It is nice to see you appreciate and absorb the gorgeousness of this song. If you have not seen the 1941 movie, "The Maltese Falcon", that's where these voices come from. It was the first true, full-on Film Noir thriller, John Huston's first directing job, one for the ages.
Nice to see love for Vangelis… my favorite artist. His passing has darkened my world. Jon & Vangelis released four albums together, plus a “best of” compilation. There is so much to explore.
I can’t commend you enough for covering this track. Very few other reactors are covering Vangelis, they are all so predictable. I fully recommend the epic Jon & Vangelis track Horizon, it’s very beautiful and atmospheric. You’ll love it!!
As a 38-year-long Yes fan I’m ashamed I only heard this for the first time last year. What a gem! So evocative ❤ Apparently Jon is a big fan of gangster movies. Who’s have thought?
I still remember one summer day back in 81 or 82 when my brothers and I were sitting on my mom and dad's carport during a rain shower listening to our "boom box". We had it on "The Album Station, 95.1" (Charlotte), which, at the time was playing all the Van Halen, Molly Hatchett, Iron Maiden, Journey, etc, when Mr. Cairo happen to come on. We sat there memorized with the rain coming down and not saying a word until it finished. One of the very few times I ever heard this on the radio. It's a great memory of mine and hearing again always brings that day back to me. Still have the album, too. ***I shared this post on one of the other very few reactions to Mr. Cairo. Enjoyed your reaction!****
Hi ! It s been many years since i listen to that song ! I don t listen to radio much anymore ! I m sure they still play that song on the radio at night ! that was the most popular song from Jon & Vangelis ! It s impossible to not like that song !
lovely to hear this 'old friend' again with your reaction, A homage to the old movies and, their stars . If you play the whole thing, it gets quite beautiful, and rather moving. And of course being the wonderful chap you are - you did! and of course, my eyes filled with tears once again, listening to this beauteous atmospheric music............... Vangelis .... RIP.
Thank you my brother!🤗🥰 It's not often that I witness such a beautiful and pure reaction that takes a person out of their comfort zone. I have to admit, I believe that you have been short-changed regarding the wonderful world of rock music and it's facets. Again, thank you for the reaction.🤗🤗🤗🇨🇦
Thank you for remembering dear Vangelis with this wondrous tribute to cinema. He died May 17, 2022...a few days ago. Vangelis also composed the music to "Chariots of Fire". On this song, I always loved the part with the following lyrics. Is it the reverb that makes his voice so heavenly and spacy? I want that mic, that reverb, or whatever combination to get that effect. Bottom like though is that it is the purity of his voice which mirrors and projects the purity of his soul and spirit (circuits 7 & 8). "One on one to talk to you Like film stars they get close to you You've mirrored his appeal He wants you so, he wants to be beside you Then you pass by giving him the other side of you Like the mystics do So that every time he moves, he moves for you."
I remember reading *The Maltese Falcon* in high school and was so excited I knew of this song. No one else had heard of Jon and Vangelis. My teacher asked me to bring in the album and he played the song for the class when we were finished reading it. He gave me extra credit for bringing in an “outside source”😃
I played the heck out of this album, then the second album, then finally CDs came out. These guys really had a great sound when they got together. Jon always tells great stories about Vangelis when he performs one of their songs live. Thanks so much for reacting to this one.
on wrote the lyrics for this in one day while he was with Vangelis. Most of the inspiration I believe he said was taken by the movie The Maltese Falcon. Now that you heard the song , You should watch the movie, it's a good one and you can understand the mood of the music. yes the whole song was played on the radio! thanks for pulling this one out of the archives
Great reaction to a song I've loved since it was new. If you want more Jon and Vangelis, I feel their strongest album was Short Stories. Try out the song I Hear You Now if you will. I think you'll love it.
Great reaction, Pope! You are in for a real treat if you continue down the Vangelis and Jon & Vangelis rabbit hole. Some truly excellent music. The 22+ minute "Horizon" from their _Private Collection_ is a pure masterpiece. And R.I.P. to the great maestro, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou.
That woman. One moment she crying over Johnny getting shot full of holes not wanting to leave him. The next minute she wants to go shopping for a gown. Her buddy in crime has to appease her by promising to buy her the whole factory. A few seconds of Jimmy Stewart's voice. Background voices romanticizing exotic places that are definitely not what they used to be. This could have been a stage musical.
Hey man, just wanted to tell you that there's a great yt video where Jon tells the story about the first time he met Vangelis. You'll love it. Might even make a fun reaction video : )
My friend, very close to the pronunciation of Vangelis😊 Van-Ghel-Is. The G is a hard G as in girl. The emphasis is on the second syllable. The most important thing is your reaction. You appreciate such great music. Always a professional, thanks!!!!
One of the few "really long" songs by Jon & Vangelis. I know this song is very popular. I think the idea of the song is very nice and I like it too, but something is holding me back from loving it. Maybe you can listen to "Horizon" sometime. This is one of my favorite Jon & Vangelis songs. But there are also a lot of other wonderful songs from them waiting for you.
The vinyl album label has a map key for Tales of the topographic ocean The album starts where topographic ends Maltese Falcon on the topographic ocean art, as is head and shoulders shadow on the bottom right corner of tales art
Jon Anderson has said in several interviews that Quincey Jones personally told him this album inspired some of the music for Michael Jackson's "Thiller" album. I hear the synth baseline a bit in Billy Jean.
Vangelis couldn't write music, he had a lady writing as he composed his music. He also never had a music lesson. He, in my opinion was the best musician the world has ever seen. There is a 2 hour documentary about his life where he explains how he started playing music and it's shows the lady writing his music as he's playing.. Well worth a watch.
I've seen you do reactions to Pink Floyd and Yes but I don't think you've done a Grateful Dead song yet.....Some really great music there and there is alot of it. Maybe start with the studio version of "Shakedown Street" and then we have to turn you on to some "Live Dead" For that I would say we need to see you listen to Eyes of the World...let me find a link. ruclips.net/video/FtNGQiSRPI0/видео.html / and then there is this one Grateful Dead covering "Dancing in the Streets" ruclips.net/video/eV16Ysr03Vw/видео.html start with those three and of course there is the studio version of "Ripple"
Horizon is the very best Jon Anderson and Vangelis (pronounced ruclips.net/video/2lSvyv2X1eMt/видео.htmlrack) bar none, from the album Private Collection. You will love it!
Jon Anderson is great, but I just don't like most of Vangelis too much. I like to hear real instruments more than a lot of synthetic sounds. This sounds way too synthetic. Very very synth-pop.
Awesome song. You played great homage to it.
It is nice to see you appreciate and absorb the gorgeousness of this song.

