em coming.
You do know that Chopchop has opened just next to Max in Uddevalla?
He knows, but he drove past Uddevalla after ChopChop had closed, so it wasn't an option.
Yes, but by the time I reached Uddevalla, that ChopChop would be closed.

Hello @
Bjørn Nyland: you need to join the german e-cannononball - i´ll think you are welcome there !!!
Why?
@@bjornnyland there are several reasons:
1.) it is one of the most outstanding events on e-mobility in Germany.
2.) i think most of the other competitors are fans of you YT channel, so you would be among friends.
3.) you know how to drive an EV on long distances effectively - that would give you the chance to occupy a good place in your e-vehicle class
Is it just in my device that at the end of the video he said "talk" not "talk to you later"?
Bjørn, please do the 1000km challenge in a Renault Fluence Z.E. - a 2015 Ford Focus Electric would also be acceptable >)
Renault Fluence Z.E. can only charge up to 11kW and is designed for BetterPlace's battery replacement which went bankrupt. My mom has one and she drives it all the time. It can hardly make 100km these days before needing several hours of charge. I wouldn't plan on driving much more than 200km in a day in a Fluence and even then that's only for experienced eco-drivers.
@@Muskar2 I know that... well, actually I thought the Fluence can only charge with 3.6 kW >)
How many weeks on chargers on a 1000KM trip?
Bjørn, the latest update has reduced the charging speed on the 85 packs "out of an abundance of caution". Nikki at Transport Evolved has a good video on this:
ruclips.net/video/iBC_QDNzYbo/видео.html
That is an old boi.
Burger King will have the impossible burger soon in the US! Have you tried it yet? Dunno if they are available overseas.
comes on own axle? 😂
Bjorn, I like your videos. You stay on the topic, no whining about global warming. Eat your burgers and banana on camera.
Is that an Electric B Class Mercedes? 27:00
Yes
If 1000km = 1Gm (Gigameter)
hello Bjorn. When you come to Croatia on vacation?
It should be in 1000km list 😉

You wish lmao it's more like constant improvements. You must say the exact same thing about phones, computers, and laptops... Oh your phone is 6yrs old? It's practically brand new! Oh then it's bad phone quality.

So if am correct and please correct me if am wrong, if u play safe to avoid slower battery etc, u change every 3 a 4 years (in this channel) from tesla car?
Incorrect. The battery will last for the lifetime of the car.
wow, v1 chargers!

No thanks.
@@bjornnyland Thanks for your reply~
Coudln‘t you get a fine by filming while driving and putting it online?
No. That‘s not forbidden. You can‘t use a phone, but you can use cameras. Also the cameras were fixed somewhere on the car. You also are allowed to use a phone when it‘s fixed somewhere.
Is the old display behind the driving wheel not completely digital. The middle with the speed indicator is not updateable?
It's fully digital.

It charges on DC via the CCS plug.

Car that is ancient at 130.000km? lol. So why would anyone that drives many km buy a Tesla? cant be good for the environment if people dump cars at 150k, 200k or 300k in 'luxury sedan' range.
Who said it will be dumped? A Tesla can drive 500k-1 mill km just fine. Unlike fossil cars.
