(Angel Dust)
(Angel Dust)
(Angel Dust)
(Angel Dust)
He was grooving
And that was when he could of sworn
The room was moving
But that was only in his mind
He was sailing
He never really seemed to notice
Vision failing
‘Cause that was all part of the high
Sweat was pouring
He couldn’t take it
The room was exploding
He might not make it
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, would you listen?
(Angel Dust)
Just, it just ain’t where it’s at
(Angel Dust)
You won’t remember what you’re missing
But down some dead-end streets
There ain’t no turning back
[Bridge: Julia Waters, Marti McCall, and Maxine Waters]
Dust
Dust
[Verse 2: Gil Scott-Heron with (Background Vocals by Julia Waters, Marti McCall, and Maxine Waters)]
They were standing
Everybody in a circle
The whole family
Listening to the preacher’s words
Sis was crying
She alone held the secrets
About his dying
Tears falling to earth
Maybe her fault
He was so trusting
God only knew why
They were dusting
(Angel Dust)
Please. Gonna be the death of you, children
(Angel Dust)
It just ain’t where it’s at
(Angel Dust)
You won’t remember what you’re missing
But down some dead-end streets
There ain’t no turning back, to back, to back, to back from
(Dust)
Believe me, sister
(Dust)
Don’t mean nobody no good no way
[Verse 3: Gil Scott-Heron with (Background Vocals by Julia Waters, Marti McCall, and Maxine Waters)]
Sweat was pouring
He couldn’t take it
The room was exploding
He might not make it
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, it’s hard to listen, but
(Angel Dust)
I ain’t trying to run your life
(Angel Dust)
Might just seem like one more good time
But down some dead-end streets
There ain’t no turning back
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, it’s hard to listen, but
(Angel Dust)
I ain’t trying to run your life, believe me
(Angel Dust)
Don’t mean nobody no good nowhere
And down some dead-end streets
There ain’t no turning back, to back, to back
Go away from
(Angel Dust)
Please, children, would you listen to me?
(Angel Dust)
I’m in fear, I ain’t trying to run your life, believe me
(Angel Dust)
Just don’t mean nobody no good
(Angel Dust)
Gil Scott-Heron was the Godfather of modern rap, a deep thinking cat that inspired a lot of people, myself included, with his powerful words and beats. RIP brother Gil.
That bass is just too smooth.
How can a bass sound like that?
It's a fretless bass
It was a trend at the time, to convert bass guitars into double-basses by ripping out the frets. That's why you hear the bass slipping around and has a smooth tone.
@@JumboZimmi that's amazing! appreciate your comment. These types of facts are unbelievable to us youngsters!
@@jazzfunknsoul happy to help ;)
The bomb....Gil Scott was way ahead of his time. Iconic genius.
That flute and guitar combination is a masterpiece
Imagine a Gil Scott/Jimi Hendrix collab...wow!!!!
Dinah Latham 💥💥💥💥💥
damn
Unreal
You speaking about something on another "Realm" That would be on other levels.
It would smoke my speakers
what a powerhouse of an artist, I saw him in the 70's he was performing at a college. my friend and I got to go back stage and talk with him and the group too cool. he even attended a party later on that night at Clark U. a lot of his songs were social consciousness raising so intelligent and smooth....may he rest in peace
Old school, new school, no school or preschool, everything Gil did was/is BADASS. The man was a giant, who's shoulders I did not stand upon. I dare not try. As I've said before, I stand in his shadow, in awe.
whose, not who's (= who is). Just sayin'...
I would have liked to have seen Prince and Gil Scott together peforming.
Wow! That would have been something...
Ohhh...HAYYYLE YEAH!...
We on the same thought processes I was just thinking how major that would have been.
Dang! This dude was a poet. Powerful artist that made powerful music.
Give some Bar give it up give it up
..."down some dead end streets there ain't no turning back...."....probably one of the best lines ever written in a song...Hope this song saves some lives out there.....it goes for any and all white or brown or yellow powders.....deadly drugs that kill .....the high ..is DEATH........
I remember the radio stations played the hell out of this when I was a kid. From Detroit...R I P Gill Scott Heron!
Give some Bars
Yes those were the days.
I feel like hoping in a 70`s era vehicle and cruising the blvd.
That bass.. And that voice! Love this man
No doubt about it. Gil Scott Heron was a genius. His words put to music were magical and mystical resonating with all of us who could hear. I would play "Pieces of A Man" all day. Wow! How prolific was the insight he provided into the experience of the Black Man living in America? Priceless simply priceless. We have lost a great spirit in the flesh but his contribution lives on through his art.
“Tears falling to earth”….
Part of the Alkebulan scripture reference of mankind’s creation.
Rest in paradise brotha Gil ✨
Stay away from drugs children especially this deadly drug you've just heard on this song called "Angel Dust" RIP Gil Scott-Heron.
Love this shit
R.I.P. Gill Scott
He wrote this song because his son was high on dust jumped out a window & broke his feet
Shay White you dont know the half of it i was so hooked up with that drug that the only way i got out was praying to the lord this drug is no joke seriously 😥🙏
PCP is a funny thing
So much soul. U feel the pain in lyrics
When I WATCH the GET DOWN, hear this song for some reason it makes me want to be a 70s baby even more! Especially hearing them background vocals "ANGEL DUST!"
Gil Scot Heron is very a handsome man. Really good song of truth.
Wasn't he though??? So handsome.
After Melvin Van Peebles, there was Gil Scott Heron, and he was incredible. Rap would not exist without them.
Man what an epic beat, timeless. That synth bass🔥
I swear to god bro!!!
One of the best songs ever. Soul never felt so enriched. A beer or two and a joint, there's no beating this guy. My friends think I'm nuts when I try and play this while we're chilling.
Have to remember the 70's. So real.
Angel dust was one of my favorite song as a young kid growing up thank you Unsung for the memory

