So far, I feel like the One Piece live action series is the only one that truly has a reason to exist. Manga is a relatively niche industry in comparison to other mediums (which is a damn shame), the anime is incredibly inconsistent in terms of production quality, and the story is just dauntingly long. The Netflix series was just a perfect way to spread the franchise to a wider audience while also giving old fans a new way to experience the earliest parts of the story

Some people may enjoy the more stylised direct translation in the live action stuff now, but I find it too unbelievably silly for me to truly immerse myself and be emotionally invested in the world. Using a more wacky cartoonish style can work in live action, but it requires a level of self-awareness, something like EEAaO, or maybe Suicide Squad. Otherwise, it can just feel to jarring to take seriously
Good point about the problem of casting kids in kid roles - probably the reason all those 90s 'teen dramas' cast 25 year Olds as high schoolers. Turns out watching actual teenagers in those roles is... jarring.
I'm going to give this show a chance but the creators leaving the project & wanting to be ThE nExT GaMe Of tHrOnEs drama killed my hope of it being good. "But why try to be Game of Thrones, everyone hates that now." Ben Yahtzee Croshaw. A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones has a worse influence on fantasy than Watchmen did with superheroes because people always take the wrong lessons from what makes their grim inspiration good. Just make a show about Kyoshi for a gritty Avatar adaptation instead of trying to make Aang story more grim. What's hilarious is this upcoming Last Airbender show has the same premiere date as the Better Call Saul episode Cobbler.
My father made me watch Vikings which is painfully mid meanwhile refusing to watch Vinland saga and edgerunners (that literally begins with a gore heavy scene) because they're "cartoons for children" and I'm like... huh
Yeah I used to have that reaction - think it was because I automatically assumed animation = kids stuff, so gore and adult themes caused some pretty hardcore cognitive dissonance, which ironically caused me to avoid adult themed animation for a long time.
Non live action simp doesn't appeal to everybody. Personally I absolutely love it but one Piece artstyle is so utterly horrendous and ridiculous imo that I can't watch or read it because I can't take it serious. And that's how a lot of people feel about animation in general. Their loss. Also vikings wasn't mid at all and edgerunners lost me when the first overly sexualized character showed up, why the fuck would anybody in their right mind watch trash like that.
@@caleidozkopie8344 i get the appeal thing but that's not even close to the point I made and also it's not really a good counter. Also complaining about sexualization of characters and in the same breath praising vikings is the funniest shit. Vikings is just soap opera for straight men, nothing wrong w that is just not the most inspired media, it's like saying suits is a good show lmao. But you're right, your loss for missing out on a fantastic story because "the characters are hot" (?).
@@HimmelsBlues Girl what 😂 Real human beings emote in a very, very different way than drawn characters and being overly expressive with your gestures and facial expression is typical for media catered to children and typical for cartoons, animes and 3d animated movies. Of course a lot of adults aren't interested in something like this. "Vikings is just soap opera for straight men" You don't seem to know what a soap opera even is lol Not to mention that you sound like someone who hasn't watched the show at all. Vikings is as much a show for the boys as it is for thr girls. In fact I know more women who have watched the show lol Btw the difference between vikings and _a lot_ of animes is that their female characters are just as sexualized as their male counterparts, while anime is very well known for "Oh gosh the male main character just tripped, fell and now his hand is accidentally grabbing is female classmates gigantic knockers" and overly sexualized female characters with barely any clothing on. Why dont we compare the likes of Nami, Nezuko, Seri Awashima or Erza to Donna, Rachel, Jessica, Lagertha, Torvi and Helga. Its pretty damn obvious that the female viking and suits characters aren't nearly as sexualized as female characters from major animes like One Piece and Fairytail. Also.. Suits IS a good show. It's not groundbreaking, it's not soul inspiring, it's nothing than will change your perspective on life and death but it doesn't need to be to be an overall good show. (Not to mention that vikings as well as suits have really good reviews and ratings but whatever lol) Also regarding your last statement, no that overly sexualized character from edgerunners isn't hot. Mostly naked, overly sexualized characters are never hot. Lagertha is hot. Torvi is hot. Jessica is hot. I'm just sorry you apparently have a such bad taste in women lmao
"It needs to be learned the hard way" Unfortunately, executives generally seem incapable of learning any lesson, regardless of how hard the way it's taught. As you said yourself, the imagined demographic problem has been around for ages, and it still remains a pervasive and almost foundational marketing philosophy despite the fact it has inevitably lead to failure time and time again
For those complaining about people being skeptical about this upcoming live action adaptation, have you forgotten how fucking awful the first live action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation was? Avatar: The Last Airbender fans are skeptical for a good fucking reason.
