    Glad I found y’all on RUclips. it’s cool to see some of the maintenance on jet boats. Hope y’all had a great season.

    Jets aren't a pain in the ass. They provide good experience with tool usage, proper cutting with a grinder and a lot of other enjoyable tasks.

    Just a tip from a guy that has been running jets for decades..... Never use anti-seize on stainless.... especially on a jet. Anti-seize is aluminum oxide based and will increase oxidation between stainless and aluminum. Anti-seize will oxidize on its own between stainless and can actually seize stainless to itself. For the impeller you are way better off just using a good red grease or a Nicole based anti-seize instead. Just a word of advice from one gillnet captain to another.....

      Hey thanks for the tip! Honestly I think this is nickel based stuff I was using but can't say for sure...Speaking with another captain I was told I don't even need it because the shaft is tapered and I need a puller to remove the impeller anyway... Cheers!

    Nice job. Bit of a pain to work on I'm sure. But probably nice running up into skinny water on a tight set. No prop to tear up.

    Cool video installation. Btw, what's the clearance between that wear ring and the impeller blade? Seemed to be too close?

    • @SaltWaterSalmon
      @SaltWaterSalmon  Год назад

      Honestly at this point I couldn’t say what the clearance was during this install. I try to get it as tight as I can. Sometimes it is more of a fight to get the impeller in than others. If the tolerance is more than (roughly) .02-.025 that isn’t going to give me the performance I want. Last month when I pulled my impellers they were at .06 and I was having trouble getting on step (light ship) in deep water.

      @@SaltWaterSalmon wow, that's almost less than half a milimeter. won't that kind of tolerance be an issue on turbid waters? or if a straw for example got stucked unto it?

    • @SaltWaterSalmon
      @SaltWaterSalmon  Год назад

      @@user-wt4zc1vk8c I'm sure you are correct. I've had to backflush flotsam several times in the 4 years I've had these. Also, the waters of Bristol Bay, where I operate are often very silty. These impellers get worn down pretty fast. I only operated 35 days this summer and were giving me grief by the end of that time.
      I've never asked MJP, and you seem knowledgeable...do you know what the mfg. tolerances are?

    • @user-wt4zc1vk8c
      @user-wt4zc1vk8c Год назад +1

      @@SaltWaterSalmon I don't know what their tolerances are. usually, they are very secretive about their products so it's hard to search online. but what i know is that for pumps, it's usually around 0.1 to 0.8 mm. that should be the case for waterjets since technically they are pumps as well.

      Unfortunately I don't have a good answer for you. My buddy had it made by a local machine shop in Washington State. I do know that he basically copied the wooden version that you can get from manufacturer of the jet unit.