Was having a discussion with my parents about drugs now vs drugs back in the day and my pops directed me to this song. I produce so I might give it a chop chop chop. 😎
If you do, post it to youtube and leave a link from this video! This would definately be a great song to sample, and I'd love to hear what it would sound like!

R.I.P. Gil Scott Heron
I cant tell if Delta Man or this is my favorite Gil Scott cut, but god damn this bassline is insane
Man I gotta to learn this bass line so funky
🔥🔥🔥
He wrote this song about his son who was high on dust & thought he could fly & jumped out a window
😱
Holy s**t. I had all his vinyl and I never knew that!! OMG! I lost my son last year but not because of drugs but just in general losing a son is just so hard. My son was 35
@@cindywuollet1 From what I was told his son didn't die he broke bones in his feet
@russellregan4736 I thought it happened to the son of actor Calvin Lockhart 🤫
Sometimes the blessing comes in saving others and not yourself. Like if you ever see a shrink, it never hurts to see one that has been through what you are going through.
78....high school days...rip gil scott heron
Angel dust angel dust made you feel as if you didn't have no feet and can't stop crying
rip snake and king rat from compton. old school. rip
I hum the bass every time
Be very clear scott, I love me some Gil Scott-Heron , there is no other like him, or his genius, his talent and ability to touch and resonate with us in the unique expression that was his only. My pint is this and remains thus, I hate what the American experience of being a black man living in America does to us. The stress of always having to be conscious of who you are where you are and what that all means is heavy and so I get why so many sensitive brother/sisters choose substances to cope.
Damn thats funky.First time i have heard it.Love it.
damn when he made this song he was definitely onto something 'cause damn this song is so good
In my opinion, thats just part of Gil Scott Heron's genuisnous. He shows that even a strong willed person such as himself can fall under the darkness of drugs, letting the world know that hes just a person the same as you. No man is above another, a crackhead is not a lower individual than a person making millions because in the end, they can still be influenced by the same things and no one is invincible.
I know this all too well, all too well. Oh, those days in the '70s. ...Like the groove, though.
I remember this one like it was made yesterday
Jackers - Down 4 Life :) bring me here

Yep Common is on it too
Kanye sampled Gil a few times. He did on Lost in the World and"the People" by common.
I hope they paid that man's estate for using his samples
