Thanx for writing the words out. I never saw the lyrics for this…30 years ago when I first heard it, and I’ve listened to it 100 times. I heard at one point Jon tried to get Vangelis to play with Yes, but it never materialized.
There has always been beautiful music, but there won't be anything like that anymore .. unfortunately. Jon & Vangelis is a monument to music history 👌 Greetings from Germany💖
@@whodat3700I'll Find My Way Home was also a huge hit in Canada. They even released a special 12 inch 45RPM copy of the song with I hear You Now on the B side. I have two copies. It was bundled with their Short Stories album only in Canada.
No one could have sang this as well as Jon. Only Jon and his voice made this song possible and so damn great. A great song indeed, especially the end, "Did you see in the morning light I really talked, yes I did, to Gods early dawning light And I was privileged to be as I am to this day To be with you. To be with you"
This is such a great album. It has so many great songs. "State of Independence", "Now & Then", "Find My Way Home". I have been listening to this album for nearly 40 years & will continue to listen to it until the day that I die. 👍🏻
NOT under appreciated by me and buddies....I was 15yrs old when started listening to this quality of music. love it, and Dire Straits, Doors, etc etc soooo emotive for me.
This song came out when the members of Yes were venturing out on their own. The music that Jon Anderson did, in my opinion, was the best, especially when he teamed up with Evangolos Odysséus Papathanasiou (aka Vangelis).
Heard this the first time it was played on CHOM-FM Montreal Sept 81 when I got stranded in Vermont for a month. Bought the album the day after I got home to Houston.
In the 80s, Canadian DJs regularly played the short version of this song. One day, a Toronto radio station I listened to played the whole thing - maybe the DJ had to pop out for a sandwich. It blew my mind! I loved the 6-minute 'intro', but couldn't believe there was a whole other song, the most beautiful ballad, I'd never heard. Wondrous! x
Omg ! This music is soo amazing - it's pure nostalgia and beautiful to listen to. A classic that must be appreciated not forgotten or ignored - brilliant !
Thank you for the full version, I have not heard this in years but always loved it. A wonderful tribute to hollywood, actors, and creativity. Vangelis will be missed.
Heard this song today for the first time in a lifetime on KROQ Rock of the 80's. Took me right back to when I was a young Marine stationed in Southern California in the early 80's. Great song for some great memories and times.
I remember hearing this on the radio. No radio stations would dare play this now. They just keep playing the same tired old songs over and over and over and... I've heard "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Burnin' for You" enough to last the rest of my life.
I bought this when it first came out as a sophomore in high school. I have passed this on to my children as they know what is to be appreciated in music
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it . #1 Best. I am going to dedicate it to my dad. He just turned 87🎉. I know he would love this asich as I do. The memories are what makes it come alive . ❤. Thank You for the great work of art 🎭. *****.
I have been watching this for years & I LOVE it every time!! I'm 51 & a big fan of films from the 30's 40's 50's. If I'm back here again, that's the era I want to come back to. Thanks!!
Loved this song since it came out. A heartfelt tribute to classic Hollywood. All the voice overs are very well placed. One of my all time favourite toons
Jon Anderson and Peter Gabriel are my favourite male vocalists of all time. The second part of this song Jon's voice is incredibly moving. It's one of my favourite Jon "moments". Sublime.
I've known this song since the early 80's. I know it chapter and verse (and can do all the impersonations). This is a GREAT tribute. Nice work! Thx. for posting it.
One of the best songs of all time IMO. Lyrics are incredible. Reminds me of Steve Harleys Sebastian. Songs like these will never be made again. Just love it.
I picked it up in a record shop when I was a student in 88 or 89, it sounds amazing on my system. So many soundscapes. Fringe and reaching 50 brought me back to it ahaha
This is the first album I ever got ( jr. High girlfriend bought it for me as a birthday present). I was completely in awe of this piece... Love this whole record..
When you mention this spectacular song to people they look at with you a idiotic look on their faces. This song is so criminally underrated and yes the pun was fully intentional. It makes me think about my mom and uncle listening to it over and over in the summer of 1982 before he past away.
I remember this first time I heard this masterpiece. My brothers and I were bored and and sitting on our parents carport listening to "95Q, The Album Station". It was raining and we were just listening to our boombox. Loved it from the start.
Funny, I live in Edmonton in Canada and this song was huge. Went to number 1. I looked this song up and apparently Canada was the only place it was big. They would even play this whole song on the radio. I think Game without Frontiers by Peter Gabriel was huge around the same time so you had these two different songs out at the same time. It was pretty cool
@@whodat3700 Your message put a smile on my face because I love this song and never realized it was because probably because I experienced it while living in Edmonton when I was younger. Probably on K-97 (I wonder if that station is still around). Greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia!!
