Gil Scott-Heron is one of the founding fathers of modern rap. His work with the Last Poets lives on forever.
Cmon bro. We been rapping (and like that) long before Scott-Heron. And let’s not reduce his art to a form of entertainment, as it’s known now.

Love this man. Everything he said is so true. This needs to be taught in every school. They intentionally leave the truth like always out of the history books as usual to suit them. We need more people like him with guts to speak out with the truth and not with lies. The truth is always swept under the carpet. They need to rewrite the history books with the truth about everything.

somebody went through
a hell of a lot of trouble
to make sure that when
we look things up

and we would come up with totally
unreliable pictures of ourselves

to see if we could find out
a little bit of something

First, white folks discovered Africa
They claimed it fare and square.

The men, the women
The young and the old
Righteous folks covered their eyes.
And no time was spent considering
the environment, hell no.
This just wasn’t civilized.
And another piece

People of Europe
These tribal units actually fought.
And yes, there was some
crude implements and
Yes there was primitive art
And yes there were
Masters of hunting and fishing
And courtesy came from the heart

But no paper, no pencils

And hell, these folks
never even heard of a gun.

Skin color is not an identity. It is the least important detail of human being. What really counts is who you are on the inside. If you decide that you are a victim, then that is who you will be on the outside. If you decide that you want to be Godly, than you will pick up your cross and follow Y'shua, and you will be more than a conqueror whether your skin is black, white, yellow, or whatever. Truth will set you free.
Sad to think we lost such poets and poetry. Empowering to realize it now rests collectively on all of us, not just a few enlightened souls, to carry the torch into the fearsome unknown.
