There were A LOT of comebacks in October and I didn't get to all of them. If your fav comeback isn't here that's probably why. There are some I chose not to include because I didn't have strong opinions on them or just didn't really have enough of an opinion to want to put it in the video, we all have our own music tastes and this series is, in part, an extension of mine.

As much as it hurt seeing Perfect Night get that low of a rating, I get it. Perfect Night grew on me, but I was absolutely let down at the first listen and seeing the choreo. I know that these girls are capable of doing so much more, maybe they were trying to play it safe since it was a collab? Idk.
I was super underwhelmed by Jini's debut. The EPs name is so badass, it strongly reminded me of Violet Evergarden lol, but I feel like the songs do not match the title at all. This is a personal pet peeve of mine, but I hate when titles, teaser images, and such don't actually match the overall feel of a release. I felt led on in that sense. You were able to put into words what also bothered me, which was Jini's robotic presence in the C'mon MV. I think this was the most disappointing aspect of all because during her time at NMIXX she was so POWERFUL. Her voice and overall presence COMMANDED your attention, and I feel like now she's regressed as a performer :/

For Le Sserafim, the collaboration with Blizzard was a promotional gig ahead of their official US market activities. They have done tons of promotional activities in US past 2weeks including Today show, MTV, NBA+Lakers, Grammy Museum, and Blizzard con. They have been able to generate decent publish out of those and that served the purpose of the collaboration very well. And the chart performance of PN has been not bad internationally which does not hurt. I found the song just ok for my taste, but I'm not putting too much on it because I got the purpose of this song.

I didn’t give G-Idle’s entire album a chance yet but maybe I will in the future because I’m always curious how kpop groups tackle an English project, so far Monsta X’s two full english albums are my favorite kpop English releases and would totally recommend to others!

Perfect night is now the highest charting English song by a girl group in melon history. 9 days at number 1 on Apple Music Korea and still counting. Debut at number 7 on billboard japan. Also had their highest entry on billboard 200. Their first entry in bubbling hot 100. Safe to say this song is very much liked domestically and internationally. Pretty good for “not even a top 6 le sserafim song” 😭 the aespa flashbacks on this take. Taejiu in his flop era, say it ain’t so

Honestly I forgot your [month] in kpop series and how good they were. I like your new editing and how you let the song long enough to let us appreciate it. Anyway, my favorites releases for this month are:
TXT - Chasing that feeling (found it boring at first hearing but then it grew on me, plus the bsides are great)
Lightsum - Honey and Spice (like you, it was a surprise for me, didn't listen to the whole project either).
Fact Check - NCT 127 (I really don't like the title track but the rest of the project is great, especially Misty, Je ne sais quoi and Space)
Overall, for most cb this month I only liked bsides: OTT - IVE, Monster - Seventeen, I Do and Eyes Roll - G(i)-dle (It was a good EP overall, having 88rising on this to break onto the west market is a smart move). Thank you for this video. Inviting someone on your monthly review was nice😊.

Lovely video! I feel like the lack of Soyeon writing was really felt in Flip That, those raps are the most generic "corporate girlgroup rap" they've ever had, both in structure and lyrics. However, like you said, in Eyes Roll the writing is great, and it's one of my FAVORITE songs of the year so I can't complain!

Also I have a low-key unpopular opinion regarding the whole concept/sound changes in K-pop! I really like new jeans' sound and tbh I'd like them to continue with the route they're going with for a little while longer. I love versatile discographies but I feel like it can be a bit more overwhelming in K-pop, with the amount of comebacks we have compared to western artists. I feel like sometimes experimentation and changes in K-pop are too rushed and become a bit overwhelming because we don't have enough time to digest their original sound! But I haven't really heard many people with this same opinion, I've only seen extremes on both sides. Like id like something in the middle: not changes every comeback, not a black pink style sound....idk !

    • @ManJojo000
      @ManJojo000 Год назад +4

I get what you mean. I'm in the middle too, I like when a group experiment with their sound but it has to be well made and not "hopping on current trendy style" type of change. The change has to be "justify", it has to make sense.

Idk why but I can't shake off the feeling that Perfect Night sounds too much like a NewJeans song rather than Le Sserafim. It's like the producers sent the song to the wrong Hybe GG and no one batted an eye. I'm surprised it charted higher than any of Le Sserafim's other songs, even in Korea, despite it being an English song (not something we see often).

my opinion for newjeans and worlds feels more like riot wrote a song and then got newjeans tosing on it rather than a song written FOR newjeans (which isn't a bad thing but I can't help but wishing it had more vocal oomph or grittiness or even just for them to make the high notes in the final chorus slightly louder) don't get me wrong I actually really love gods as a world song but sometimes I imagine how it would sound if say idk, christy constanza sang it

In my opinion, Gods felt empty compared to previous League of Legends hype tracks. In the MV comment section other GGs better know for having more powerful vocals were mentioned as potentially being better fits to the track, and I can't help but wonder if I would enjoy it more if it had been tackled by Aespa, or even a 4th (5th?) gen supergroup type matchup (E.g. Aespa's Ning-Ning & Winter, NJ's Danielle, LS's Yunjin and maybe Mi-yeon from (G)I-dle?) It's by no means bad, but it sounds like something is missing, maybe it's the mix? Idk, but it's pretty clear mine is a minority opinion.

