    Wow, thanks for the flashback. I delivered to Colonial 40 years ago. I see there are two tracks still there. They used to get full loads, and we would line the doors up side by side. Where the Engine came up first was the end of the line, so we would shove our train down there, pick up the empties, then tie onto the loads and set them . It took a while. The guys there would tell us if we were getting there when it's time for them end shift 'Don't do it till we get out of the lot'., because we would tie all the crossings up. For beer, it was worth it.

      Colonial was so busy back then getting rail shipments. I remember seeing some slides of a CR local running direct to Dartmouth with 20 or so beer cars. That was probably one of the last “hot shot” freights on the South Coast, or at least the closest thing to one.

      Why did they change from rail to truck? Seems like rail could give them more for their money.

    Well don’t get me started on the plow horse of transportation ‼️ I’m ecstatic to see this railroad come back to life. Unfortunately either 3 or 4 years ago the rebels told anyone who wanted beer deliveries by boxcar were told they had to purchase the box cars to get these kind of shipments. They do NOTHING to engender new business. All they want are unit trains and in all honesty don’t have the skill or customer service to provide such services. Good Luck 🍀 Guys I hope you’re traffic grows, rail is really a great way to move products.

    Its always great to see what happens with individual cars, once the mainliners set them them off. There wouldn't be any mainline trains without a one car delivery here and 4 cars there, etc, etc, etc.
    Thank you for posting this.

    Unfortunately to get shipments in there has to be shippers who load railcars. Hauled a lot of beer in the 80s and 90s. Every brewery loaded a lot of railcars and just about every distributor had a siding. Fewer breweries these days and I haven't been in one in a while that was still shipping by rail or even a dock to load railcars. They receive shipments of grain by rail, but that's it.

    • @cdavid8139
      @cdavid8139 2 года назад +1

      The main reason is that the days of the huge breweries have passed. New breweries have been built all over the US which in turn eliminates the need for long haul rail.

    • @cdavid8139
      @cdavid8139 2 года назад +1

      Depends on the product and the weight. Boxcars can carry between 75 or so tons and 110 tons depending on what type of car they are. So the 4 to 1 factor isn't far off. Of course cubic capacity is also a consideration in addition to weight.