Wow came back just to say. It is bad actually, like surprisingly terrible, like outside of the disrespect to animation and the spectacle, it is painfully familiar with the awful writting of the shamalayan movie
Im not optimistic. This adaption will have more screen time than the animated show and I can almost certainly guarantee it'll feel rushed with how much time they'll be wasting. will they condense plotlines and maybe mix and match things? nope they'll most likely pick a plot line they liked most and extend it to be a full hour with all the filler imaginable. the removal of sozins comment imo is also dumb. if the actors aging is the main concern then make the comment take longer, maybe 3 years this time. we need some kind of stake. maybe they'll have one but i cant shake this show is going to nonstop meader through to the end hitting the important plot points and adding filler in to get there. lastly, 25 million an episode?? and it still looks that cheesy?? sometimes I wonder where all the money goes if this is the best we get. and in fairness it doesnt visually look terrible just not amazing either. and why can zuko never have a proper scar. have these people ever seen a burn victim?
Your not missing much if you don't see it because overall Netflix Avatar is OK compared to the original show but it's a masterpiece compared to the shitty movie that does not exist in Ba Sing Se. Why can't we have 20 episodes each season shows anymore? Because it's still struggling to cram 20 episodes into a shorter timeframe.
I know you add notes to clarify certain points but they're starting to get a little egregious. It kinda takes me out of the flow of the video by constantly having to pause just to read something. It makes the notes feel inconsequential.
It happened on the Castlevania adaptations too. Every game was dismissed as not having enough story, so they essentially took characters names and appearance, and made whatever they wanted. Fans were called out -phobes and -ists for not liking the changes, and the tourists that never played the games kept repeating the same tired points, like "the games have no story".
@@TheGreenScout yes, i want to gatekeep lazily adaptated media from existence. It creates a toxic mob of tourists that think that they know everything about a franchise without knowing the source material. There is no other term for that, they're tourists, that will forget that the franchise even exists when the next big product releases.
Been fan of the Games since Symphony of Night, I also loved the 1st season of the animated show. You aren't wrong, It is a Hodge Podge remix of the lore, but it worked for me. I mean, it's not like the story from the games was super important or great. I've never once played a Castlevania game just for the story, I play for the gameplay.
And look, there are a lot of bad shows that blame the fans for their failures when the show runners had zero intent on satisfying the fans from the get go... But don't be so jaded and weary that anything that isn't exactly like you want it to be is automatically considered Woke. I don't know, perhaps I find myself thinking the same things most the time, I just don't want everyone to be as jaded and disconnected as I am I guess😂😂
@@CordellPotts i'll break it in topics for easier understanding: - An adaptation of Castlevania 3 and Rondo of Blood should not be a Hodge podge remix from the whole franchise. It should adapt the story present on the respective games, as there is enough space for creative freedom to expand on them. The creators were clearly not intent on researching and using the source material beyond superficialities, due to their massive inflated ego, in dismissing the game's story as not important and non-existent (which ironically, you just did) - i never said it was bad. It was lazily adapted. The Trevor show is an entertaining non-canon narrative, enjoyable when one can take it for what it is: fanfiction. -- Sadly, Nocturne is a big offender, as it has literally nothing to do with Castlevania beyond the existence of vampires and a man named Belmont. It not only replaces every backstory and motivations for worst ones, but it takes out core elements from the franchise, like Dracula, Transylvania, the Castle, turning it into an unrecognizable beast. - i played (and replayed) all the games since childhood. Really, from the very first nes game until the last DS game that follows the IGA chronology + the Reboot trilogy. I know that a Castlevania anime has the potential to be good, if in the hands of someone that knows his stuff, with Dracula being a recurring villain, while generations of Belmonts take their turn to the fight. So far, we get wasted potential, that the tourists will keep defending because "the story was not important".