State Of Independence, My favourite.
R.I.P. Vangelis.

Dude . The are some that may be jealous of the way u feel the music in your soul. Not everyone has that gift .
Thank you for this, This is one of my favourites.
BEAUTIFUL 😍

Because you did Vangelis. Great reaction! Subscribed.
I found this as a teenager and I’ve been a friend of mr. Cairo ever since
Thank you my brother!🤗🥰

This is a real work of musical art. I love ❤ it.
I like the way Vangelis mixed a bit of Vocoder into Jon's voice.
The most magical piece of music I have ever heard and I'm 57
I remember reading *The Maltese Falcon* in high school and was so excited I knew of this song. No one else had heard of Jon and Vangelis. Must have been a very good teacher.
the best J+V track, especially the second half when Jon gets to unleash, always gives me chills
Always loved this track - R I P Vangelis !!
The musical talent of Vangelis is beyond talent. It is like he is part of music. he lives the musical part of cosmos.
I played the heck out of this album, then the second album, then finally CDs came out. These guys really had a great sound when they got together. Jon always tells great stories about Vangelis when he performs one of their songs live. Thanks so much for reacting to this one.
Jon is rapping. Spitting bars. RIP Vangelis
This album makes me want to go and watch all those black and white gangster movies.
This whole album is worth listening to Pope! Sad to hear Vangelis is gone, was hoping for a reunion one day with Jon. RIP brother ❤️
Hey Pope! One of my favorites. R.I.P. Vangelis. 🔈🔉🔊⚘⚘⚘
The end to all our stories
on wrote the lyrics for this in one day while he was with Vangelis.

Holy crap I have known about this song for many years . Massive amounts of lyrics it is a true masterpiece
Great reaction to a song I've loved since it was new. If you want more Jon and Vangelis, I feel their strongest album was Short Stories. Try out the song I Hear You Now if you will. I think you'll love it.
This jam has an Ice-Cube vibe...

that first track is what stood out to me i love stuff that has a bunch of randomness but somehow the groove is still there
sooo good! thank you for this one!
Thanks for covering this...
thanks for watching 🙏🏿
song takes me back to when developed 1st little chubby
The Friends of Mr. Cairo is a masterpiece. My favorite Jon and Vangelis track is the epic Horizon!
'Short Stories' is my favorite Jon and Vangelis album. The first piece, 'Curious Electric' is my favorite.
Beautiful reaction you must do the album it is sublime

You would like John Barry Orchestra.

I read somewhere that this was the inspiration for Michael Jackson's smooth criminal song
and i highly recommend watching the movie The Bounty. Great great version of the Mutiny on the Bounty and you get the Vangelis score throughout
added to the movie list 📝
Marriage of genius
I mean, it's basically a gangsta rap song...before there were gangsta rap songs.
this track inspired the beat of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.
Okay, Pope you need to do State of Independence next off this album.
The vinyl album label has a map key for Tales of the topographic ocean The album starts where topographic ends Maltese Falcon on the topographic ocean art, as is head and shoulders shadow on the bottom right corner of tales art
This was good but the highlight of this record was State of Independence
Jon Anderson has said in several interviews that Quincey Jones personally told him this album inspired some of the music for Michael Jackson's "Thiller" album. I hear the synth baseline a bit in Billy Jean.
As much as I love YES, Jon Anderson never equalled his work with Vangelis, imo. Anderson's work with Kitaro is extraordinary as well...
If you're going to listen to the album, there are two versions. The later one has an extra track (I'll find my way home, I think).
the opening score to the Bounty: ruclips.net/video/IIz4KQgu4SA/видео.html and the closing: ruclips.net/video/Gcv0cdGRmKI/видео.html pure masterpiece
It is influence by The Maltese Falcon movie.
Try the 4 horsemen - aphrodite's child (1970), with Vangelis on keys
You are one of the very few your age that has ever heard this
do full album reaction!

aint this album a treat , hit a blunt and chill .
Jon Anderson is great, but I just don't like most of Vangelis too much. I like to hear real instruments more than a lot of synthetic sounds. This sounds way too synthetic. Very very synth-pop.
