What is the output level of the iridium? line level, mic level, instrument level? I hope you say its line level, because that is what is necessary to run direct to consoles and maintain signal integrity.
Iridium's output level really depends on what you're running into the pedal (whether that is line level or instrument) and what you have the pedal's DRIVE and LEVEL set to. It can easily reach line level output. If you have an interface with selectable inst/line inputs, I'd set it to line level unless it's too quiet, then set it to instrument.
Can you use just as an IR box for when using with a real amp and load box like a Two Notes Captor? To save on wear and tear, I do not like using my amp just for practice etc, but would like it wired up to a single unit that does IRs that lets me decide if I want to use the amp, or the amp models -- the idea being that I do not have to change cables or DAW input setting etc. Edit: I found the answer hidden in a tab "Want to use Iridium’s IR cabinets but not the amps? Engage Iridium’s Amp Bypass mode, and connect a preamp or preamp pedal". P.S. As this already does DAC well, then adding line outputs for running monitors, plus USB audio so it can be the primary sound device in OS would be killer. That would make my interface redundant. Include digital that an option mic pre can connect to. P.P.S I do almost all post cabinet reverbs in DAW. As far as I can tell Strymon do not do plugins. Oh well.
I just bought this iridium and love the sound when I tried at the store, but when I plugged into my speaker at home, using Laney Acoustic Duo, instead of drive sound from iridium, I only can hear the sound of very clean sound from iridium, even with maximum drive knob and the amp in punch mode….could you help to explain this? I was expecting the drive through iridium and Laney acoustic duo🙏🙏🙏 thank you in advance

Hi Michael, can you send us an email at support@strymon.net and that way Gohan or Hugo can help troubleshoot what might be going on with your set up. Thanks!!
Great stuff! Help me understand... how do the stereo amp setup differ, say in, headphones. How would it be different from sum mono or stereo. I understand it’s the same amp for both left and right, but can it be with slightly diff settings?
A stereo IR uses at least two mics to create a sense of space. It's slight but it is different than mono. Picture a real amp in the room. Even though it's one thing, your two ears discern the space. Nothing in real life is mono ;) More importantly, the main benefit is that you can have stereo pedals in front of it and they won't get summed.
Hey @Strymon, if this doesn't typically go into your amplifier for live use, do you need any sort of power amp pedal? I'm thinking like the Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170.
If you plan on connect straight into a speaker cabinet, then, yes, you can use something like that Duncan pedal to power a speaker cab to use with this. However, if you plan on using the amp and IR cab processing, you should get a full range/flat response speaker (not a regular guitar speaker cab) for the full frequency sound of Iridium to shine.

@Luke Robinett If you are planning bypassing the cab on Iridium and using it as a preamp, you'd want it in front of the amp. I suppose you could have it in the effects loop too, and have it be preamp of amp into Iridium, no right or wrong way :)
Im sitting in a big studio with a high end tube amp in the other room, mic'ed up and coming through the same set of monitors I'm listening to this on. Really hard to tell until you play one, but the clean examples I heard were still struggling for life. 4:30 you can really hear what i mean. same with 6:00. Were getting better in terms of "closer" but this still isnt "it"
What quality is it you are missing? Just interested to know what you'd like to hear more of. Different topic somewhat, but yesterday I watched Universal Audio's product launch video and Cory Wong, who is really known for his clean sound, came in and showed how he uses UAD plugins with no amps to build most of Vulfpeck's recordings. He had specific EQ tweaks to make up for no amp and it sounded good to my ears. I'm a tube amp guy, but this Strymon was satisfying to me.
Its a different spectrum of color. a depth in feeling, push and pull from the amp. when you hit it, it hits back. i was watching these guys dig in at some point where the amp should be more dynamic and it wasn't giving back. It was struggling to give that organic sustain and longevity. Theres also a major difference between sitting in a mix and stand alone. I think this is a great tool, Theres going to be a lot of players that don't want a Axe or Helix that would benefit from direct live. As a producer, I'm rooting for this technology, so i can show up to sessions with this, instead of a expensive Matchless or bogner. but as of now, listening to the samples provided, with a real amp mic'ed up, through the same set of monitors. Real amp is the clear pick. I have all of the Uad amps, the Wav bundles, plugin galore. They're all still missing something.
I thought it was a NUX 😝.....just kidding....it was great to see this product, ive been searching for the right amp and ir cab in a pedal enclosure for playing live....the already products out theres is not good enough for me, it still retain the high end sizzles for my taste...except for the two notes torpedo like cab m, it was good, but its digital and its hard to make a lil adjustment when playing one question, beside for playing direct is this pedal can be use for playing in the front of the amp?? It would be great too if it can be a normal od pedal....
As Iridium has both amp and IR cab processing, you will not get the best results if you feed all that straight into another amp. But you can bypass the IR CABs and feed the amp modeling into the power amp input/effects return on an amplifier to use Iridium as your preamp.
Works great! There are some examples here and other Iridium videos from reviewer that had early access that use pedals in front of it to show how it handles them.
Forrester Payne it’s a multi effects. It’s a little brother to the big Helix. You can still get a amp, cab sim and effects all in one. It’s definitely something to look into. Way more amp choices, Cabs and effects.