Was it really that hard to make an original live-action Avatar show? The creatives might not have left and been more flexible with Netflix's image of the show.
@@Bionickpunk that taking point is so tired y’all need to come up with new material. And I can tell you’re one of those people who hated it before it even came out lmaooo. There’s nothing they could’ve done that would’ve satisfied you people
I understand your points that definitely apply to all of disneys remakes and many others. Those aren’t live action adaptions well done though. They’re perfect examples of what not to do. Those are shit. The only good live action I saw from Disney was cinderella. Or another adaption well done is Prince of Egypt taking a story from the Bible and making it beautiful and plausible. Everything about that movie was better then the cartoon in my opinion. I doubt that avatar show will be better then the cartoon, but I’m not gonna dog on it just because it’s a live action adaptation. I hope it can have my equal appreciation for the show. I’m excited to see characters brought to life and have people that were never willing to watch “a kids show” actually be willing to watch it. I will admit season 1 can be so freaking hard to get into. My mom didn’t like the show till season 2. And I’ve always thought sense I was a kid having a live action to get them interested in the concepts would be so nice. My point is, I think both aspects of storytelling like live action, books, cartoons, all have their own strengths. And I’m a firm believer that shows can be adapted successfully even with big changes made. I’m glad they’re taking risks. Let’s see if they pan out or if they affect the show in horrible ways. As long as they can make the plot points work within the context of the story… it’ll be good. Even if it’s not accurate. My issue is this logic overdone just defeats the purpose of adapting anything. I know you’re not apposed to the idea of remakes all together, but I think avatar fans should give it a chance. Why recreate books? It’s never gonna be Exactly what the author envisioned. Which is sad in a way but we can see new ideas presented to these types of shows with new adaptions
Its quite simple. Adapting different mediums requires certain leniencies, managa to anime already requires quite a few changes to function well but is probably the most faithful youll get for an adaptation. An anomation to a live action though requires many more changes to function on even the most basic level to the point it doesnt even feel like an adaptation anymore. You also got the other issue is the fact that animation is exagerated and usually chosen for some visual or stylistic reason, something live action cannot feasibly immitate let alone surpass. Animation is also cut differently in its pacing, when you adapt that it feels uncanny in live action to what would otherwise feel normal in animation and its even worse when they dont know when to cut a scene and it goes in way to long. Fight scenes especially are guilty of this in adaptations because animated foght scenes are cut and paced mich differently from live action on top of the visual cohesion and effects required. The most damning of all though is probably because it doesnt have to exist, you cant convince me the live action httyd will be better, everything the looks off and at the end of the day dorsnt have a purpose to exist when you have the beautifully animated trilogy already concluded

You know the response to this video does actually have me considering if I was too rash and mean-spirited, but I've seen hundreds if not thousands of my peers in different parts of the industry get laid off in the last year to cover the financial losses streamers are taking on these kinds of ill-advised remakes. It's hard not to hate them instinctually, and hope they fail just to prove that new ideas are still worth making. It's not lost on me though that I basically just said I'm rooting against the people on THIS show keeping their jobs, and that I do regret.
