I looked around and after much consideration i went for the hero 5 black, spent a week or so testing it out for what I intend to use it for that is mountain biking. I did various tests and i came up with the following settings that seem to work well. Resolution 2-7K '30FPS in superview, flat profile in protune, kelvin scale for WB, ISO at 400, auto shutter speed, EV comp adjusted for the conditions, sharp low and audio high. I use those settings for on bike footage taken from a chest mount, however for "B" roll stuff where I wanna slow it down i use 1080p @240 FPS in wide view. I did some tests adding this to a 2-7K timeline in my editor and i slowed it down and speed ramped it down to 25% and it works brilliantly!! I turn off GPS and I do not pair it with my phone, I have LEDs all off, i do use voice commands, auto off is set to never, screensaver is turned off, video format is set to NTSC (despite being in a PAL region) I colour correct using DaVinci resolve and it works great. I shot in 2-7K but downsampled it to 1080p on the video output and it looks just great!! In my opinion most of the problems surrounding these action cameras arise from improper use. Most people want to shoot at 4/5 K with a high FPS with very little proper ventilation. for extended amounts of time DO NOT DO THIS!!!! If you purchase this camera make sure you buy a PROPER SD CARD i use a Sandisk 128 GbV30 u3 A2 and i have no issues with freezing or overheating at all. I also purchased a couple of extra batteries complete with a charger via USB (Artman from amazon) Do not use this for talking heads vlogging at 4K and the highest FPS it will overheat !! I thoroughly recommend this camera i got mine down at MPB in the UK great value at around £150 i bought a chest mount and mounting case and it all works perfectly
This video was very helpful. I'm currently looking for a camera to use for a few purposes and the gopros seemed to have some of the best video qualities outside of the professional market. One thing I would've liked to see in this video is which notable features were added in later gopro versions which would be lacking here.
Bought my hero 5 last summer on ebay for $150.00 plus a few accessories. I'm using it as one of my go to cameras of starting my RUclips channel. Great review thank you very much.
Appreciate this video. Just picked up a hero5 black after watching this. Payed $100 with tons of accessories and batteries. First GoPro so didn’t want to break the bank in case I don’t actually use it. Plan to use to record or sxs adventures.
Hi interesting this video, I need a quick suggestion please: I will use the Action Cam only under the sea about 20-25 meters deep and without lamps. What interests me most is the video quality. In your opinion is it better to buy the Akaso V50x or GoPro 5 Hero Session Black with waterproof case? I thank you.
How dark does it get at that depth with out lamps? Low light will hurt the quality in these small sensors. Noise reduction in post edit can only do so much. I have the hero 5 Black, but I’ve never gone near that depth with it.
I have used my hero 5 since the day I bought it 3.5 years ago and it's still doing a really good job for me today. cheers for the video fella.

I still use a Hero 5 Session. Yet to find a smaller lighter (72g) camera with better video quality.

I think to buy it now, to save money. It will be my first go pro camera.
Thank you for the information! Very helpful.
why does 1080 p look better than 4k? never understood this.
is there any way to remove the hissing noise when recording? is there possibly a setting or maybe a foam you can add ontop of the mic?
I think it’s the case. Not really sure.