Vangelis is a living treasure trove of unique and beautiful singing abilities that touch untapped musical and thought provoking avenues of the spirit and harmonic soul. His incredible insights speak to his gift.In a world where we are routinely subjected to mass produced mindless dribble and corporate crap, vangelis brings a sense of beauty in a world chock full of distractions and annoyance! When i bike ride i pass the monotony listening to his soothing lyrics, just fnng outstanding!
This is truthfully an amazing piece of work. I used to listen to this with my 7 yrs old son and my cousin. Oh truly is amazing. Plus old Hollywood classics interwoven.
Wow! Despite being a Yes and Vangelis fan since the '70s, I'm new to this song. I love it. And I loved playing identify the film star in the video. Very moving. Thank you.
I remember listening to this in the early eighties on these thin fibre six foot speakers - what a sound. I will never forget that. I think that this tune is one of the all time greats.
THANK YOU so much for posting this masterpiece and for listing the actors' names! The number of times I've tried to work out what they're laughing about right at the end! SUCH a shame Nemo Studios in Hampton Gurney Street, W1 in London, where so many classic Vangelis and Jon and Vangelis albums were recorded was not preserved as a site of musicological importance. The building is now a block of flats I believe! But everything Vangelis wrote between about 1976 and around 85-6, when he moved to France was recorded at Nemo. As a student I went down one day, having read the address in a NME article at the time on Vangelis, and being the cocky 18 year old Music Conservatoire youth that I was, I knocked on the door - not entirely sure what it was I was going to say! Alas the great man himself was not there, but I had a lovely conversation with a chap from the floor below in the staircase, leaning on about 5 brand new Yamaha DX7s, that were just leaning up against the wall! All these years later, with my opera career now behind me, due to long term illness, I'm trying to find out what kind of life I might have had, had I not chosen to sing, and instead followed my fascination for electronic music. That's why - in a recent Jean-Michel Jarre remix competition on metapop.com I remixed JMJ's "Robots Don't Cry" IN THE STYLE OF FRIENDS OF MR CAIRO!! I enjoy bucking the trend!! My 'stagename' Classicalbanksy and debut album title "Transgenre" are testament to that! I hope you enjoy - and love and thanks to both Jon and the great man himself!! soundcloud.com/classicalbanksy/robots-dont-cry-the-mega-remix
Boy, I love this well created music by the duo. Beautiful....got to watch the Maltese falcon again...😀 citizen cane too...al Capone too. What a smart/great music.
I remember this being played on the radio back when I was in Jr. High. This is a lost classic. Also Jon Anderson's "Cage of Freedom". Never hear them on classic rock stations.
Also check out an early King Crimson song that features Jon Anderson on lead vocals (Lizard suite): ruclips.net/video/SUc8luH-I6c/видео.html. I think this is also a great song outside of Yes.
I think the reining in of Jon Andersons lyrics works for the better than most of the incomprhensible nonsense in the Yes albums. I agree its one of the best songs along with State Of Independence
Fantástico tema musical. Y la voz de yhonn anderson inigualable. Recuerdo cuando apareció este disco...fue impresionante y el disco editado en Inglaterra tenia un bonos trak
A real Masterpiece of music !!! Only Shine on You crazy Diamond , While my guitar gently weeps and those are on this level !!! Its what's heard in Heaven !!!
This is probably my favourite fan video. Really. It is a beautiful tribute. ==== Sometimes, Jon can sing something quite profound, hidden amongst whatever imagery he was spinning elsewhere. "Then you pass by, giving him the other side of you Like the mystics do So that every time he moves, he moves for you."
I heard this on the radio a few times in my bedroom when i was a teen then haven't heard it again for 26 years. Always looked for it only knowing a few words and chords. "Johnny's gonna die" Finally found it last May i was Ecstatic!
Unbelievable, 19 people find this song and the accompanying video clips offensive? Master piece of work, creating this montage of classic films, dsteamer100!
Remember commuting to college daily in 1982. Radio station in St. Louis Kshe-95 played every Friday morning during rush hour. You could tell who had it on in their cars flying down the highway. 19 yo then!
I love your dedication and tribute to cinema, however I must admit that I'm here for the song. This song is wonderful, and while it may be first, it's by no means second that you've included such beautiful film to walk it hand in hand. The intermission was genius. Thank you.