I just think that many of your point in this videos don’t have much merit. The creators did leave, true. But both still consulted on the development of the show, one even recently removing his letter from when he did announce he’d be leaving the show. Also, many of your points reference other live action projects that haven’t worked out or simply assume that the showrunners have no personal investment in the Avatar lore. Meanwhile, none of this is true (based on consistent reporting all throughout the development process). Reporting from the premiere and all throughout development is that the director (Albert Kim) and cast are deeply invested in the material & huge fans. It’s honestly not worth trying to combat or argue the points that you made here because it’s glaringly apparent that your mind is made up. I just wish that you & other content creators like yourself would allow the show room to first exist before trying to force it into some narrative based on preconceived notions from other poorly executed shows. Please stop presenting live action as this impossible genre that to execute properly and that original IPs should be respected enough to always be left alone. The new One Piece live action has garnered a mass of new fans that would’ve never checked out the original animation if not for the success of the live action. But now having experienced how wonderful the story is through a medium that they could appreciate, they were interested enough to become invested in the source material. This very well could be the same, and likely will be. And it’s unfortunate that you and your audience will miss out on such a unique project and retelling of a story so near and dear to all of our hearts. Some of the best cinema or episodic series that we’ve seen have been remakes. It’s possible to honor, respect, and pay homage to a story while still carving a path for your own delivery of that same story.
You won't even watch it?? I understand the wast majority of remakes have been really bad, but if they nail it why not? If you really don't want any remake then ok don't watch it but many people want to see it, its more avatar content, its a reimagening of a loved story and in a different media. Like should we have never made the Harry Potter movies? Also there are a lot of people who just don't like animation for whatever reasons, my dad will be watching the live action and I can't wait to introduce him to this world, and other family. The changes also seem overblown, just headlines taking stuff out of context, the premiere reviews have been really good so far. There are definitely strengths and weaknesses to media vs animated like you mentioned, so why if the changes are good for the new medium why couldn't it be good? Good video but I really don't understand why you won't watch it, and even said that the last of us and one pice were good?
Your dream will never happen. Fanatics are fanatical. They want things regardless if it's overpriced, overdone, impossible. You name the issue and a fan will find it. But we need the bad to enjoy the good. It's called perspective. People need meaningless things to hate so they can ignore the real problems in their lives. It's quite beautiful the human condition.
My hopes for this adaptation are slowly getting lower and lower. That scene where Sokka says "Right, there goes the saviour of the world" and then takes a bite of an apple, made me physically cringe at how painfully unfunny it is.
Yeah they have to do better than that. People that have seen the first episode have said he’s a really good stand out character, but i dont know funny exactly means to them. Im afraid of it coming off as “try hard” but the actor is actually pretty funny irl in interviews, so i hope he’s able to make jokes feel natural. Love you!
Yeah One Piece was NOT Successful in the SLIGHTEST. Its just the netflix gaslighting HARD. The Lifetime Views are public now and there are less views than there are REVIEWS. Its botted. It shows No one that did watch it Liked it at all they just have the bar set SO LOW that anything that isn't PURE GARBAGE if good. Its the same here It isn't PURE GARBAGE very close to it but it isnt the WORST POSSIBLE OUTCOME.
I actually liked many points made in this video until Obvious Puppet had to ruin it by basically saying he hopes this adaptation of ATLA fails. Any fan of the source material should be rooting for it to be a success. In spite of all the potential shortcomings of previous works and the obvious limitations translating from one medium to another, it makes no sense to be actively rooting for the failure of an adaptation. So yeah, decent points made but crappy conclusion.
Yeah this guy was unnecessarily negative and tbh kinda aggressive. I was just left wondering why he's so bothered by it when he hasn't even seen it yet lol. The man is quick to judge 😅
With how much amazing animation is coming out, live action adaptations that come out keep looking sillier and more pathetic ways to try and make "kids show" into cool grown up show. It just showcases to me how limiting this drive to translate everything into live action makes the end product. Start giving me animated adaptations of live action already, maybe then I'll start paying attention
At this point I just avoid anything live action. Like, something that is live action out of the gate is just a live action remake of an animated production that could have existed.

That Is quite good idea, There is quite the gap there with few narrative constraints too.
@@HimmelsBlues Girl what 😂
Real human beings emote in a very, very different way than drawn characters and being overly expressive with your gestures and facial expression is typical for media catered to children and typical for cartoons, animes and 3d animated movies.