My 1963 Vox AC30 back boost never sounds distorted like the one in the pedal, your putting too much drive on the sound and its distorting it, and turn up the treble a bit more, mid at 12 o'clock, bass at 11. then you'll get the real chime from it.
Dear Strymon: do one pedal per amp, the whole chip dedicated to one amp. Dual Rectifier, all 3 channels, all 8 modes, tube/silicon, spongy/bold. One chip dedicated to the whole amp, you'll be unstoppable. Gotta catch em all!
That really depends on how tolerant you are about the noises that guitars and their varying pickups can produce. Gain pedals raise the noise floor by default, so it would not be any different than plugging into the same amp with the same gain settings. I personally don't mind noise and do not use gates for it.
Luke Robinett a true free market capitalist! The more you make, for longer period of time, the cheaper it gets, is the maxim of market forces. Nothing American made is cheap, not that it should be, but big sky is ancient and things like Volante are new and cheaper.
Tobias Niederegger no not bad at all, but it’s at least 5 years old and Strymon refuse to release multi fx box. Why should I have to buy a reverb, delay, fx boxes just to stack a chorus and a tape delay over a shimmer reverb? That’s at least £900

Hey there! Please shoot an email to support@strymon.net and we'd be happy to assist.

Waiting for Pete Thorn's demo.
It's up on YT.
Can you get a 65 Blackface Fender Princeton Reverb sound ( straight to the P.A. ) if you did not want to Carry a Heavy amp to a gig ???
Iridium's round amp will get you a Deluxe Reverb sound - not exactly the same as a Princeton, but probably pretty close for most needs :)
That's just a direct sound with no amp? Sounds like the real deal.
Thank you! :)
@@strymon You guys did a great job on that pedal. The only problem I have is the $400 price tag. I can get a little Fender Champ tube amp for the same price and just mike it.
@@tortillaman2491 yeah but will it sound that good? Will it have Plexi and Vox sounds and 24bit/96 kHz, you can load many thir party IRs including bass amps and cabinets.an you do that on you Fender Champ?
@@savanaviolenta You can't compare a pedal with virtual cabs and virtual amps to an amp with real tubes, a real speaker, real tube saturation and real amp circuitry. The music industry is full of shit with their overpriced virtual gear. Like people who download a $100 "virtual console" for recording and now they think they've hit the big-time with a real Neve console.

Latency, input impedance?
Sound travels at about 1 foot per millisecond and the latency of Iridium is less than 1ms. Also, the input impedance is 1 Meg Ohm.
@@strymon Thanks
these sound great.. I have an iridium and am having trouble with it.. it sounds good in headphones but when I put it into an interface and then into a DAW (with all plugins turned off) it sounds terrible. What exactly are you all using to record these sounds to the video? There are not any videos showing what is going on between the iridium and my computer speakers.. please help
Hi Michael, can you send us an email at support@strymon.net and that way Gohan or Hugo can help troubleshoot what might be going on with your set up. Thanks!!
For 09:52 demo, do you On or Off the "cab filter" on Bigsky?
Off, as we use the cab sounds from Iridium :)
Nothing in real life is mono ;)
More importantly, the main benefit is that you can have stereo pedals in front of it and they won't get summed.
@@dickjonesify It only has a stereo out, not a stereo in.
@@nancreations but didn’t Mitch at Sweetwater say you could go in with stereo modulation?
@@nickw2704 Yes, but not with pedals infront, they will have to go after.
@@strymon Can you recommend a good brand full range flat speaker for playing at home?