This is absolutely brilliant..it is beyond words. If I recall this was deleted or blocked by RUclips a while back and I was stunned. DSteamer100 has brought it back in all it's glory. I have a media room in my desert home and a projector that fills an entire wall. Every so often friends, fam, and neighbors come over for "Silver Screen" night to keep the movies of the past alive. This was/is the intermission clip I play and everyone loves it. It is truly timeless...Thank You DSteamer100.
3 years after my original comment, and after watching a number of the classic films you've used in this tribute, I found my eyes welling with tears at the love you have put into making this. Bravo my friend .. one of my favourite videos on youtube and one I will come back to again and again.
I heard this before i knew there was this song. Its been the reoccurring soundtrack to a nightmere where im being chased. ive had this nightmere since I was a child. But the same beat, the bass beat tothis song ive heard for about 40 years now way before this was written
It really amazes me that Vangelis (and John in this case) video's are not taken down on RUclips, because of rights. Which is a great thing, don't get me wrong please. This video is already up for 7 years now and still is here. So thanks for uploading this back then Dsteamer100. Specially this lp (cd) of Vangelis is one of my all time favorites!!! Leon
I have all the album collaborations between Jon Anderson and Vangelis. (Also a big fan of Yes}. Their albums are all great and varied and this track is totally unique not only to these talented musicians but to all music produced in the last 50+ years.
41 years listening to this masterpiece and so on until the end. This kind of music doesn't exist anymore, enjoy it.
I was just thinking the same thing.
Jon shines like a diamond in this beautiful song.
It still exists, but you have to dig for it.
Oh yes it does. You arent paying attention

Okay, this is the picture
Johnny's been hurt, he's hurt bad
Look, we can't leave him here, we can't
Look, he's in a pool of blood, he's gonna die, I know it
We've gotta leave him here, honey, we gotta
He won't talk, I promise you that, will you Johnny?
Frankie, I don't care whether he talks or not
I just can't leave him like this
Listenm leave me here, I can handle it
Oh, Johnny, no
The cops are outside, Luke is in the car
Come on, let's get the hell outta this joint
Frankie, when they get here we're gonna be dead
I know we are, we don't have a gun (Listen, we got three million)
Listen, Spud, we got three million in the can, here
We'll look after him, I'll send the bird to his mother
Come on, let's just get out of this place, we can do it
Oh, Johnny, no
Frankie: Okay now, just lean up against that door. When I give the word "Go" we just..., we just go through it and blast at the same time.
She came, as in the book, Mickey Spillane
That Saturday night dark masquerade
Had filled his friend with lead, the same, sweetheart
But then, as nothing happens quite the same
Investigation is the game
He had to check her story right away-he dead
Sam Spade his buddy Archer first to go he got it
She spelt it out, how could they know the 'Fatman' got it -he dead
Her sister didn't really live at all-confusion-he dead
His chase led to the Fatman, to face the friends of Mr. Cairo
Woman: Hey, there's a really terrific dress shop. Can we stop this raid while I buy a new gown?
Frankie: I'll buy you the whole factory, sweetheart. Don't worry.
That night, the double crosser got it right
Pretending he was really dim
He slipped to Sam a double gin (Mickey Finn)
He woke, the boys had gone, but not his gun
They'd left a note to lead him on
The chase to find the Maltese Falcon-you bet-
Early thirties gangster movies
Set to spellbind population
From Chicago to Hong Kong
Via Istanbul the Talking Tong
Dirty rats through' prohibition
Money flowed through gangsterism
Acting out this fantasy
In Hollywoods vicinity
The best part for the best rendition
Al Capone he sent to prison
Citizen Kane came fast and quickly
Conquering ol' New York City
Poking fun at superstition
Media became television Give me Cagney anyday
Or Jimmy Stewart for President
Or Edward 'G' and all those guys
Who always shoot between the eyes
Between the eyes
Between the eyes
Kasper: ha, ha, well done Mr. Cairo, and what do you have to say about that, my friend?
Spade: Allright. So you've got me in it. What about her?
Brigid: Don't worry about me, I'm okay
Kasper: Very magnanimous, sir, very magnanimous indeed, ha, ha, ha
Mr. Cairo: You mean..., you won't make us an offer we... we can't refuse...
Father love do you work, do you work for Mother
Chances could call, and accept that, be no other
Science as it might, disappear correspond with colour
Chance is the fruit, will outlive, what is now the brother
Call for total wealth to distribute like a picture
In black and white, give it joy, give it, let it hit you
Spoil our existence by extreme gift to population
Father love do you work, do you work for Mother
Tell me straight be the Godfather be no other
Media Kings give us now give us total movie
Straight right now, give it clear, give us total movie
Now being here, being now, being here believing
Man: I don't know which words to put in there sweetheart, you know, I can't do it. Pretty kind of useless, though, don't you think so Mary?
