Utterly brilliant live band. This video is from 2006. Focus in 2009 sounds even better. "New" Dutch guitar hero Niels van der Steenhoven goes really from strenght to strenght. Currently they're touring the UK. A MUST SEE for people who love REAL MUSIC!!
To magiczne, genialne PRZEDSTAWIENIE, cudo!
Saw the old maestro Thijs Van Leer and the band last night in Cardiff for the first time since 1974! Excellent -they captured the attention of their audience for a whole 2 hours with their combined musical talent. Great to see Pierre van der Linden make the old Focus sound truly genuine. As for Thijs - what a brilliant eccentric!
With a lot of older groups I prefer to listen to older material and older live footage, but Focus are the exception. I find myself coming back to these newer concerts. They are very good. Somehow, Pierre has gotten even better.
What a superb band. Many thanks Thijs, Pierre, Niels & Bobby for the wonderful gig on Saturday 12th October at The Regent Centre, Christchurch, Dorset. The live atmosphere was magic, as was also the music. We are hoping to catch you all on Tour again, in the UK, very soon. P.S. Thank you for playing Sylvia. Keep Touring and Rocking guys****for ever!! Sylvia, Mike, & Nathan.
Superb! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Thijs And Company, PLEASE book a tour of the States. WE MISS YOU! Utterly beautiful, classy performance. You're a lucky man, avdeur. And a huge "Thanks so much!" to focustheband for posting this video!
That was amazing. What an amazing drum solo at the end. everything was just so cool and creative for a 17 minute song. I'm going to listen to everything they've ever done now.
Thijs van Leer & Pierre van der Linden are still as creative and tight as ever. The new players are excellent and the new stuff is damn fine! I love the old stuff with Jan and Bert cos it reminds me of when I was young and it was all new, but this is a worthy new phase. Thanks for posting
What a great music, it was old when i heard this for the first time in the 90`s. But became one of my favorite musics, for many reasons. I don`t knowe where all the good musicians gone...
amazing, beautiful made me think about all the good things in life and keep on wondering and dreaming about all the good things to come too :) love this prog rock shit
It's great to hear todays-songs like "NEVER MISS A BEAT" (Kaiser Chiefs) What the today-bands (2010, I write) never seem to know is.... in the 70-ties... NOT ONE SINGLE BEAT WAS MISSED, but that was considered utter basics,. We made no songs about that item, WE LIVED IT TRU AND TRU. I STILL DO. Bernard
This song is very easy to listen to and enjoyable. Musically, these guys are just phenomenal. I always enjoyed the song Hocus Pocus and wondered what happened to this band. I'm glad they're still making music.
I saw FOCUS newskin a couple of years ago. And the Jan Akkerman-band last year in 2009 in Holand that is. I can't but say...I saw two so perfectly genuine revelations and exceptional musical venues. I did. Bernard
This is progrock heaven! I've been searching for this for...ever! No need to try to find mere words to describe my joy in experiencing this music once more...and with live concert video to boot! SWEET!
This band was 25 years or so ahead of their time in 73 and they still are incredible. I don't know about the new gutiar player because I have not heard him, but the original guy's technique was way ahead of it's time.
Really amazing playing by Niels van der Steenhoven, as good a tribute as one could possibly give to the ground breaking guitar playing of Jan Akkerman in Focus; but only made possible by the genius of Thijs van Leer's compositions
The second "Orfeus" section in this song is actually an excerpt from Bela Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra" (1943) which was his last work. It is now in public domain, but was still in copyright when Focus' "At the Rainbow" was recorded in 1973.
Maaan it's the first time that I see this band ever... I'm shocked!!! How didn't I know them before??? This is the real music from rock the jazz, classic to bossa nova, blues to progressive... No more words...
Wonderful version! I particulary like the B-part from 4:51. I think that part is even better than the original! Wasn't that once released as a seperate song, called "Tommy"?
This is the music of Focus, enjoy it like myself and millions more. Ok it is not the Focus of old but the new lineup is amazing and they are a joy to watch and listen to. I was in Holland a few weeks ago and it brought it all back, live at the rainbow, what an album. We like focus if you are not a fan please leave at the exit
@ollie3 Actually I was a vitamin at the orange :D I learned all those progressive/jazz rock bands from my father and then by myself... King Crimson, Camel, Yes, Traffic, Mahavishnu Orch... more and more... But I was really surprised after I saw this video accidentally...
Mr.Van Lear is so cool.I bet he never plays a song the same way twice. Funny to see him pushing drawbars with his flute and playing the flute one handed. I think he's playing the digital Hammond B-3000. That's a new look because back in the 70s they historically didn't have B-3s in Europe. He was usually playing a spinet hammond. He's up and down on the Leslie way more than anyone else I've ever seen. Great talent. Bigger than life. I have all the records on 33 1/3. Guitar man shreded.Way cool!
This is not fair. I've been a Yes Fan / Purple Fan / Every fan of this type of music since I was 5 years old.. Why the hell did I miss out on these guys? Amazing, shivers up the spine.
Just back from seeing Focus tonight, for the second time this year. Excellent again. Great flute, drums, organ and lead guitar. They are all very good. We also saw Jan Akkermann in the same venue earlier this year, and he was good too, but Focus were better.
Those trains are damned spooky the way they sit in that moving cloudscape. In reality they were trains that were shipped to Uyuni, Bolivia in the early 20th century but never used.
ETERNAS !!!
Saw them in Derby with my mates band , Martin Turners wishbone Ash, Danny Wilson . Check them out Phil great band, Misha Nickolic on second guitar and Tim on drums, Danny & Tim both from leicester 🎶
Niels is soooo underrated i.m.h.o. ... love his playing!
I was very young when i heard this, still sounds beautiful as ever this is so DEEP!!
When I think of bands who have been ignored and underappreciated Focus are at the top of my list. Even w/o Akkerman they are still great.
More than 30 + years and it still sounds cutting edge. a modern classic!
All graduates of the Music Conservatory, these ' boys ' always humbly graced the GLOBAL PROGRESSIVE SYMPHONIC ROCK list !
Wow, wow, wow...I know this is old schol, hippy stuff but its the best music i've heard in a while...reminds me a bit of Zapa as well
I must say I'm impressed by the guitar work! This guy is amazing!
The best Focus formation: very good sound, clean and perfect tempo !!!
The new youth of Thijs van Leer !
To magiczne, genialne PRZEDSTAWIENIE, cudo!
Focus- Along with CAMEL and King Crimson, are the most underrated treasures in Progressive Rock. Thank you for bringing them to RUclips!
goin to see these guys next month. Its amazin that all most of my friends havent heard of Focus. Absolutely breathtaking! They know how to rock.
This is only the second time I have heard this band but I am soooo hooked!
Amazing. Heaps of feeling all across this piece. I'm officially stunned.