@@samthorne488 it's those damn haunting mids, I tell you!
Do you use some noise reduction pedal?
No noise reduction was used here :)
Fender Toronado!!!
Nice
Dean Miller...knows his instrument. I'd kill to play like that
I thought it was a NUX 😝.....just kidding....it was great to see this product, ive been searching for the right amp and ir cab in a pedal enclosure for playing live....the already products out theres is not good enough for me, it still retain the high end sizzles for my taste...except for the two notes torpedo like cab m, it was good, but its digital and its hard to make a lil adjustment when playing
one question, beside for playing direct is this pedal can be use for playing in the front of the amp?? It would be great too if it can be a normal od pedal....
As Iridium has both amp and IR cab processing, you will not get the best results if you feed all that straight into another amp. But you can bypass the IR CABs and feed the amp modeling into the power amp input/effects return on an amplifier to use Iridium as your preamp.
strymon ooo ok...so it can bypass the ir...right...thnx for the fast reply, and ill see amd try iridium in my local music store when it arrived
Yes take my money please!
If I plug this into my recording interface, is there a way to hear what I’m recording without the latency? Thanks
Yes, but it depends on your audio interface..
Go stereo and put one side through the interface and one side through your amp, or use the direct monitor if your interface has one.
@@lordgraga What about using the headphone jack for this?
How does it take overdrive/distortion pedals?
Works great! There are some examples here and other Iridium videos from reviewer that had early access that use pedals in front of it to show how it handles them.
strymon awesome thanks for the reply !
Have you thought about making this into 3 smaller pedals? Could be fun!
How does it if you down tune to say D or B standard
We haven't tried ourselves, but should work just fine :) I'm sure there's demos out there of folks using it for more downtuned applications.
Get a HX Stomp, spend $200 more for way more versatility and options. No hate to Strymon but more power to the people.
itisthomas how do they do the same thing at all? The hx stomp is a multi effects pedal no? This is an amp and cab sim? What am i missing
Forrester Payne the stomp contains amp modeling and is the little brother to the LT and Floor. I believe you are thinking of HXFX.
Forrester Payne it’s a multi effects. It’s a little brother to the big Helix. You can still get a amp, cab sim and effects all in one. It’s definitely something to look into. Way more amp choices, Cabs and effects.
@@itisthomas i see. i guess i was thinking about the version with just the fx? i didnt know that there were 2 smaller versions. im curious how the amp modelling of each effect unit compare to each other now. i apologize for assuming incorrectly

how well does this device take pedals?
Hi Alan, Iridium is great with other pedals. We will work on hopefully posting some videos soon of Iridium with other Strymon pedals :) If you do want to ask about any specific pedal though feel free to reach out to us at support@strymon.net and let us know! Thanks
I’ve never seen software engineer could play like THAT.
Mas Iga kapan demoin niih mas
@@metalgotte belum tahu haha
Actually, software engineering and being a musician is an extremely common personality combination.
Using this with a pedal like TS9 do I will need a noise gate for high gain sounds?
That really depends on how tolerant you are about the noises that guitars and their varying pickups can produce. Gain pedals raise the noise floor by default, so it would not be any different than plugging into the same amp with the same gain settings. I personally don't mind noise and do not use gates for it.
Get the pedals down in price, so we can explore the range more. BigSky price fixed at £450, timeline etc £400. Where is the multi pedal?
Ain't coming pal. They know how to make their stuff.
Will this pedal work well if I have it last on my pedalboard and plug it into "power amp in" of my Hot Rod Deluxe amp?
Yes, but I would recommend using CAB BYPASS mode to defeat the IR cab modeling for this setup.
@@strymon Ah I see. Thank you.