Imo October would be somewhere between okay and good
My favorite comebacks/debuts: Chuu, Nct 127, Ive
Jini's debut is fine, c'mon is a nice pop song that i will listen to every once in a while, but i don't have much i wanna say about it
(G)I-dle's i want that... I love the production in here, but the chorus doesn't do much for me, and if it had a stronger chorus, i would like it a lot more, but oh well. I like it, but don't love it. And eyes roll and i do are great
I normally would not like a song like ive's baddie, but it works surprisingly well. Probably because ive elevates anything they touch, but it's surprisingly catchy for me. Ep's solid too. Payback is one of my favorite bsides from this month.
On the other hand, i usually would like a song like txt's chasing that feeling, but it is missing something to make me want to relisten to it. It feels a bit empty, and it just kind of stays the same throughout its run time. It's just ok. At least the album's great. Back for more has grown to be a great song.
Fact check is one of my favorites from this month because while i think it tones down the neo sound a bit, i feel like we get more of a chance to hear the vocalists shine than in previous title tracks (in fact, nct 127 have amazing vocalists and i wish we heard more of them in titles rather than just bsides), and the beat is really engaging too. Also, the bridge onwards??? Omg it's so awesome i just love it so much! Also, while this is the best album from nct this year, i only liked half the album (space, parade, angel eyes and yacht)
As for chuu's howl, it's artly because i'm glad to see the loona girls flourish more than ever after leaving their previous hell of a company called bbc, but also because the song's also awesome! It starts off as a slower song but when you get into the chorus it becomes a lot more full, and chuu's vocals in here really made this song as good as it is. Quite unfortunate it just ends after the seconds chorus, but whatever. It's still an awesome song, and she made me favOrite ep from this month.
Seventeen's god of music is good, but the hooks in here fall a bit flat. It's still a fun song tho. As for the album, i love back 2 back and headliner. Rest of the album is meh.

Heat, Gods and I´ve Mine are the releases I liked most.
I am liking I´ve mine as an EP better than their album on the bside term. Title track wise I am is my most favourite. But Baddie is top 3 for me.
Billies release is also great though I miss the raps a bit.
Agree on Le sserfim though. The song is okay but not very replayable. But since it is just a collab/ promotion for a game it is okay.

As a Neverland I have to say I disliked Heat by quite a lot. I felt like everything that makes the girls' music special and appealing was wholly missing from the record.(except their voices ig) One of the main selling points of the group is that they're fully self-produced and idk who had the idea to have them sing lyrics written by the likes of Meghan Trainor & co. Like just let the girls make the songs and hire a quality translator. The english versions of Hwaa, Latata and OMG show how well that works. Also Change, which is written fully in English by Minnie. All these songs sound good in English while still retaining the familiar vibe from their Korean releases. I'm in shambles, it's so easy.... 🤦‍♂️

lately i just have one big problem with kpop and it really showed this month: it's all just trying to emulate new jeans in a different font. new jeans popularised this genre of music, which was refreshing given that the majority of gg music at the time was girl crush or girl crush adjacent. i may be biased, given that other than kpop, i just listen to metal and rock, so i have a strong preference for noise music, but these recent releases just aren't it for me. it all sounds so boring, half the songs all sound the same to me, to the point that there was only a few releases that i could actually tell which group they were by. i liked billlie, gidle and ive's comebacks, and sunmi's comeback was really interesting, but that's about it. i hadn't seen lightsum's comeback, so i'll check it out, but i'm just so sick of companies just seeing one group get really popular and trying to recreate that success. it has never worked. all it does is water down the identities of groups and straight up ruins others (i'm looking at you weeekly). why can't we have new jeans be new jeans and have the other groups just do their own thing? what's the point of even listening to different groups if they all just sound the same? and i think it's bothering me more now, given that this calm rnb sound doesn't leave much room for variety. other trends have had the same effect, but at least other genres have room for experimentation and flavour. even with new jeans it's starting to feel repetitive....

On Cube: It isn´t cube neccesarily treated gidle a lot better than other groups. Gidle just gets more frequent cb cause they are self produced. They started producing cause cube itself didn´t manage to give them a debut song for a long time. How the Soojin situation and heat promo were handled show it as well. One reason why heat didn´t gain more traction.
Cubes treatment just got better after Tomboy cause they became cubes money makers.
Cube treats everyone bad unless they gained top player group success.