Best part of the song - 11:30
The man is an off world soul.
This is one of my all time favorite musics!
Thanks so much for uploading!
Seeing them in november. Selecta!
That flute and Voice gives me goosebumps.
Love this!
What a great music, it was old when i heard this for the first time in the 90`s. But became one of my favorite musics, for many reasons. I don`t knowe where all the good musicians gone...
I travelled all the way from Zürich to the Netherlands (by train off course) to see them live, and it was definitively worth it!
One the best songs of all time, great to see Focus still at it!!
amazing, beautiful made me think about all the good things in life and keep on wondering and dreaming about all the good things to come too :)
love this prog rock shit
Excellent. Just about as good as their original! Amazing!!!
WOW...Bravo...I still re herse to this music to this day...No bands hold candles to Prog Rock Bands from the 70's and 80's
It's great to hear todays-songs like "NEVER MISS A BEAT" (Kaiser Chiefs)

There are so many 15 year old kids who like Focus and Jethro Tull. I was fifteen myself four years ago and I like both Focus and Jethro Tull.
This song is very easy to listen to and enjoyable. Musically, these guys are just phenomenal.
I always enjoyed the song Hocus Pocus and wondered what happened to this band. I'm glad they're still making music.
Que timbre lindo o do guitarrista!
I saw FOCUS newskin a couple of years ago.
And the Jan Akkerman-band last year in 2009 in Holand that is.

eruption was always one of my top epics right up there with tarkus, suppers ready or gates of delirium! classic.
Yeah, guys you're right. This is Pierre Van Der Linden.
Saw them live some years ago;fantastic reincarnation of Focus!
This is progrock heaven! I've been searching for this for...ever! No need to try to find mere words to describe my joy in experiencing this music once more...and with live concert video to boot! SWEET!
Saw them at Cambridge Rock Fest, them again last night in Southend. Totally in a class of their own. Love Nils playing & tone.
This band was 25 years or so ahead of their time in 73 and they still are incredible.
I don't know about the new gutiar player because I have not heard him, but the original guy's technique was way ahead of it's time.
They're always been one of my favourite ever, since I heard them first, in 1972!

That backdrop on the stage really adds to this performance. Something about that massive human built machinery - it just works!!
I totally love this live version of Eruption. I wish they play in Spain someday.
Focus rock! this version of Eruption is just as moving as the original 37 years ago!
This band is pure genius!
This BOY GOT SOUL!!! I have never seen a white, big boy play like that in my life,,,gives the rest of us some hope!!!Mindi

Flawlessly beautiful. Wow that pulls me.

This is an ultimate musician experience!
one of my favourites ;)
Saw them with Strawbs and Wishbone Ash, those two should have stayed home and let Focus have 3 hours.
I was blown away.

Love those lyrics.
I totally agree , Akkerman was the one who inspired me to the play the guitar years back.
they are playing liverpool in Oct! Yey! Gonna book my tickets.
17 minutes just passed away. This is good music!
Can't get to much of this, great music, thank you so much.
Glad to see you back. Next time please make a visit to California!!!
