  • Assassin's Creed Origins' second expansion "The Curse of The Pharaohs" was released in early 2018, only a couple months after the Hidden Ones DLC. And it is pure insanity (but in the best way possible)...

    I love this DLC, the only critique is that you can only explore four tombs while sixty-two tombs in the Valley of the Kings should be explored.

    One of my favourite side quests in this DLC is Follower or Leader. It's in Heb Sed, and the character Setna who wants to be a scribe instead of warrior like his father. One of the moments between Bayek and him is when Bayek says "But you don't want to defy him. Even if that means oblivion. Perhaps I could be your champion." and Setna replies "And what would that make me? A coward? A failure.." And Bayek tells him "Smart. Such trials are not the only thing that makes a man. I would teach my son this." It's another great example of showing that after all the years since Khemu's death, Bayek still has that fatherly side to him.

    I really enjoyed Curse of the Pharaohs, and it's probably my favorite of the supernatural/otherworldly Assassin's Creed expansions that we've gotten since AC3. You can see a lot of its influence in The Fate of Atlantis in Odyssey and much of Valhalla as well.

    Played both Origins DLC's recently for the first time and it was a lot of fun. I'm not a huge fan of boss fights and so I needed some time to figure out how to beat them but at the end I managed it. "Curse of the Pharaohs" is pure fantasy, something I don't expect from an AC Game but the ancient Egypt setting is to fascinating to skip a second.

    Honestly I had the opposite experience with Tutankhamun, he was the only one I very nearly died on all the others I beat first try without a scratch, its all about reading their moves and waiting until they leave themselfs in a vulnerable state most notably after a combo much like Souls/Borne/Sekiro, but there was something about how Tutankhamun moved that I just could not get a handle on.

    For the bosses you would want to stay away as much as possible and use your arrows. Once the arrows are finished, you can use a weapon with a long range and high damage for example a scythe or heavy blades. I beat Nefertiti and Akhenaten easily, Rameses was a bit tough but the one that gave me the most difficult time was Tutankhamen. He has a long range weapon as well so make sure you use firebombs to weaken him up a bit once your arrows are finished.

    Ps: Seeing all this freakout over SW Outlaws gold edition price, I think many people don't know what a Ubisoft Season Pass means, and how much extra content it will contain, that makes it worth the price. You mentioned that you are going to start again playing Odyssey, and now I have to subscribe to see what comes next.
    Personally I genuinely like Odyssey, for me it is one of the best open world games of its generation. I know that a lot of hardcore Assassin's Creed fans hate it, and I see the point that it is not really an AC game, and it should be obvious it is not, the Peloponnesian wars were fought 400 years before the events in AC Origins. What I think Ubisoft tried to do was to expand the AC universe, to consider other events in history that would be influenced by the Isu, and the whole "The gods were astronauts" concept, which would be great to see.
    The mistake from Ubisoft side was obviously in naming it Assassin's Creed, it should be just "Odyssey". The game has its flaws, mainly in trying to be too much epic, and sometimes being repetitive in some of the side quests. But still I really like it, I started playing it during the beginning of the COVID pandemic, and being able to just explore what felt like an infinite world was really all I needed at that point, if anything I would like that it would include more RPG elements, like consuming food items and having to rest (RDR2 style).
    A couple of things that make the experience better, you must play with Kassandra, she is the canon main character, no other way about it. Avoid grinding, this is not really needed to progress the game, do the side quests marked in Yellow in the area, but never go to the "Misthios Board", those are the boring and repetitive side items, the compensation is only a bit more resources and XP, and.... You don't really need XP, the auto levelling in the game makes that there is no real advantage to do any grinding. Through the main story and crafted side quests (Yellow Marked) you will level enough to achieve everything at the right moment.
    The fantasy elements in Odyssey is another great point, many AC fans don't like those and I heard more than one say that this is not "historically accurate", but guess what? The existence of a Creed of Assassins is also not historical... The fantasy is well explained in the game lore, you should not really seek these missions until you are assigned them. At this point a reasonable explanation of their meaning is given. There are also a couple of side quests that have you see the fantasy side from the point of view of normal people.
    I really hope you take your time and enjoy Odyssey.