Man: Come with me to the far lands of Baghdad.
Woman: Oh, if only I could. That's what I want more than anything in the world, but it could never be...
Man: Of course it can...
Woman: But my father would find us wherever we went. Yes, he has forbidden me to... to even speak to you, if he finds me now. I don't know what he'd do...
Man: But he doesn't know that I'm... I'm a prince. Before, I was the thief of Baghdad now...
Woman: It doesn't matter...
Man: Then follow me, darling, follow me now to the ends of the Earth
One on one to talk to you
Like film stars they get close to you
You've mirrored his appeal
He wants you so, he wants to be beside you
Then you pass by giving him the other side of you
Like the mystics do
So that every time he moves, he moves for you
Soul and light can always see
The meeting of true love and she
This silent night and I,
I guess a lonely mind might see
I've seen love on the screen
I've seen a screen goddesss and me-oh
How often this, how often, this the power of you
And so, I must confess
Whatever I see
I'm meant to be there with you
With you with you
Silent golden movies, talkies, technicolour, long ago
My younger ways stand clearer, clearer than my footprints
Stardom greats I've followed closely Closer than the nearest heartbeat
Longer that expected-ther were great-
Oh love oh love just to see them
Acting on the silver screen, oh my
Clark Gable, Fairbanks, Maureen O'Sullivan
Fantasy would fill my life and I
Love fantasy so much
Did you see in the morning light
I really talked, yes I did, to Gods early dawning light
And I was privileged to be as I am to this day
To be with you. To be with you
Mr. Cairo: Listen. I have arranged this display for... for all of you people to... to come here this evening and I... I know you have been searched, but, what you... you don't realize is, is that in the back of the Maltese Falcon, I have it ..

it's one of those songs that once it starts, you listen all the way to end although it is a fairly long track. timeless, magnificent.

Just awesome. I'm playing this in my mind at work everywhere, all week, bought it when it came out. Wow, just wow, brings tears to my eyes.........
+amfanmagician I am privileged to be as I am to this day to be with you , to be with you..........
Hey, yer not alone weeping for this well-decorated heartfelt music...but then, welcome to 2020....
It really was the end of the Prog rock era. And Jon was there almost at the very beginning with Yes. He was a visionary and an extraordinary talent.
When you mention this spectacular song to people they look at with you a idiotic look on their faces. This song is so criminally underrated and yes the pun was fully intentional. It makes me think about my mom and uncle listening to it over and over in the summer of 1982 before he past away.
It is funny feeling to remind yourself where did your mind wander while listening to that album.
I remember this first time I heard this masterpiece. My brothers and I were bored and and sitting on our parents carport listening to "95Q, The Album Station". It was raining and we were just listening to our boombox. Loved it from the start.
The problem is that many people never heard this, and it's a damn shame, cause it's a classic
*because it's a classic.
I bought the album the year it came out. Jon Andersen is brilliant.
Just proud I know all the words. RIP musical genius!
Back when movies were more than real!Thank you for old memories!!!
Wow...this song takes me to places that are ancient and wonderful! Thanks for the memories!
What an awsome song, always wondered about the voice sounding like yes, now i know !
I was nuts about this song as a kid! All the spy intrigue 😅
A great tribute to classic movies! Gosh. That flying carpet ride!!!the lyrics...
Starts as great fun and then 7 minutes in it just turns into the magic and enchantment of the films they are describing. Beautiful.
Absolument formidable; effectivement, probablement l'un des moments musicaux les plus inoubliables. Fantastique!
Without doubt, the greatest thing Jon Anderson did outside Yes.
humbly disagree
Also check out an early King Crimson song that features Jon Anderson on lead vocals (Lizard suite): ruclips.net/video/SUc8luH-I6c/видео.html. I think this is also a great song outside of Yes.
I think the reining in of Jon Andersons lyrics works for the better than most of the incomprhensible nonsense in the Yes albums. I agree its one of the best songs along with State Of Independence
@@skyblazeeterno you seen his cameo in heaven and hell by vangelis?
or in high places by mike oldfield
Fantástico tema musical. Y la voz de yhonn anderson inigualable. Recuerdo cuando apareció este disco...fue impresionante y el disco editado en Inglaterra tenia un bonos trak
A real Masterpiece of music !!!
Only Shine on You crazy Diamond , While my guitar gently weeps and those are on this level !!!
Its what's heard in Heaven !!!
His music is PURRfection. ❤
Beautifully and brilliantly done. Thank you for capturing the TRUE spirit of a great song.
Emouvant d'écouter ce compositeur génial et d'avant garde qui vient de nous quitter ...