In fact I know more women who have watched the show lol
Btw the difference between vikings and _a lot_ of animes is that their female characters are just as sexualized as their male counterparts, while anime is very well known for "Oh gosh the male main character just tripped, fell and now his hand is accidentally grabbing is female classmates gigantic knockers" and overly sexualized female characters with barely any clothing on.
(Not to mention that vikings as well as suits have really good reviews and ratings but whatever lol)
Also regarding your last statement, no that overly sexualized character from edgerunners isn't hot.
16:30 of pure barz 👏🏾👏🏾
For those complaining about people being skeptical about this upcoming live action adaptation, have you forgotten how fucking awful the first live action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation was? Avatar: The Last Airbender fans are skeptical for a good fucking reason.
The only live action I want to see is a fanmade musical.
Wow came back just to say. It is bad actually, like surprisingly terrible, like outside of the disrespect to animation and the spectacle, it is painfully familiar with the awful writting of the shamalayan movie
What's all the piano music you used in the background?
Have you considered comparing the adaptations of "Mo Dao Zu Shi"?
Did you go to the premiere?
Of course not, he is a whiny cry baby with no critical thinking skills. No one wants a negative nancy with no open mind at their event.
Louder for those in th back!
Sounds a bit gate-keepy there mate, not going to lie.
Been fan of the Games since Symphony of Night,
I also loved the 1st season of the animated show.
You aren't wrong,
It is a Hodge Podge remix of the lore, but it worked for me.
I don't know, perhaps I find myself thinking the same things most the time,
I just don't want everyone to be as jaded and disconnected as I am I guess😂😂
@@CordellPotts i'll break it in topics for easier understanding:
- An adaptation of Castlevania 3 and Rondo of Blood should not be a Hodge podge remix from the whole franchise. It should adapt the story present on the respective games, as there is enough space for creative freedom to expand on them. The creators were clearly not intent on researching and using the source material beyond superficialities, due to their massive inflated ego, in dismissing the game's story as not important and non-existent (which ironically, you just did)
- i never said it was bad.
Yall are gonna be shocked this new avatar is great !!
I can’t wait for this show to come out and people be so surprised at how good it is. But obviously these people will never admit they’re wrong.
its a avatar adaptation... its gonna be watchable no matter whag as long as they dont fuck up immensely, but good? doubt it
just like witcher season 3 and rings of powe, right?
Watched it, it's not that good. Can see why the original show creators left.
@@Bionickpunk that taking point is so tired y’all need to come up with new material. And I can tell you’re one of those people who hated it before it even came out lmaooo. There’s nothing they could’ve done that would’ve satisfied you people
@@kylejackson7913 Bruh you don't know me at all, so your telling is shit.
im so tired of these types of remakes ;-; can the bad people stop touching things i like?
You haven't even seen it though?
I understand your points that definitely apply to all of disneys remakes and many others. Those aren’t live action adaptions well done though. They’re perfect examples of what not to do. Those are shit.
The only good live action I saw from Disney was cinderella. Or another adaption well done is Prince of Egypt taking a story from the Bible and making it beautiful and plausible. Everything about that movie was better then the cartoon in my opinion. I
doubt that avatar show will be better then the cartoon, but I’m not gonna dog on it just because it’s a live action adaptation.
I get so scared for the child actors, some people give them such a hard time if the content isn't good
Its quite simple.
Quite right, however next time start your comment with "synopsis of the video"

I get what you're saying but, Why judge something so harshly before it's even out? Based on all the behind the scenes footage ive seen so far it actually looks genuinely good so i dunno if i were you i dont think it would hurt to at least give it a watch before deciding its going to be horrible 😅
This video was so damn lazy it made me physically cringe. Did you research anything at all? @@ObviousPuppet
You have no idea how good this show is tho fr fr !

Nah iy was Mike and Bryan who wanted to change things. Mike and Bryan kinda suck at writing as shown in Korra. They had no one reigning them in.
Love you!