      We still get the modern day in Odyssey by having the first returning modern day protagonist since Desmond. Assassins racing Templars to an Isu macguffin is also nothing new for the series in the modern day or the Animus, and that’s a major plot beat in Odyssey’s Animus and modern day storylines (the Cult of Kosmos seeking control of the Leonidas bloodline, as well as the power Atlantis would give them). The modern day also brings in things from comics and novels, as well as having a modern day plot element to Fate of Atlantis including a boss fight against Otso Berg after he’s been built up over the story of the DLC.

      The issue with Odyssey is that it breaks lore and never justifies its existence.

    Amazing video man!!! I love this DLC so much. The story and characters were amazing. The afterlife maps were stunning and beautiful. The armor upgrades and weapons were amazing as well!! I really hope they make a sequel for Bayek. He really needs another game! Also the missions in this DLC where Bayek would be helping a stranger with something and then they disappeared and it was Bayek talking to himself at the end, that was really crazy seeing that for the first time. Even replaying it many times it’s super freaky. All around awesome DLC and we need more like this in Assassin’s Creed Mirage maybe. 😁😁😎😎💯💯💯🧡🧡🧡✨✨✨🏜️🏜️🏜️

    man, you people don't understand what the DLC was going for. it's not real, you get that, right? just like it's not real that everything the Egyptians believed in existed. this DLC is what represents their beliefs. Bayek isn't really travelling the afterlives, he believes he is because he couldn't explain it any other way and that's what we're seeing, an exaggeration of what he thinks is real but isn't. like when people thought ones with epilepsy were possessed by demons. the same thing happened with Valhalla. what Isu really looked like versus how the Vikings perceived them and we in game are seeing what the Vikings believed was happening in front of their eyes. that's why you can have mystical things in games because of what people thought was real which actually isn't and can enjoy something that otherwise wouldn't be possible in an AC game set in any other period.

    I hated this DLC honestly. I love Origins and I love the Hidden one DLC but I could not finish Curse of the Pharaohs for the life of me. Once the whole gods and divine realm shit started I completely lost interest. Assassins Creed with fantasy elements at the front stage doesn’t vibe with me. I’m cool with some sci-fi like in the older games but the new trilogy sci-fi is just too much for me personally

      I liked the DLC in isolation, but yeah this was when the series really jumped the shark into complete lunacy. A lot of people say that Origins is where AC changed as it was the first RPG style game, but it was really this DLC in particular that changed the games into what they are now. Though I guess technically the Tyranny of King Washington DLC did it first, but at least that was handwaved away as being purely simulation made by the Apple.

    • @TheFirstCurse1
      @TheFirstCurse1 4 месяца назад +3

      I'm the complete opposite. The series has always had sci-fi fantasy roots and they're now fully embracing it. The best parts of Origins and Odyssey were the mythological elements and enemies.
      Hell my favorite part of Odyssey was when I played through the Fate Of Atlantis DLCs.

    • @Hoppelite

      @@fakjbf3129 tyranny of king Washington was cool because it was like you said a simulation, and also it was so outlandish for the series that it stuck out. Now those fantasy elements are baked into the new games, so they aren’t as special when they show up.

    • @fakjbf3129
      @fakjbf3129 4 месяца назад

      @@Hoppelite I like having the outlandish parts as DLC. Going through the Egyptian, Greek and Norse mythology and afterlifes is really cool and I hope they continue doing so. But as you said it’s the fact that they are putting these elements in the base game that is my main contention. Keep the base game mostly realistic with a bit of sci-fantasy flavor and save the crazy stuff for DLCs.