Quite simply the best progressive song of all time. RIP Vangelis.
I love this song since 1982
my favourite song ever.. its beyond mere words.
The best video to go with this epic song.... My sympathies to all who didn't get to at least glimpse the golden age of Hollywood in retrospect.
Bravo, to those that say time travel is impossible. Well, they simply miss it.
Great post.
What a beautiful homage to the Golden Age of cinema.
Didn't discover this gem until 1989, and only the second half of it which I'm more partial to. Beautiful piece.
Wow, this song brings me back to a time when I was still young and stupid.....and enjoyed every precious moment.
this composition of music and images is ....wow. I have no words. only tears
Oh, wow! One of my favorite songs I've played over and over and swayed in dance!
This is probably my favourite fan video. Really. It is a beautiful tribute.

Sometimes, Jon can sing something quite profound, hidden amongst whatever imagery he was spinning elsewhere.
"Then you pass by, giving him the other side of you
Like the mystics do
So that every time he moves, he moves for you."
I haven't heard this song since I was 15! For the longest time, I thought it was called the Gangster Chronicles. What a gem!
the best song i ever heard in my life
.
35 years...I can't even begin to explain what an incredible artist this is...
Glad to know you Sergey...I love your Arm Wrestling champion Denis Chyplenkov...Suoer badass Arm Wrestler...he will dominate the earth...Ol Sarge...
This is one of my all time favorite tunes I would describe it in two words as melancholy and wistful. Thanks very much for posting the whole tune
jon anderson verdaderamente tiene una voz unica celestial
As a lover of old movies and this song, this was the best tribute and version of this tune I have ever seen. Well done, well done.
I heard this on the radio a few times in my bedroom when i was a teen then haven't heard it again for 26 years.
Always looked for it only knowing a few words and chords. "Johnny's gonna die"
Finally found it last May i was Ecstatic!
Unbelievable, 19 people find this song and the accompanying video clips offensive?
Master piece of work, creating this montage of classic films, dsteamer100!
Why do you assume they find it offensive? Not everyone is a snowflake. Perhaps they’re disappointed by the sound quality.
Goodbye vangelis. Thanks for ur music.
Remember commuting to college daily in 1982. Radio station in St. Louis Kshe-95 played every Friday morning during rush hour. You could tell who had it on in their cars flying down the highway. 19 yo then!
Too bad so many do not grasp, deserve music of this creativity
How many times have I watched this video in the last month, my abacus doesn't count that high?
I love your dedication and tribute to cinema, however I must admit that I'm here for the song. This song is wonderful, and while it may be first, it's by no means second that you've included such beautiful film to walk it hand in hand. The intermission was genius. Thank you.
Gets every time, in tears again Tears of love and joy, regret! Who knows song just gets me every single time!!!
You put a lot of work and hearth to this film. I'm sure lots of vievers here appreciate it as much as i do
RiP Vangelis. Thank you for your interpretation of music and exploration.
Certainly one of the most original and beautiful songs of all time and a fitting video to go with it ... well done and thanks !
3 years after my original comment, and after watching a number of the classic films you've used in this tribute, I found my eyes welling with tears at the love you have put into making this. Bravo my friend .. one of my favourite videos on youtube and one I will come back to again and again.
Jon Andersen is the best vocalist of all time. FIGHT ME!
And I'm back again 3 years later ! Still love this song and this video.
Thanks!
*most* original-
I heard this before i knew there was this song. Its been the reoccurring soundtrack to a nightmere where im being chased. ive had this nightmere since I was a child. But the same beat, the bass beat tothis song ive heard for about 40 years now way before this was written
Dream control victim here.
🤪
It really amazes me that Vangelis (and John in this case) video's are not taken down on RUclips, because of rights. Which is a great thing, don't get me wrong please. This video is already up for 7 years now and still is here. So thanks for uploading this back then Dsteamer100. Specially this lp (cd) of Vangelis is one of my all time favorites!!!
Leon
Edward G. and all those guys
Who always shoot between the eyes
between the eyes!
I have all the album collaborations between Jon Anderson and Vangelis. (Also a big fan of Yes}. Their albums are all great and varied and this track is totally unique not only to these talented musicians but to all music produced in the last 50+ years.
This is a fantastic song and film, loved it since I first heard it on the radio in 1981!!!
Witam 👌 Świat Jeszcze tego nie widział.🤔Ja tak . Dziękuję.👍😎✌️🇵🇱
One of the all-time best.
Brilliant! Just brilliant. I know I'm an old fart, even at 51. But god I loved this era of film. Nostalgia 101 Thank you SO much
